OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The first in a line of hybrid beam cannons produced by First United Astral Engineering, the FAE/SW-07 Hybrid Beam Cannon - Heavy, was the testbed of the entire series. Considered to be heavy weapon on a small craft and vehicle scale, relative to its class, the FAE/SW-07 is capable of projecting extreme amounts of raw firepower. However, the cannon's most significant feature is its versatility, being capable of utilizing five different firing modules. These include the cryogenic, ionic, solarized, maser, and finally, the "standard" particle beam module. This versatility gives the weapon an edge over its competitors and represents a logical advancement from First United Astral Engineering's previous designs, which were often one-dimensional. Unfortunately, the FAE/SW-07 comes with its own host of limitations and shortfalls. Naturally, heat management can be an issue. In addition, being a beam weapon, rather than one that fires condensed bolts, discharging the cannon is very likely to reveal the host vehicle's position. Nevertheless, the designers are cautiously optimistic that the FAE/SW-07 will pass the necessary trials and hopefully, prove to be an effective weapon in the field.

- Particle Beam - Considered to be the "standard" firing module, this module functions deals damage in much the same way as a laser cannon, though it should be noted that the beams have an explosive effect upon connecting with a target.
- Solarized Particle Beam - Capable of melting durasteel plating and setting targets alight, this module deals damage by superheating the target and ideally, incinerating them. It is also capable of bypassing conventional deflector shields.
- Ion Beam - Fires a beam of ionized particles that is effective against electronics and can feasibly overload shields. Often utilized when a target is needed alive, but might also be deployed to drain shields before finishing the target off via another firing module.
- Cryogenic Beam - Fires a beam of ultra-cold particles, frozen to temperatures far below absolute zero via force fields and electromagnetics in a process that mimics the Omega Frost effect, albeit significantly downscaled. These beams are capable of freezing and subsequently, shattering targets.
- Maser Beam - Fires a maser beam carrying a combination kinetic and laser energy, damaging targets through both.

- Compatible with FAE/C-02 Tractor Guidance Network
- Versatility - A hybrid ion/maser/particle/solar/cryogenic beam cannon, the FAE/SW-07 can be switched on the fly from one firing module to the other. A pilot or gunner might drain a target’s shields with the ion beam, before finishing it off with the particle beam module. Another tactic, especially with multiple cannons, is to set each of them on different modules. A clever gunner or pilot might set one cannon to the solar module and the other to the cryogenic module, which could result in the target shattering under fire, due to the violent shifts in temperature. Alternatively, the governing computer brain might select or recommend the best module for the situation, after analyzing a host of factors and conditions.
- Underwater Weapon - The FAE/SW-07 is capable of firing underwater.
- Solar Fury - The solarized particle beam module is capable of bypassing conventional deflector shields.
- High Power - The FAE/SW-07 is a hard-hitting, powerful weapon, its power quotient being at the very limit of what a cannon of its size and class can support, to the point where it might even be considered overkill when utilized against small craft and vehicles, albeit not to the degree of a turbolaser.
- Surged - EMP and Ion discharges with a large enough power quotient and a close enough proximity can overload the FAE/SW-07’s system, rendering it unable to fire for some time, especially if the host vehicle lacks adequate EMP/Ion countermeasures.
- Caloric Requirements - The FAE/SW-07 is a heavy weapon that is very demanding in terms of power requirements for most small craft and vehicles. As such, the FAE/SW-07 is generally only installed on host vehicles and craft with high firepower capabilities, with the exception of larger capital ships. where it is serviceable as a tertiary armament or anti-fighter weapon.
- Chain Reaction - In the event that the weapon sustains damage to the power systems or the Visium gas cell, a fantastic explosion will likely ensue that has a very high chance of outright crippling the host vehicle. While the FAE/SW-07 has safety systems that work to prevent total annihilation from such an event, in the heat of battle, even these measures can fail.
- Heat Management - In the heat of battle, the FAE/SW-07 needs to be kept cool. As such, a failure of its cooling systems will put the weapon out of commission for quite some time, in order to avoid catastrophic overheating. It should also be noted that the cryogenic beam module carries this risk as well, via the power systems.
- Follow the Line - The FAE/SW-07 fires steady, coherent beams, rather than condensed bolts. Given this characteristic, they are almost laughably easy to trace back to the source, meaning that firing the weapon is very likely to reveal the host vehicle’s position.
