- Formula Zero: Fast, agile, and powerful, the Datura is a high performing machine, fit for racing, both of a legal and illicit nature. Good acceleration, top speed, handling, and powerful brakes make the swoop a threat on any racetrack, from tight, winding circuits, expansive canyons, to fast ovals, though in all situations it demands a highly trained and capable rider to get the most out of it.
- Computer Virus: An exhaustive electronic warfare suite on the advanced variant of the Datura lends the swoop a degree of elusive offense, allowing it to discombobulate sensors, confuse scanners, and in general, create aggravating noise.
- Perforation: The field disruption system on the advanced variant allows the swoop to penetrate conventional shields, albeit at the cost of its combat shields for the duration of the system’s activation.
- Sky Dancer: Like most swoops, the Datura can ascend to very high altitudes, where its speed and maneuverability allows the machine to essentially draw circles around even the most agile interceptors, owing to its diminutive frame, which in accordance with the laws of physics lends it superior turning performance over larger and heavier craft.
- Weak Offense: Both variants of the Datura lack true offensive weaponry. As such, in combat riders must resort to using hand weaponry, which typically can not be too large or heavy, unless they are especially strong or augmented in some manner.
- Unarmored and Exposed: On both variants, the fairing of the Datura is unarmored. While the advanced model has a powerful shield system for protection, if it is depleted or disabled, the rider will be extremely vulnerable to nearly all manner of fire.
- Mechu-deru: An unspoken weakness of any complicated and advanced technology, the Datura is vulnerable to the dark sorceries of Mechu-deru and other technology corrupting powers. As such, a skilled practitioner of such arts can quickly disable the swoop, provided that they have a direct line of sight to the machine.
A fusion of starfighter and racing machine, the FAE/V-06 “Datura” Superswoop builds on technologies established in the Loralora to design a fast and agile multipurpose swoop fit for a wide range of clientele. In order to make the swoop affordable for the conventional market, two variants of the Datura were created. The FAE/cV-06 variant is the civilian model, incorporating various features to make it skylane legal, in addition to stripping expensive defensive and utility features, such as auditory dampeners, field disruptors, Ion/EMP defenses, combat shields, advanced sensors, electronic warfare packages, and other systems. As such, the FAE/cV-06 variant can be found in the lots of swoop and speeder dealerships across the galaxy, making them very accessible vehicles for the average civilian consumer.
In contrast, the FAE/aV-06 variant retains the aforementioned defensive and utility features, but can only be purchased by directly order from the manufacturer. While both models are highly sought after by swoop gangs and other criminal organizations, the advanced variant is doubly so, as its electronic warfare features and auditory dampeners make evading authorities a nigh-guarantee, if the rider does not crash. First United Astral Engineering does its due diligence in ensuring that this variant does not fall into the hands of illicit characters, but as with all vetting procedures, they are still quite fallible (OOC: Criminal PCs should feel free to request permission to use the advanced variant in the marketplace, with the understanding that ICly, they are usually illicitly obtained in some manner). While typically fielded by military and police organizations, the advanced variant is also used infrequently by racers for its defensive systems, as weapons may or may not be permitted in illegal Hutt or cartel racing leagues.
However, much like the earlier Nike, many prototype pilots have noted that the swoop is difficult to handle in racing, combat, and other demanding contexts. It is unstable under high speed braking and necessitates that the rider take an extreme lean angle in the direction of sharp turn to maximize cornering speed. Riding it is also a physically demanding activity, as the rider must shift their body along with the bike and reckon with strenuous G-forces, even with the inertial compensators set to high power. Furthermore, the Datura’s powerful turbo ion jet engine creates a perpetual risk of losing control as the swoop accelerates out of corners, which can only be minimized by a hypercompetent rider with experience handling the machine. The incorporated micro thrusters add another dimension of mastery to the swoop, which are just as likely to allow the bike to pull dazzling maneuvers as they are to result in a fiery crash, depending on the skill of the rider.
All of these factors ensure that the swoop demands not only a trained professional, but a consummate one, as well.
In response to feedback from test riders regarding the Datura's difficulty and danger, First United Astral Engineering added a performance governing system which dampens the swoop's power for inexperienced riders. Even so, many have opined that the swoop is an extreme danger to the public and should not have even been considered for civilian markets.
Nevertheless, the Datura superswoop is a product with high expectations from its designers, though it remains to be seen whether it will prove popular or effective in its given applications.
