Feedback on Boo Chiyo

So I realized, with some surprise, that I've made 500 posts on this character. More than that, actually, as I used to use my writer account to write this character. So, it's probably past due that I got some feedback on what's been my most prolific character at this site.

Back on my old site, Boo was NPC background noise who served as a literary foil for my main character and his story. Bringing him here as a PC, he's been a Sith, a Primeval agent and assassin, a student at [member="Jorus Merrill"]'s Levantine Astronautical Academy, and is currently a Jedi Guardian with the Silver Sanctum Coalition. All the while, I've tried to stay true to his being a child soldier who is still a young boy.

I often refer to him as being a Jonah or Damian Wayne rip-off, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Or maybe it is. Here's your opportunity to tell me what you think of the character, my writing, how I handle or portray him, etc.

He has the taint of [member="Coren Starchaser"] on him, so there can't be too many good things to say about him.

I would like to express a very deep admiration for your character.

From a first post, describing his enthusiasm for speeder bikes in such detail to more complex situations later on.
I havent RPd with you lately, but when I see [member="Boo Chiyo"] as a post writer I try to take the time to check it up.

My only complaint might be just that he seemed little troubled with the dark/light side of the force. He could be more colorful if going truly evil, or good and not stay in the middle for too long. But that us just a very personal oppinion.

Hope to see much more from you in the near future!

We need to write together some time...because I like the char a lot and keep liking all your posts. :D

Most of my knowledge of Boo comes from LS/SSC threads, but I love the character. He's had a very interesting journey, I like how the Primeval faith is worked into his character arc (and written as something you can see people believing in, especially given his background) and his progression to SSC has been very riveting to watch. Especially fond of his appearance in GA's recent Elrood dom.

Think you've definitely managed that! It's an interesting dichotomy that I believe you've expressed well.

Personally, I dig the fact that he cannot be categorised as stereotypically good or evil, but then I like moral complexity.

Seriously, thank you and I'm humbled by the kind words.

To address the compliant, I didn't want Boo's journey from the Sith/Primeval to the Jedi to be like flipping a light. No one has ever trained him in the Light Side of the Force. He wasn't a Jedi Padawan that was corrupted, his training was Sith from Day One. So he doesn't even think of it as the "Dark Side", to him that's what the Force is. The Light Side of the Force is the aberration, from his perspective.

So, I see the point and concern about him being in the middle. Right now I don't know that I see him as falling back to "evil," but it's been interesting letting the IC interactions and story carry him. I probably owe it to [member="Coren Starchaser"] for the fact that Boo's on TeamLightSide (even though he's a Darksider). Coren popped up a lot of good story hooks for the Levantine Academy that I was just in the right place at the right time to take advantage of.

The idea behind creating him originally, back when he was an NPC, was a character who did evil acts for good reasons. Like the Primeval, the story villain at the site I was at used religion as a literary vehicle for the antagonist. I never thought to expand on it, but when I came here (as BB-4001A) and discovered the Primeval, the opportunity to re-visit that core concept within an original, Star Wars-flavor religion was too tempting. For that, I have to thank Anja aj'Rou ([member="Boethiah"]), [member="Zambrano the Hutt"], and [member="Netherworld"], who allowed me creative freedom in which to flesh out the religion. Which, in turn, only made me want to bring that aspect of the character out more.

I also hope to have an opportunity to write with you :D

I love this character.

That being said, I don't think I've ever written with you personally, but I've been in threads with the character back when Keira was still Primeval. A shame they never got to interact. Your style when writing him is perfect, and it's interesting to see the balance between not-so-innocent child and the largely zealous and militaristic sides of him interact. You manage to blend what should be completely incongruous concepts perfectly and in a way that makes complete sense. I've always enjoyed reading your posts from day one.

It's a shame we've not had a chance to really write together, but I have an alt in the Silvers, so maybe they'll run into each other at some point.

He's just too blue. /obligatory sassy remark

Knowing where this character comes from, I have to say that it's been one of the more interesting characters I've seen developed from Bounce. Many periphery characters don't survive in the limelight for long, but this one has not only survived, but evolved. It's been a fun journey watching the character develop, much like a particular Kiwi character on another site written by Bounce.

Can't say much against him, other than in a sassy manner. Good character, good writer, badass stories.

Thank you. I always enjoy reading your posts. We almost crossed paths (with me on a different character) at Chazwa, but I hope we get an opportunity to thread together.

Love your character. We've had the pleasure of writing together under my redheaded alt. I find myself reading your posts when I'm not in the thread or looking for your (awesome) opinions over at the SSC. I hope you continue on the path set. I may be wrong but you have a childhood innocence mixed with the weight of adult concerns that I find enjoyable.

I'll certainly be reading and taking notes for my own characters.

I have to say that I have always enjoyed reading your posts. I really enjoyed your posts in Wayland. It was interesting to see the character's take on things, as it was very different from many. And to be honest, I am loving your take on the Mando story arc with [member="Tralik U'rik"]. You are doing a wonderful job there. Thank you for accepting that role :)

Thank you. We should definitely thread together and... wait... Ryker's 17 now?

I'm revoking your membership in the SSC elite 12 & Under Knight Division! :p

I definitely <3 Norah! I'd love to thread with her again.

You've hit on my favorite aspect of Boo though, which is the challenge to be true to the spirit of him as a child soldier.

Glad to know something positive came out of the Wayland experience! :D

Other than my name not being in a Report to an RPJ. That I know of. [member="Cira"], don't ban me >_<

Too bias to comment on any of your alts to be honest. I really like Boo and his levels of diversity in views on the galaxy. Even though he keeps running away from Coci! :(

But all your alts are exciting to read and watch as they develop through differing story arcs. :D

[member="Coci Heavenshield"] :)

He never knew his mother. He was "raised" by the streets until he stole/got snatched up by the male Sith Lord (notice he keeps being confused by Thurion because he expects Thurion to act like his master did, and doesn't understand why he doesn't?) So, he has reason to fear the Coci. She is a mother. And this is a creature of evil the likes of which he has never encountered and doesn't know how to handle.

For the same reason, though, I love our Boo and Coci interactions. However brief they may be before he Force Stealths the feth out of there at first opportunity.

[member="Boo Chiyo"]

Exactly and this is what makes Boo thick with the wonderful stuff of details and interesting character development. :D

You play the changes to your characters over a period of time, never done in one thread which is to be admired and applauded. All too often I see a 'change of heart' done in one thread which in 'reality' would take time.

You've always been one of the more creative writers, and not afraid to do things your own way when an opportunity arose.

That said, Boo Chiyo is definitely a character which exploits that mindset; he's always a great addition to any story whenever he showed up. Part of me misses seeing him with the Primeval, but I understand that characters need to go in directions that make sense for where you as the writer wish to see them go.

If there would be anything I'd like to see Boo do -- assuming he hasn't already since I haven't wrote with you in some time -- is explore more the uncomfortable boundaries of being a very devout character. Maybe explore cynicism, and how that affects Boo in the long run. That itself is why I loved writing Anja earlier on, because despite being a religious leader she was always questioning her faith as she walked its path. Whether that be a religious faith, or even the faith in your cause or relationships; it's always a fun concept to entertain.

Regardless, Boo is a great character and I look forward to writing with you again. :)

Thank you! And likewise, I hope to have an opportunity to write with you again.

I am enjoying being on the other side, and writing someone who believes in the Primeval faith but is in the midst of the Silver Jedi. It creates an interesting mix.

I mainly only aged him so that the store owners stopped asking if my Mommy or Daddy was paying for my items....... Its enough to drive a man to the dark side lol
That's what MIND TRICK is for man!

With that said, the queue had progressed to where the Pantoran now stood in front of a rather heavy-set Ortolan behind the ticket counter. Slapping a credit cube down on the counter, the boy slid the credits toward the man as he declared, "One chit for Murder Slasher 9, please!" Over head, the holographic advert for Murder Slasher 9: The Backstabbing was clearly marked as Restricted - Adults 18+ Only.

A stubby, dark blue digit flicked the credit cube back toward the boy. "Beat it, kid," the Ortolan snapped, motioning toward the robed Diathim as he mistook her for the next in line.

Catching the projectile credits, the Pantoran kept his hand raised as he palmed the small cube, extended out his index and middle finger, and moved his hand from left to right as he said, "I'm not a kid."

The manipulation of the Force, the plucking of the heartstrings that invisibly connected the youngling to the Force, and the Ortolan to the Force, and through the Force the Pantoran to the Ortolan, would be the same for both Sith and Jedi. The only difference was in the invocation of the Force itself. The aura around the blue skinned boy was cold. Lahi might have imagined the smell of blood, or felt a sliver of the fear, pain, anguish, or anger that had become nestled within a small boy left to perish beside a flowing river of human waste.

The Ortolan paused for a moment, looking down at the boy. Then repeated, "You're not a kid."

"I'm clearly eighteen with a glandular problem," the boy stated, with another arc of his hand.
