Open Threads. Often hailed as the starting point for any good RP career. Also known for getting your character ganked and spawn-killed by Bounty Hunters. Lol. So, love em' or hate em'. Erry'body has done an Open Thread.

But what's your opinion really? Give me some feedback on Open Threads in general. Thanks! :D

*This is not a Staff related thread*

I don't think I've ever participated in one. I'll check my content and see. But, I tend to stay away from them because like Braith said, the posting speed it far too fast for my liking. That and most have a general lack of organization.

Open Threads are fantastic for getting to know new people. I love them. Some of my favorite threads are from open threads that just took off. Some people rag on bar/club threads, but those will always be some of the best ways to introduce oneself to RP.

Don't know enough people to stick solely to private threads haha, even if I did, it's nice to see characters of varying backgrounds and different writing styles. Was a little surprised this was even a Poll.

Afraid I'm in the nope category here.

There's random, and then there's abandon thread. My open thread experiences have all been in "abandon thread" category.

Not doing that again.
I know good friends who love the Open Threads. But I have had this exact experience as above. So I avoid them like the plague.

I'd love to do more Open Threads to see other characters out there, as a character would daily without really planning anything, but more often than not I feel so disappointed that after a while they just...fade away to nothing.

It leaves me deflated, the story hanging and all characters simply up in the air and all the posting time feel like it was wasted with no clear outcome or end.

So, seldom to never for me, and it reduces me to Private most of the time.

I think it's important to differentiate between open role-plays and public role-plays. Those marked with the prefix "Public" means anyone can join at any time without having to announce their participation beforehand.

Open role-plays take into account Dominions, Invasions, Campaigns, Faction role-plays, etc. These are not "open" as in "everyone can join".

I simply can't keep up with the speed of threads when dozens of people are writing so I end up losing interest having to try and catch up on reading 20+ posts that have been made since my last one. It kills my desire to write.

Being unable to log on more than 2 or 3 days a week makes Open Threads problematic. Either I loose track of the thread or others loose interest waiting for my replies.

So, no. Open threads don't work for me. Private stories with a few writers who know and understand my limitations are best for me.

This character launched off of a public thread.

Seriously, everything this character came to be was because of one singularly awesome public thread. It was a springboard I've never experienced before. What was most satisfying however is that it had an actual conclusion, where all loose ends were closed up and packed away for next time. Then that thread, lead into a couple of private threads, an invasion thread, viola: psychopathic warlord of the west.

That however, is an extreme rarity.

I've been itching for another public thread for a long time to increase my pool of writers I know... unfortunately there is a scarcity of public threads these days, and I can't find one to join. Maybe it's because often times my characters are too well connected to politics, too well known for brutality, or have some pre-determined reason for absolutely not fitting in with the given situation.

I feel like public threads, are best when used with absolutely fresh characters and there is a definite directive of what sort of things to expect, rather than leaving open ended.

I do not participate in "public," threads. I have however participated in. "Open," threads. So far I've been able to focus on what my character and her team are doing, but I totally see how and why some people might lose interest with it. Will I ever participate in a thread that has been marked "public" ? No, probably not because that's just crazy pants to me. So far with the open threads that I have been in, they've been fairly organized (fairly).

I feel the open ones are great for exposure, and help get a character out there.

I also love private threads, because you can really get into your story then.

I mean sure you can do that with an open one too, but sometimes you get swept into a lost boat at sea, yo.

Started an open campaign thread to test the waters with how quickly I would need to react to posts.

So far I'm the only person who has posted to the thread.
That's largely been my experience with starting them. Takes a really potent hook to get people in.

I like open threads. Or I should say, I like the idea of them. Problem is, the days of being able to dig my heels in and argue for days on end when the shenanigans start are long gone. I don't particularly enjoy beating my head against the wall anymore.

Saw the notification, built up hopes; read notification, hopes dashed like a pinch of salt.
