- Kinetic Biotech: Nenuphar is a living organism prized for its ability to rapidly self-repair and for its flexibility. It can repair minor damage within thirty minutes, while more extensive damage may take hours or days to repair - but unless it is completely destroyed, deprived of fuel, or otherwise compromised, it can bounce back no matter how serious the damage is. When used as a building material for vehicles, the rate of injury or death in a collision is lowered substantially.
- Neural Interface: Though it can usually only be used by Shi'ido or by specially trained telepaths, the starfighter features a unique neural interface which can be used to directly operate the vessel. This greatly improves reaction times.
- To the Stars: Highly maneuverable and well-armed, the Fen'jin deftly darts through space, raining hellfire upon its targets.
- Disguise: Unusual for a starfighter, the Fen'jin has been equipped with a holographic shell projector, allowing it to visually appear to be any number of vessels. While it is usually used to pass the vessel off as a civilian shuttle or freighter before revealing its true nature, some enterprising pilots employ it to appear already battle-damaged in order to trick opponents into believing they will be easy pickings.
- Learning Curve: The neural interface requires skill and proper training to be able to pilot the Fen'jin effectively.
- Power Draw: Using the holographic shell to create a convincing façade draws a lot of power, and in practice typically the shields or the weapons have to be taken offline in order to provide enough power to effectively use it.
Taking some inspiration from their own biology, the Shi'ido designed the Fen'jin (named after the species of the same name) to be capable of mimicking the appearance of other vessels through the use of holographic projectors. This peculiar trick has become a staple of Shi'ido starships, who prioritize technology that allows them to deceive their enemies by blending in.
With the conquest of Lao-mon and the ongoing genocide against the Shi'ido, Fen'jin and other technology produced by the shapeshifters is becoming harder to find. Those seeking to preserve their culture, as well as those attracted to the collectible and novelty aspects of such craft, have been purchasing and procuring the few remaining vessels. Scavenged Fen'jin can also be found, though they may be missing certain unique parts that are difficult to replace.
