Final Battle with Xioquo

Come aboard the hype train!

It's been talked about for a while, and though there's no concrete date I feel it's time to get to the final battle with the Xioquo soon.

To recapitulate, the Xioquo are essentially drows. Their capital Underrealm is located far underground in the north of Tygara. They're enemies of the other Tygaran elf races (the Qadiri and the wood elf like Vashyada) and the Eldorai have fought several battles against them.

Their philosophy can be summed up as survival of the cruellest, they practice slavery (well, all Tygaran elves do, but the Xioquo are extremely sadistic about it), the dark arts and think blood sacrifices are the fun thing to do.

Tech-wise they're kind of a Steam Punk version of the early 20th century, so expect steam punk like tanks etc.! So while they're very inferior tech-wise, they still have punch. Moreover, they have war beasts such as massive kraken.

They also have strong Forcers capable of using dark powers similar to Sith magic (drain life, mind control, zombies etc.) in addition to elemental powers. Oh, and their goddess Mystra has woken up. She's pissed and good at summoning natural disasters. There may be a dark side nexus in their city.

So this is kind of an interest check to see who'd be interested in participating, along with gathering ideas. Basic plan is for a joint Firemane-Eldorai-Qadiri army to assault their capital, possibly aided by a slave revolt. It's intended to be a rather bloody battle.

This thread gives you a good idea of them, specifically the battle at the start and the one near the end of the thread. First features a failed attempt by the Qadiri (ancient Persian-like elves) to seize the Xioquo capital, second shows Firemane defending its base against a Xioquo counterattack.

Unleash Team Angelii!

Kaida gets to channel her Ice queen personality.

Sio'll obviously be there. Will fight Mystra. Maybe they can create a darkside nexus. I've missed dark Sio.

May have Tarissa show up, too. Jihad!

Specifically I will be bringing:
  • Tegaea to joint command Firemane forces, specifically the strategic aspect of leading from behind whilst Sio leads from the front.
  • Tempest to join the main attack.
  • Sahal to be part of the Qadiri army.
  • Aeda to command the Angelii.
  • Illyria to NPC the Xioquo.

Might have cameos from others too.

Preliminary plan:

  • Siobban: Going all Butcher of Roche on the Xioquo while commanding a Firemane force for the main attack. Is intended to duel Mystra. We'll see how it goes.
  • Kaida: Leading an Angelii unit into battle under Aeda's overall command. All Angelii PCs can join.
  • Tarissa: In command of Eldorai troops and 'advising' the Qadiri army.
  • Sumiko: If she shows up, she'll help counter the Xioquo's dark sorcery...with dark sorcery. Steal Xioquo magical items. Token Evil Teammte.

Less glorious romp, and more vicious guerrilla action through the Underealm.

To use a RL comparison, the Xioquo are like North Korea. Or Nazi Germany in 1944. This makes Mystra female Kim Il-sung with superpowers. Quoting this from [member="Valiens Nantaris"]:

'Not all of them are monsters, any more than ordinary people in horrible regimes are monsters.
The Xioquo are, as you know, ruled by a cabal of desperate, Dark Side using mages forced to give their people things to blame so they don’t turn their ire on them.

A Star Wars comparison I would use would be the various Empires, Sith or Galactic, all of which were led by despicable sorts, but not everyone in those states were.

If I was looking for a real world comparison, I would put the Xioquo in the realm of North Korea and its effect on the ordinary people. They don’t know that their country is an absurd basketcase, they really feel they are the best and luckiest people in the world because the lies have been repeated so often they’ve taken root.

Lia is special not because she’s the only ‘good’ Drow, but because she’s the only trained Light Side using Drow. Anyone else would have been slaughtered beforehand for non-compliance. She was sheltered by her birth long enough for it to take hold of her through outside influences no one else got.

So what the Xioquo face is a culture of propaganda, an invader to them who is attacking them for no reason, and fear of their institution.

Now, when the Xioquo leaders are cleared out, the people actually get food and there aren’t public executions every 10 minutes they’ll see the benefits. You’ll see the real character of them, and over time the influence of the Dark Side will pass. However…the Coalition is going to still seem like an alien invasion and many will fight simply out of fear or misinformation.

I hope that explains my perspective accurately. The Xioquo are not ‘evil’ inherently, but misguided, uneducated and desperate.'

1st through the 7th my father will be here to house hunt with me and my activity will drop accordingly. I may get a couple posts in, in a day but I can't make promises. We are trying really hard to get a house within that week. So I expect to be out and away from the computer a lot during that week and only around during the wee early mornings and late evenings. After that should be fine.

Talked with Valiens about setup now that we're all kinda back.

Threads gonna start with two concurrent scenes: War council meeting for the officers/leaders and the actual on ground preparations for the grunts.

That way no one's left out because they don't have the 'proper' rank, folks can make their intro, interact and make a plan. Then the attack will start.

We'll have to cross a big river to get to the Xioquo. Presumably there'll be fighting with their navy and krakens. Drows love tentacled monsters. Hmm. That came out the wrong way.

Their city is located deep beneath the mountains, so there'll be plenty of guerilla fighting down there. Things will proceed in stages from there. Folks can be split up in teams and given tasks so that everyone can post at their own pace.

Xioquo have roughly World War One technology, with some Steampunk fun thrown in, along with dark sorcery that's similar to Sith magicks and Sithspawn. And, of course, a living demigoddess.
