Fire-Chissed Beaches (Ember)

~ The Dirty Beach Bar and Grill, Chroma Zed ~​

Lorane Azure, Medical Doctor PhD, appeared to be drinking himself into a coma. Of course, appearances are deceiving in many cases. Just not in this one. The Chiss doctor was drinking himself into a coma and managing to keep watch on the door for newcomers. And there were many this late in the afternoon. The person who caught his attention the most, though, was a wild-eyed man who seemed to be hyperventilating. He was muttering to a companion rather loudly.​

"I swear, that madwoman with her fire. She offed Kash and Talv, not even joking. She waved her hand and fire came out. That's some hokey kriffing stuff, man... We've gotten in over our heads here on Zed. And who knows when that mad doctor will show up and shoot us new assholes? We gotta get outta here."​

Just as the man finished speaking, the doors of the bar flew open. Four very large Cathar walked in. Behind them came a very attractive woman. She glanced around the place a moment before her gaze came to rest on the now quivering man.​

​

"Ah! There you are. I was beginning to wonder where you'd ran off to. Kif?"​

​

The biggest Cathar walked over and picked the man up out of his seat by the back of his shirt, holding him out in midair. The bar fell silent as it watched everything play out. Ember slowly walked up to the now dangling man, her heels clicking loudly on the floor.​

​

"That's a good boy. You see, Sorus? Kif is a reliable man who follows orders and obeys my command. Maybe if you had been more like Kif, we wouldn't be having to make a scene right now."​

​

Sorus began to cry and shake, much like a scared puppy.​

​

"P-please! I promise I won't betray you again, I swear I won't!"​

Ember smiled, placing a finger on his lips.​

​

"Sssssh..... I know. You'll never betray me again."​

​

As she spoke, her eyes suddenly began to glow an ethereal yellow-orange. Her hand ignited with flame, and Sorus began screaming horribly. The smell of burned flesh began to fill the room as patrons stared in shock and fear. Then, as soon as it began, it was over.​

"Kif, be a dear and dispose of him. Corpses are very bad for business."​

​

As the Cathar exited, Ember and the other guards made their way to the large booth in the back of the room.​

The almost flirtatious flaming murder of the random criminal left Lorane a little bit dumbfounded. Not scared, per se, because he was quite skilled in the art of shooting people before they came up with strange or magical ways to kill him. Also because he was quite skilled in the art of "tactical movement" - that is, running the fuck away if some crazy space-magician was throwing bits of the landscape at him. But ,rather, a little bit surprised that somebody would just come to Gold Coast and kill somebody very publicly.​

The Chiss doctor walked over to the woman, who was now surrounded by a bunch of almost obscenely muscular Cathar. He remained standing, more than ready to possibly draw a gun, or even just one of his darts, and kill somebody if he needed to. You didn't stay alive here by not being able to suddenly put an attacker down hard.​

​

"It's very... considerate of you to clean up your mess, but it would have been more considerate to kill your runaway somewhere that's not Gold Coast. Or at least, not within a couple of miles of this particular establishment. Or mine."​

​

He fixed a rather cold glare on a guard that was looking him up and down as if to ask why such a man was talking to his employer.​

​

"You see, it makes it harder to be a doctor if you limit your practice to those who don't annoy certain groups. And your display, while well-executed and very neat, will either cause unneeded stress to my patients, or scare off prospective patients. I hate dealing with that."​
