FJ/RPJ/Admin specialties and competencies

I decided to take a page from [member="Ashin Varanin"] when she posted this earlier here.

So since we have a new batch of FJ's, figured we might as well toss in what areas we feel we are competent in.

This isn't a rule, but more of a resource since I know there are a few folks out here who are better in certain areas than others.

So if you have a question, still toss it up in the Factory Report Center, but also know you are more than able to get a second opinion from your fellow FJ's and Factory Admin [member="Spencer Jacobs"].

Please list your competencies and the Factory subforum to which they apply.

If it is in wookieepedia, I'm the first to go try and search something of canon first.

Strengths:
  • Banking, Finance, Business practices, Business Processes Management. (Companies and Market)
  • Military Ordnance: Depot and O-Level. Weapons, Bombs, Mines, etc (Tech)

Weaknesses:
  • Ships: They confuse me, but I'm working on improving.

Noah Corek

Cocked, Locked and a Smoking Barrel
Strengths:
  • Weapons and Ordnance: I'm training as a Smalls Arms and Munition Systems Specialists so I'm pretty adept at that.
  • Armor: I've always been obessessed with Middle Age armor and KOTOR armor and that has transferred over to the site
Weaknesses:
  • Ships: I can't make big ships, I'm pretty sure I could make small ships, but big ships are beyond me
  • ADHD: I don't really think this needs explaination, sometimes I rush and miss very obvious things in threads

Strengths
  • Guns, Melee Weapons, Artillery, and niche weaponry - This was essentially the first thing I learned about star wars growing up, all the various weaponry, how they worked, and so on.
  • Materials / Metals / Resources - If it is used to make something, I probably know what it is. This ranges from cloth-like material to heavy metals and all the way to various alloys and potential alloys. Also includes saber crystals and other miscellaneous resources.
  • Technology outside of weaponry/armor - At some point in the past I was on a path to become a software engineer, and though I switched to a different career path I still gained quite a bit of knowledge in that regard. Also have plenty of experience with hardware, and such.
  • Droids - I don't really know when, but I seem to have gained a lot of knowledge in this area over the years.
Weaknesses
  • Ships - I understand portions of them, but as a whole it is a bit more complex than I like, and I am not too familiar with various parts for them to make accurate decisions on some points; although I can make great judgement on the technology applied to it, just not the ship itself.
  • Armor - For some reason armor in Star Wars always puzzled me. The weights of the materials are apparently much lighter in armor than they are in a weapon counterpart (A phrik axe that is 1.52 meters is roughly 3-4 kg heavier than a suit of plated armor of the same material, for whatever reason - probably combinations of other metals to offset the weight, but rarely are they mentioned either in canon or in submissions). While I am capable of reading through and making decisions on them, those that are more complex prove to be a bit troubling.
  • Alchemy - I have absolutely no idea how Sith Alchemy works, and I've been trying to read up on it, but the vagueness of the articles makes it very confusing - I understand it is the alteration of matter through the force, but I don't know how it is done, nor do I know how difficult it is for certain tasks over others. I'll probably ask for help in this area most often. (This may be subject to change.)
Other
  • Vehicles - These are generally pretty simple to determine, but depending on the type of vehicle it can prove to be more or less difficult. It's more of a case-by-case thing, and generally it is pretty easy to figure them out.
  • Hacking tech - These are a bit harder to label as either a strength or weakness, as there is a variety of different types of this technology available which makes it a bit more difficult to keep track of.

Strengths:
  • Ships: I got ships well under control. As a huge star wars nerd, ships are my favorite part. I know so much on them.
  • Vehicles: Same with ships, I just really understand that sort of technology well
  • Droids: They're close enough to ships and vehicles when I see them I can typically judge them with ease
  • Armor: But for some reason I can't do weapons. . . . .

Weaknesses:
  • Force Items: I am no good with aspects of the force. . . . . .
  • Weapons: Aside from things like heavy artillery or special materials I don't get what's the use of submitting a faction specific gun except for the looks.

Popo

I'm Sexy and I Know It
Strengths:
  • I'm a huge gun nut. From concept to design, manufacture to performance, I know a great deal. Do I know how to make them myself? No, but I know the basics and after years of fiddling with guns in general and coming from a special forces family, I know a lot. What I don't know, I ask and research.
  • I love tanks. I have an entire library on tanks. I... don't think I need to go further lol
  • I can do armor and vehicles in general. I'm not the best at it, but, again, what I don't know I ask and research.
  • Beskar. I know it inside and out. I may miss or forget the occasional bit, but the basics I know by heart. Anything I'm not familiar with, I know folks I can ask.
  • I'm... kind of a jack of all trades in a way. I can do a couple of things really well, including ships and ship subs, but for the most part I'm pretty average outside my specialties. If in doubt, I do try and ask folks for advice and information.
Weaknesses:
  • AIs, hacking, and computer programming are not my forte. I can do it, but not well. If I end up with a sub for it, expect questions from my end.
  • Droids are not really my thing either. I can do it and do it okay, but, again, expect questions.
  • The Force is still hit and miss with me. I know quite a bit, but not nearly as much as most folks do. Again, expect questions on my end.
  • Super duper complex subs. Not really a weakness, but I'm methodical and with the more complex subs, I take my time to make sure I'm doing my job right. Even if its something I know well, I may be asking questions and looking for feedback.
  • Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays - These are the days I work and I often work 8am to around 12am or later EST. I can probably judge small things if I have time and answer/ask questions on skype, but nothing too major unless we get a large break.

Strengths:
Charm
Patience
Components, droids, armor. (Machinist in RL)
Personal, squad, and platoon weaponry. (I was paid to shoot people once upon a time. Military)

Weaknesses:

Everything in general

Rusty

Purveyor of Fine Weaponry
Strengths:
  • Firearms- I've been playing with guns since I was little. There's not much in the small arms world I haven't played with at some point, and if I've not shot it, chances are I know someone that has. Done a fair bit of amateur gunsmithing. Been more than a few months where rent was paid by fixing broken stuff. I know guns inside and out, and I mean that literally.
  • Bladesmithing- This is unfortunately one area where I demonstrably suck in real life. Hitting the same spot over and over with a hammer is simply beyond me. But my theoretical knowledge is excellent, owing to a deep masochistic streak.
  • Artillery- I've been an artilleryman for nearly a decade. My own specialty is rockets, but there's an awful lot of crosstraining with the tube side. Knowing arty is a point of professional pride.
  • Explosives- I was that kid in high school. You know, the one that came to school missing eyebrows and smelling like fertilizer and diesel fuel. My interest was purely recreational, just so we're clear. At any rate, my wife strongly disapproves of me doing anything that'll result in missing extremities these days, but I've kept up to date on the latest and greatest in making things go boom.
  • Star Wars tech- When it comes to Star Wars canon, my knowledge is best described as encyclopedic. This is the result of years of Star Wars RP, an excellent memory for useless information, and periods of profound boredom where trolling Wookieepedia was the only entertainment available. I've also read most of the post ABY Legends books, which says a lot about me and not much of it good.
Weaknesses
  • Alchemy, Art of the Small, other Force related stuff- I never had a character that could do it, and it wasn't really all that popular on JvS, so I never bothered with it. I know basic theory, but when it comes to Chaos and all the weird permutations that have popped up, I'm lost.
  • Ships- Shipbuilding on Chaos is a whole different animal from anything I'm familiar with. Still trying to get a handle on it.
  • Chaos Canon in general- There's a lot on here to take in. I've been on Chaos for a goodly bit now, but I still don't know as much as I'd like about the local tech. I expect this will rectify itself in the coming months, but until then, expect many questions related to how stuff works.
  • Nekos- No. Just...no.
