(Preview of the fleeting signup thread.)
Introduction
The Contingency has wreaked havoc across the galaxy, but now you know where they are located. In a remote system in the Rishi Maze you have found their home base and have mobilised your fleets to engage them.
Your objectives are simple; engage and destroy the Contingency Fleet. This will draw them away from where your operatives are moving in to strike the heart of the Contingency’s operations.
However, you also know that factions which are not your friends are also coming. Do you focus on the Contingency, or indulge in some opportunistic fighting?
The Thread
This Fleeting thread will be mainly fighting against NPCs controlled by myself. However, it is certainly possible to engage other factions and other writers.
This thread has limited rules, mainly concerning fleet selection & movement. How you choose to take damage to your ships is entirely up to you.
Victory criteria is simple: the total metres from ships you destroy is added up. For factions or companies this is added together.
Selection Rules
Any writer can signup for the fleeting thread. The only conditions are that you:
There are different selection limits and criteria depending on whether the writer is an individual or joining as part of a faction or company. Those are listed below:
Organisation Metres Per Writer Max Ship Size
Major Faction 10,000m Any allowed
Minor Faction 4,000m 1,000m
Individuals 500m 500m
Tier 6 Company 9,000m 2,000m
Tier 5 Company 6,000m 1,800m
Tier 4 Company 4,000m 1,400m
Tier 3 Company 3,000m 1,000m
Tier 2 Company 2,000m 800m
Tier 1 Company 500m 500m
Ship limits are calculated by adding the longest dimensions of ships together. Attack craft do not count if they start the battle in hangers.
Additionally, the production of ships limits how many can be selected per writer, as seen below.
Production Per Writer
Unique 1 Total
Semi-Unique 1
Limited 3
Minor 6
Mass 12
Only one unique of each ship can be present in total, since obviously there is only one of it.
All ships should be submitted and approved into the Factory to ensure balance. Ships approved pre-Factory 4.0 should have armament, defence, speed and manoeuvre ratings assigned to them to ensure maximum comprehension.
Thread Rules
There are no rules for taking damage. That is entirely in the hands of the writer.
As the commander of the NPC forces, I will be using a system to determine damage fairly and consistently, but that is not required for anyone else at all.
For consistency there are rules concerning movement. Your ships can move a number of hexes on the map correlating to their size and speed ratings.
Class Base Speed
Flagship 2
Battlecruiser 3
Destroyer 4
Cruiser 5
Frigate 6
Corvette 7
Attack Craft 8
Ships with a LOW or VERY LOW speed move one less than this. Ships with a HIGH or VERY HIGH speed move one more hex than this. Ships with EXTREME speed move two more hexes than this.
Thus, an extreme speed corvette moves 9 hexes per turn, a low speed Destroyer moves 3 hexes, and an extreme speed battlecruiser moves at 5 hexes.
There are no rules concerning turns, but absurd moves such as a slow battlecruiser turning 180 degrees in a turn will be nixed. Common sense prevails in these cases.
As GM, this writer reserves the right to ask writers to re-examine and fix clearly overpowered or unfair resolutions, such as taking no damage from a full volley of a Star Destroyer as a low defence cruiser.

Any writer can signup for the fleeting thread. The only conditions are that you:
- Cannot use more than one character in the thread.
- The character cannot be used in any other of the four main event threads. They are all happening simultaneously in the story, so your character cannot be in more than one place.
