Phyla was excited to get home.

She had been away for a good year now, spending her days with the Exploration Corps out in the expanse of the Unknown Regions. Now she had been informed that she was coming back to a new addition to her family. Jasper had taken on a padawan whilst she had been away, one whom he'd end up adopting. The idea of having a little brother interested her greatly. Would it be strange? She was somewhat used to the concept of familiarity from being created in a cluster of other Shards, whom were in essence her kin. Not that she knew them for long given her premature departure from Orax.

They'd probably be very different, she reasoned. Maybe that would be okay? Well, it would at the very least be a challenge to bridge the gap of interest and find some common ground. All in due time.

Her Epo-1 set down on the landing pad and hopped out of the starship, her movement floaty from the mixture of her telekinetics and integrated repulsor tech. She drifted over to the front door with a mindfulness about her, choosing to knock rather than unlocking the door.

Marissa Shoda Marissa Shoda was easily startled. If she was home Phy didn't want to give her a panic attack.

Braze wiped his hands on the apron he wore, stepping toward the door after finishing up in the kitchen. He had just completed a batch of rock candy—a simple welcome-home gift he'd prepared. The process had taken time and made a bit of a mess, but it felt worth the effort.

When he opened the door, his jade green eyes landed on the figure outside. He recognized her immediately—Jasper had mentioned her before, using 'she' when speaking about her. His gaze shifted briefly to the gem embedded in her chest, squinting in curiosity before settling on her photoreceptor eyes.

With a playful smirk, Braze leaned casually against the doorframe. "No soliciting," he teased, his tone light, though there was clear interest in meeting this new addition to the family.

"No soliciting,"

Oh. That was a joke, right? A slight smile appeared on Phy's face.

"Solicitor's up here?" she remarked lightly. "I think I would be impressed if someone took the gondola up here. That's a four hour wait."

Phyla's feet touched the ground enough for her to give a proper bow to greet Braze.

"I'm Phyla, but I go by Phy," the shard stated before lifting off the ground again. As she drifted through the front door and assessed the state of the home she turned back to the Echani. "Braze, correct? Jasper told me a fair deal about you when I informed him of my return. It's very nice to meet you."

The girl floated up into the kitchen, perching herself on top of the fridge and peering down at counter proper, examining something that seemed to have been recently prepared. Her eyes danced around various crystalline formations before she spoke again.

"Oh. Have you been cooking?"

She made mental note of the apron. That was likely a sign of such.

Braze chuckled softly, loosening the apron and folding it with a practiced hand. "Yeah, that was a joke. But still, I wouldn't trust anyone desperate enough to take a four-hour gondola ride just to sell snake oil," he quipped, glancing over at her with a playful grin.

As Phyla floated into the kitchen, Braze followed, still marveling a bit at how gracefully she moved. "Actually, yes... I've been making something for you. It's called 'Rock' candy," he said simply, nodding toward the crystalline formations on the counter. "It's not much, but I figured it'd make a nice welcome-home gift. Would you like to see it?"

He leaned against the doorframe of the kitchen, his jade green eyes bright with curiosity. "And yeah, Braze is correct. Glad Jasper didn't leave you guessing Phy~."

"Rock candy..."

Phy drifted down from her perch, plucking up a crystal and examining it closely, holding it up to the light. Her feeling receptors gave it a texture that she could feel, but the clear sensation of taste very much alluded her.

"They're very pretty," Phy observed, "But unfortunately I don't believe I can do more than watch. I'm not capable of enjoying the organic pallet. They'd make for a good bird feeder though. There are lovely singing birds that nest in the cliffs nearby. I believe they subsist on sugar. They'd be quite beautiful in the evening light I imagine. Have you seen them yet?"

A use, even if she could not enjoy them herself. Phyla turned to Braze, examining him for a moment further. He was young, but how young she wasn't sure. Organics were tricky. A good deal of marks suggested combat experience, so similar to Jasper in that regard no doubt. The gentle smile returned to her face as he brought up Jasper.

"He is rather airheaded," she noted. "I was very excited to receive the news though. I've not really had a sibling, so to say. I've been very curious about what such a thing might be like."

"Oh, well... I'm excited too. I have someone who's... kind of like a sibling, but not exactly," Braze said, his tone casual but thoughtful. "I think he's more like a half-sibling technically, but that sounds kind of weird..."

He paused briefly, shifting gears when Phy mentioned the birds. "And no, I haven't seen any birds like that. But, uh... those aren't for you," he added with a playful smirk, moving over to a large soup pot.

Braze carefully popped off the lid, revealing more rock candy inside. He reached in, gently pulling out the strings and chains they were attached to, and offered them to her with a hint of pride. "These ones are for you." He said showing her the necklace he had crafted. "At least I think Girl's like jewelry... "

"These ones are for you." He said showing her the necklace he had crafted. "At least I think Girl's like jewelry... "

"Oh!"

Phy's synthetic eyes widened as she took the necklace into her hand, running her finger along the sugary crystal. They were magnificent, composed of colors she had never quite seen before in as simplistic a formation as rock candy. How had he even achieved such a thing? It suggested a mind for science and engineering, but more importantly a common ground to stand on.

Her smile widened just a little more.

"I'm not sure if being a girl correlates to liking jewelry," Phy stated, "But these are quite lovely. And well cut too. You'd think they were proper gemstones at a glance. Thank you."

Phyla tilted her head, resting her finger on her chin.

"I'll have to build a refrigerated display case for them to maintain their quality," she mused. "It would be a shame if they melted."

Something else to add to her new home-construction project.

"Oh, I'm glad you like them. Do you have anything you want to unpack? Or would you rather show me where the feeders are, and we can get rid of some of this extra candy? I'm not sure if Jasper or Marissa would want this much sugar just lying around," Braze asked curiously. He wasn't sure where she would stay. Truth be told, he didn't fully understand Aether most of the time. The humanoid face she had was much easier to talk to than Aether's robotic, temple-guard-like mask.

"I've got nothing to move at the moment," Phyla noted. "Here, let me show you where I put the feeders."

Phy drifted off the ground and floated her way through the Kai'el home, bringing Braze to a balcony on the backside of the structure. There a hanging box with a slanted roof and walls composed of woven wire hung, empty. The shard would open a hatch on the top, within which rock candy could be deposited.

"This is a very relaxing location," she mused. "I would come here to write stories whenever I was overcome with inspiration. Not that any wound up going anywhere."

Her gaze drifted back to Braze.

"You're welcome to use it if you like."

He grabbed a bowl of rock candy and followed after her. Braze leaned against the balcony railing, glancing at the feeder before his gaze returned to the view beyond.

"Thanks, Phy. Peaceful spots like this are rare for me." He paused, as if considering her offer. "Might just take you up on that, though I can't promise anything as grand as your stories... I've tried my hand at poetry and song writing... I even gave some one I have a crush on a cute little card with a poem on it... I"m not certain they like me that way though... It's really confusing. "

Braze moved to fill the feeders with rock candy. " I can't wait to see what kinda pretty birds come to take a nibble. "

Phy let out a melodic chuckle, as she leaned against the balcony.

"Organic biology is confusing, isn't it," she mused. Before long, however, her eyes drifted a little. "Ah, here they are."

A pair of little birds fluttered up to the feeder, perching on it and letting out a shared harmonic chirp before pecking at the candy within. Their bodies were a striking green, with a more muted peach-toned face and beak. Phy withdrew a pad of paper from a box on the balcony, floating up to a higher vantage point before beginning to sketch.

"These ones are a pair," she stated in a hushed tone as she drew. "The female's biometrics indicate she's laid eggs recently. That means there will be little birds flying around in a month or so."

The shard rested her pen against her synthetic lip for a moment.

"This is a new pair," Phy noted, almost as if to herself. "I've not seen these birds yet."

"Ah well... what are they called? Do they have names or... do you just note down which ones are which with numbers?" Braze asked curiously.

He watched her sketch but he couldn't quite see what she was drawing from his vantage point. " Is this what you do for fun?" He added belatedly taking note of how she seemed to know where the sketch pad was.
