The Past
Silence.
The dark void of space.
For a moment, peace.
Then Flicker opened her eyes.
She floated through the void, looking around. Where was she? She pushed herself up, seeing her hands. Darkness. Little wisps of energy. She checked her legs-- the same. That's when she realized-- she could breathe in space. Or rather, she didn't need to breathe.
Flicker was dead. That was for certain.
She wailed, scratching at her face, arms, desperate to feel something, anything, to wake up from this nightmare and go back to her bed. But the more she screamed, cried, howled... there was nothing. No waking up. This wasn't a dream.
As she tried to think, to desperately cling to anything from life, she realized she knew... nothing. Who she was, where she was from, anything from before her death. The more she thought, she realized she didn't even remember her death. Loss. Despair. Fury. It all crashed over her like raging waves, leaving her just... floating.
