That's what he'd said in his message two days ago. Mm. She still didn't know what it meant. Yet.
Madison Isle stood outside a movie theater in a busy neon shopping district of the Upper City. She'd just come out from watching a suspense thriller holo and was still feeling the buzz from watching the credits roll. Alas. It was the middle of the afternoon and lunch hour was still keeping the local cafe's busy. I suppose this was how she'd been keeping herself busy too. Wasting time. Watching movies in the middle of the day. Mm. Classy.
Anyway. She could probably use a bite to eat. And? She considered suddenly. Maybe he could too. So she pulled out her phone and finally dialed the number she'd been trying to forget for days. Connel's number.
~ Uh hey. This is Madison. You free for another chat? I'm downtown and feeling kinda munchy. How about lunch. My treat. Text me. We'll do something. ~
She sent the text. Almost smiling. Still thinking about the movie. Then she stopped near the busy street and took another big, deep breath.
Deep breath girl. Deep breath.
"Well. Here goes nothing."
...
She'd picked a diner in the middle of the shopping district. Older and well used. It was old fashioned and less busy than the other Big Brand Names across the street. The menu seemed older too. She wasn't sure yet if that was a good thing or not. Still. She was hopeful.
She'd been waiting for a bit and had already ordered dessert first. Just something to keep her company. He probably wouldn't come anyway. Not after their first chat. Jedi Knights don't have time for princesses and 'antics', after all. Bigger fish to fry, and all that. Got to keep the galaxy clear of the riff-raff and all that. Jedi stuff.
She took another bite of her peach cobbler and stared out the window into sky traffic. Bah. This wasting time thing was still a waste of time. She needed more to do. Mmmm? Maybe hot yoga? Cold yoga? Echani yoga? Bah.
"Nah. I hate Echani Yoga. Ugh."
No. Maybe she'd just skip town. Tell Mal to suck it and keep the money. Something wild like that. Something crazy.
"Mm. Kark! And damn me? This is good pie. Mm."
No. Pie be damned. She'd made up her mind. She could do this! Screw the Jedi. She could handle a little magic training! She could be a Jedi too! Hmph.
Still buzzing from a good holo scene, Madison Isle sat in a busy lunch-hour diner in the middle of the Upper City. Praying to God that Connel didn't have the stomach to show up. And make her eat those words.
