Footprints in the Snow; Exploration of SE-2

The primary purpose of this thread is to assist in the exploration of SE-2 in Companion Esk and provide an open thread for them to do so in. Play together or separately but have fun!

----------------------

...the AP-237 Light Freighter had come into orbit around the planet designated SE-2. Rumors had spread quickly of hyperlanes leading to a companion galaxy known as Companion Esk which orbit the main galaxy. Because of these rumors traffic to these galaxies and through the new hyperlanes had increased however due to the fact that only small starships could travel to Companion Esk it limited the exposure to a degree. Numerous governments had been sending representatives when possible however it appeared as though most of those individuals traveling here were explorers...

...Naimes ahn Dross had come as a representative of the Mandalorian Clans seeking to make contact with the inhabitants of Companion Esk and, possibly, even introduce them to the Mandalorian culture. It was never ill advised to spread the faith when possible. He'd been accompanied by a duo of Mandalorians making them a trio on the Light Freighter which had come out of hyperspace and moved into orbit around SE-2. Initial scans were being completed so that Naimes and the others could identify as much as possible with concerns to the local environment and the atmosphere of the planet. Air was breathable which was a bonus...

...over and above it could be discerned that the atmosphere of the planet was cold though several structures were identified by the droids also working with the computers of the Light Freighter. Once he was satisfied Naimes would have turned to the Mandalorians that had accompanied him, offered a nod of the head and state...
"Right. Lets prep for atmospheric insertion. Take us down."...then he'd find a seat and strap in while one of the other Mandalorians took his place in the pilots chair...

...within moments the AP-237 Light Freighter was descending towards the atmosphere of planet SE-2...

...when it hit the atmosphere the Light Freighter erupted into a shower of spark and eventually became blanketed in fire that washed across its outer hull as it came down for atmospheric insertion into planet SE-2 from orbit. As it came through the atmospheric chop and stabilized Naimes would have looked out of the cockpit window and reached up to clap the Mandalorian who'd been flying the starship on the shoulder..."Well done."...his voice calm and calculated as he offered a bit of praise..."Now find an area for us to land. Do a few passes so we can make sure we have a good area."...then he'd sit back in his chair and take a datapad from nearby so that he could take a moment to study the information he had...

...the AP-237 Light Freighter zoomed through the skies of SE-2 and descended lower so that appropriate assessment of the ground could be made. Almost instantly suspicions that SE-2 was a cold planet were confirmed when after dropping beneath cloud cover a sea of white await below. The surface of the planet appeared to be blanketed in snow which offered little in the way of vegetation to the untrained eye. Oceans may have also been frozen over if there were any. Settlements were crude and barbaric by the galactic standard; Naimes assumed after only doing one pass over a village they had discovered that the inhabitants of SE-2 were not even capable of rudiment power sources...

...with all the information at his disposal Naimes had an idea of how to approach the situation and he would have stated to the pilot...
"Set down near the last village we passed over. It's time we introduced ourselves to the natives."...then he would unstrap from the chair where he was seated, make his way to his feet and move back into the hold of the Light Freighter so that he could prepare to disembark. The Light Freighter would turn, make another pass over the village and then come around to stabilize and set down in a snow covered field where it remained as a loading ramp descended...

...Naimes had changed into his Aliit'gam -Clan Skin- Armor and carried his M-12 -Kath Hound- Shotgun with him as well as a Fett Kal Trench-knife. After the loading ramp had lowered he would begin to descend before standing at the bottom of the ramp and accessing comms...
"Keep sharp and stay with the ship for now. These people aren't our enemies yet."...he could see torches lighting in the nearby village and was certain the inhabitants were coming to meet him. He wasn't sure what their reaction would be to him, especially in his armor but Naimes had a lot to offer these people if they could come to a common ground...

...the torches in the distance became brighter as the men holding them moved closer to the Light Freighter that had landed after instructing the other two Mandalorians he'd made the voyage with to remain onboard the vessel Naimes moved to meet them. In his Aliit'gam Armor and carrying his -Kath Hound- Shotgun Naimes realized how alien he would likely look to these people as he drew closer to them and the light of the torches burned brighter through the heavy snowfall coming down across the tundra...

...when he'd moved closer, covering a distance that brought him into shouting range of the villagers who'd approached him he'd shout...
"Greetings, I am Naimes ahn-Dross of the Mandalorians."...he used galactic common as he believed it may have been the easiet for these men to understand but they looked at him as though he were talking gibberish causing Naimes to take a moment to consider how to proceed. Looking at them the Soldier would have noticed just then the men he was speaking to were dressed in furs and adorned with bone trinkets and jewelry, they'd brought spears with them and other crude tools and the torches they held were primitive impliments. Obviously this world was extremely low developmentally and patience would need to be maintained...

...after awhile one of the man, a leader who looked human, would step forward and start to speak but Naimes could only respond...
"I don't understand."...while an unamused expression fell across his features. Kneeling down he'd notice the men were quick to raise spears defensively however Naimes kept his cool and extended his hand to the snow covered ground. If they couldn't communicate with words perhaps there was another way...

...using his finger Naimes would attempt to draw a crude looking picture over the snow covered ground which lured the man who had come forward in causing him to take a look at what Naimes was attempting to draw and the message it would convey. Looking up Naimes couldn't tell if the man understood what he was doing however eventually the man came forward, hesitantly and crouched down with Naimes before drawing his own message in the snow and then gesturing with an arm. Apparently he wanted the Mandalorian to come with him...

...nodding his head Naimes agreed before slowly rising to his feet while using his comms to contact the others of the ship...
"En route to local village. Will keep informed of the situation."...then his comms went silent and Naimes move forward with the men who had come out to meet him and were now taking him back to their village...

...the trek across the snow covered tundra wasn't difficult. Accompanied by the villagers that had come to meet him Naimes felt reasonably secure. Even if they became hostile his equipment and martial prowess should be enough to overpower them easily but that wasn't the intent of the Soldier with concerns to this meeting. On the journey across the tundra Naimes made one look back at his ship so that he could see how far in the distance it was while he drew closer to the local village that men had come from; the Light Freighter looked small in the distance. Eyes turned front again as he moved through the snow and kept his -Kath Hound- Shotgun in a relaxed but ready position with the butt resting close to his right hip and the barrel angled downwards...

...the Village would start to look larger the closer that Naimes moved towards it. Using enhanced optics provided to him via the helm he wore he'd zoom in on the village during his advance and make initial assessments of it. Dwellings appeared to be made primarily of hide drawn over bones or wood to create insulation from the elements with some having open tops that smoke was billowing out of indicating fires burnt inside for warmth. Nothing he saw looked particularly advanced until he noticed something that appeared as though it might be durasteel paneling from a starship but that was to advanced for these people. It was completely possible that he was not the first one to visit this planet...

...
"Approaching the village. Inhabitants appear primitive. No sign of advanced weaponry or armor."...he'd omitted the durasteel paneling he'd seen until he could learn more about it though even that was not an indication of technological advancement. Moving into the village Naimes was met by other individuals dressed in furs and primitive garb who shared words with the men accompanying him however he was unable to decipher what they were saying. After a short pause the man Naimes had originally communicated with briefly directed him to follow and they moved further into the village towards a particular dwelling...

...the flap to the dwelling opened and a man, dressed in only a loin cloth and some bone trinkets stepped out into the cold seemingly unbothered by it before gesturing for Naimes to come into the dwelling with him. The Mandalorain hesitated briefly but curiosity got the better of him and an odd wave of calm struck him as though he knew he was welcome here and that he was not being lured into a trap. It was the strangest sensation. Nodding his head Naimes moved forward and disappeared inside the dwelling, the man following him, before the flap came down behind them...

...the dwelling that Naimes had disappeared into was well lit inside by a fire that burned, crackled and smoldered with a dull heat that radiated throughout the interior with smoke allowed to escape via a hole in the top. Animal hides made the walls of the dwelling and were bound to crude poles to keep everything secure and stable while insulating the inside from the outside elements and snowfall that seemed to continuously blanket the world. Upon entering Naimes would look back as the flap covering the entrance was closed and the man who had invited him inside circled around to sit at the opposite end of the fire where he'd sit before the Mandalorian did likewise...

...reaching up Naimes removed the helmet of his Aliit'gam and the two men looked across at one another. No words were exchanged for a time. Neither man knew the language of the other but there was an aura about the man that Naimes was sitting across from and slowly turning his head he'd look at the walls of the dwelling and start to make out the different pictograms inscribed across them. The pictograms told a story and the story told a history of these people and the planet that the Mandalorian had come to explore and there was something else...

...there subtle impressions that radiated off the man and touched Naimes as though directing him where to look and how to interpret the story that he was reading and eventually it caused the Mandalorian to realize...
"You're a force user."...the man sitting across from him didn't speak but the expression on his features seemed to indicate that he understood the Mandalorian perfectly well. He was a Shaman. The Shaman of this village. Nodding his head as though he better understood now Naimes turned his head back towards the pictograms lining the inside walls of the dwelling, the hides and started to drink them all in...

...the story implied that these people were mostly hunters and gatherers trying to survive here in the snow covered planet but that they were likewise forced to compete with other tribes in the area. The pictograms also depicted an enormous tower which Naimes realized was a starship that had crashed generations ago. Perhaps this was how these people had come to the planet to begin with. It was not the longest history but it was relatively thorough and left Naimes with a better understanding of things...

...
"We might be able to help one another."...he'd have remarked while meeting the gaze of the Shaman before he signaled his ship via comms..."Lock in on my hud for the coordinates of the village and proceed on foot. Bring some equipment."...then his attention returned to the man across from him again, he was staring through the fire as its flames licked up and the Shaman seemed receptive and curious of what the Mandalorian would propose...

...their conversation was one side, Naimes talked while the Shaman listened and used general impressions amplified by his understanding of the force to communicate in return, however it seemed that both men were able to interpret what the other was saying reasonably well. Naimes had understood the storyof this village as the Shaman had directed him and now he, in turn, took the time to tell the Shaman of the Mandalorian culture that he was a part of hoping that two of them could maintain an understanding. An understanding that only extends to Stone Age technology could make talking about the technology that the Mandalorians possessed a tad more difficult but he thought he could at least instill the idea of the culture on the Shaman...

...Naimes told the Shaman about the Aliit, the Clans and he talked about the Mandalorian Resoln'are, the six tenaets, and how they governed the Mandalorian culture. Education, Armor, Defense, Family, Language and the Sole Ruler. Ba'jur, Beskar'gam, Ara'nov, Aliit, Mando'a and Mand'alor in the Mandalorian tongue. It was sharing of ideas and of culture and Naimes would finish his conversation by adding...
"Our men train their sons to be strong and their daughters to be stronger."...which anyone in a tight family unit could appreciate however the conversation would come to an abrupt end when Naimes heard a voice come over his comms...

...
"My comrades have arrived."...he'd have told the Shaman openly before rising from the fire and turning to leave the dwelling..."Please come with me. I have something I think you and those of your tribe might find useful."...then he would lead the Shaman out of the dwelling, pressing the hide flap back to let in the dim light of the snow covered planet as he moved outside once more. Outside the other two Mandalorians had come into the village greeted by several men armed with spears and crude bows however there seemed to be no hostile intent present for the time being...

...approaching the others Naimes would explain the situation to the both of them before adding...
"These men are no threat to us however with some effort in teaching them the Resoln'are and of the galaxy at large we may spread Mando'a further."...it was a simple idea that the others seemed to agree with and turning back to the other Naimes hoped they could come to a mutual understanding and helpful relationship...

Naast'ika Laaran dipped into the chilly atmosphere of SE2. His body was accustomed to the deep cold of space, to the temperature of SE2's atmosphere was no danger to him. He was simply aware that this planet was cold. On his bridge, the command crew prepared themselves for another exploratory operation. Naast'ika dove through the atmosphere and approached the lower sections of the planet as his sensors pulsed and scanned his environment. What they told him, excited Naast'ika considerably. The surface of the planet was covered in H2O. Water! Water meant ocean! Naast'ika had finally found an ocean planet to explore!

Naast'ika chirped happily with excitement to those on the bridge as he dived through the skies of SE2. The command crew, for their part, could not figure out what had excited the ship so much. The world appeared empty of technology and nearly devoid of life. Here and there animals made their homes in the snow below them. Scattered even more sparsely than the herds and individual animals, pockets of human life revealed themselves to exist on the surface of the planet. But they could not think of a reason for Naast'ika to be excited.

In subspace, Naast'ika's voice sang out his joy as he rapidly approached the surface of the planet. Subspace communicators would pick up this haunting noise, but little sense could likely be made from the sounds.

It was a sudden feeling of concern and dread coursing through Captain Tupu that hinted at the possible excitement of Naast'ika. As the ship plowed through the cloud layer and still refused to level out, the forward viewscreen displayed an endless carpet of snow stacked high atop the surface of the planet. "Naast'ika! That's not water! Pull up!" Captain Tupu shouted out as he grabbed hold of the railings surrounding his station. "All hands, brace for impact!" He shouted over the ship-wide communicator.

...the two Mandalorians that had come from the ship brought several items with them amongst them a duo of SC Blaster Rifles notably found in the Red Legion as standard issue arms but less popular amongst hardline Mandalorian troopers. Tossing one of the Blaster Rifles to Naimes who would shoulder his -Kath Hound- Shotgun he would catch the weapon and bring it in close to his chest before turning back to the Shaman and other villagers who had gathered around. Giving them the Blaster Rifle outright would be idiocy, none of them would know how to fire it however teaching them to use the weapon could offer them a significant advantage in the years to come. Lifting the Blaster Rifle in his hands Naimes would show the Shaman it and then raise it higher to draw attention to it from the men that had gathered around...

...the idea seemed relatively clear and Naimes, scanning the area, would have turned towards a carcass that had been strung up after a hunt. The animal looked like it had been struck by several arrows and a spear before dying. The Blaster Rifle was sucked tight to the crevice of Naimes right shoulder, the stock supported by his left hand, as he took aim and sucked in a slow breath while narrowing his eyes. On the best day Naimes wasn't the most accurate shot which is why he preferred close range weaponry however he had time to aim at the carcass and choose his target before squeezing the trigger. As he fired the blaster a bolt of light would cut from the barrel of the rifle and strike the carcass leaving a smoking hole in its wake and genuinely impressing those who had gathered to watch...

...Naimes hadn't the Blaster Rifle off to one of the villagers, a hunter, who came forward and stood back after demonstrating the proper way to aim and fire the weapon. As he stood back he'd watch the man likewise take his time before firing off a shot at the carcass which caused a stir of excitement amongst his peers. Stone age technology versus the Blaster Rifle; there was no comparison...

...suddenly a man screamed and a different kind of stir broke out amongst the inhabitants of the village causing Naimes and the other Mandalorians to turn and look skyward just as a ship broke the cloud cover and began a rapid descent towards the surface in the distance. A Starship that was, at this distance, unlike anything that Naimes had seen in the past. He raised one hand to cover his brow as he looked out towards where the ship was moving towards the ground expecting it to impact the surface in seconds unless a miracle occurred and he said...
"Explorers maybe?"...he wasn't sure but he knew he wasn't the only one who had come to the Companion Esk system..."Lets finish here. We should be able to track trajectory of where that ship lands. Keep an eye out."...

Naast'ika Laaran didn't believe the Captain. His sensors told him the surface of the planet was covered in water, so the surface of the planet was covered in water. But he was suppose to listen to the Captain, so Naast'ika pulled up regardless. Meter by meter, he plummeted towards the ground. His bow rocked back sharply as his Etherc Rudders twisted and turned, angling his body out of the dive. His forward momentum was shifted into a horizontal course as his Dovin Basal's coursed with increased power-flow. The singularity formed by the organ-like symbiots shifted to pull and counter the effects of the planet's gravity. As his decent turned from a flat dive to a sharp angle, Captain Tupu breathed a sign of relief.

"We're not going to make the turn." Junior Lieutenant Tesla Tersu said from Navigation. The others aboard the bridge looked at her in horror for a moment before tightening their grip on whatever bolted-down surface they could find. Naast'ika's body continued its race towards the surface of the planet. He dipped lower and lower as he tried to pull from his dive, but it was too late. His bow up and his body moving towards the east far faster than it moved towards the ground, his nacelle skid against the surface of the snow first. Plumes of white powder erupted on either side of Naast'ika as his body bit deeper and deeper into the snow. His belly hit next, gouging a great trough through the dozens of meters of snow and ice that covered the planet.

Within Naast'ika, inertial dampeners overloaded and sparked angrily as they attempted to lessen the shock of impact to those aboard. All the same, most of the ship's crew were tossed from their feet when the ship's ventral hull struck snow. Seconds ticked by as Naast'ika's body continued to rip through the snow before the prow finally bit into the white powder itself and the ship suffered a sudden and violent jerk as his head was forced downward and his aft end was thrust into the air. The corvette sized creature was flung violently from the snow, twisting and turning end over end as it bounced along the surface of the planet.

At last, Naast'ika's body came to a stop. Tilted 20-degrees to port and half buried in the snow, the ship finally came to a stop.

Inside Naast'ika, it was dark and silent. A sudden wash of red emergency lights coxed Captain Tupu's eyes open. He, and a few others judging by the groans coming from elsewhere within the room, eased himself up off his back and into a seated possession. His body screamed at him in protest. Bruised flesh and broken ribs assaulted his nervous system as his body informed him of his condition. A brief flare of neural activity reminded Captain Tupu of the events leading up to being knocked unconscious and a wave of panic flowed through his body, overriding his pain.

"Crew. Report." Said Captain Tupu weakly, a broken rip harassing his lungs as he tried to speak. "Naast'ika. Report."

A moment of silence passed for Captain Tupu. His ears registered the scattered voices of his crewmemebrs speaking to him through his Beskar'gam's communicator, but his mind refused to acknowledge them. The sole and encompassing thought that occupied Captain Tupu's mind was that Naast'ika was not responding.

"All hands, assess damage and report." He said with more than a hint of concern in his voice.

O-O-H Child ~ The Five Starships

"O-o-h child, things are gonna get easier~" the soft hum of the song would bring about a small tapping of fingers along to the beat along Chloe's datapad. Within its contents, the young Warden would briefly glance over the information Jorus had given her about SE- 2.

[ Technology level: Stone Age. Common species: Krevaaki, Columi, Twi'lek, Human. ]

Stone age meant that this was a planet that likely hadn't seen much of technology, much the less anything akin to starships. Hmm, she'll have to be careful with her exploration.

[Points of interest: An unnaturally tall, strong tower... A planet of heavy snow. Shamanistic Force traditions.]

This was a bit more familiar to her. Shamanistic Force traditions. The Warden had spent much time studying the Witches of Dathomir and then had a good amount of learning from [member="Ember Rekali"] on the Keetael Traditions. She'd start to nibble on the fullness of her lower lip. Sliding her feet off the piloting console, she turned over to the sensor array and the Navigation Map. So far sensors had confirmed that this was an ice planet. She'd have to get her exploration gear she used in Hoth out of storage.

HolographPlanet.png

Hmm... A small slump and she would rest her head upon her folded arms, blue eyes watching the slow spin of the holographic map. Her finger would lightly tap against it.

"Whatcha got over there in that tower mmm?"

...the starship that the trio of Mandalorians had been watching breach the atmosphere would indeed crash, kilometers away it looked like and out of sight, causing the soldiers to formulate a plan of action. They could have simply left well enough alone having been successful in their mission on this world thus far however curiousity may have gotten the better of them. Naimes already had a plan in mind and looking between the two men acting as his companions he'd have said..."You complete the trade here. Tell them more of our culture and how to use our technology."...he looked at the other man..."You're with me. We'll leave on foot."...that was it and the Mandalorians would disperse to continue on with the differing jobs they now had...

...before Naimes could leave with the other Mandalorian he'd find his arm taken in a steady hold by the Shaman who appeared to desire a final word with him. Maybe he wanted to impart a final impression on the Mandalorian. Naimes seemed to understand but he wasn't entirely sure what would happen next. The Shaman, clad in his trinkets and amulets made of bone and leather, would select one such item and place it into Naimes hand with a strange smile before releasing his arm and departing. Naimes looked at the item, a strange looking amulet craft of bone, as it rest in his palm and then placed on his person for safe keeping before departing the village with one of his comrades...

...the trek towards the crash site of the ship would have been quite the haul. According to a datapad that the man with Naimes was working his calculations out on it would be quite a hike across the frozen tundra. Good thing their Aliit'gam were insulated against the elements or they might catch quite a chill. Walking seemed like it would take forever but they were actually making good time however it seemed like the wiser option may have been to return to their own ship and take it to check the crash site. During the trek Naimes would notice how he hadn't seen any smoke emanating from the area they deduced the ship was most likely to have come down which was a bit of an oddity. If nothing else he deduced this meant the vessel should still be intact...

...after walking a time Naimes would open a comms channel to test the radius between himself and the ship they were moving towards...
"Unidentified vessel this is Naimes ahn Dross of the Mandalorian Clans, copy."...he would waiit several moments before adding..."Unidentified vessel come in. Do you require medical attention or assistance?"...they didn't have much but they could do what was within their capabilities...as long as these people didn't turn out to be Sith or hostiles everything should be peachy...

Twilight would kiss the withering dawn as the Aurora Hawk's hull would burn bright, melting the heavy fall of snow across her viewport. A storm was starting to kick in, and it didn't to much for preventing turbulence.

"Hold on tight!" Chloe would call out over her shoulder, fingers gripping the piloting yoke tightly as she fought to keep her steady.

"Come on ol girl, ain't much a bit of cold and ice can do to you," she'd say in encouragement to her boat, extending a hand to flick on the deicers. Her sensors were going all kinds of crazy, and with this much heavy snowfall, it was making it right difficult to determine what was what. A soft prayer to the Corellian Gods for safe travels would fall from her lips, and she sank herself into the Force, letting that energy guide her instincts and her direction.

"Yet though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...I will fear no evil."

...no response from the vessel they'd seen crashing in the distance however Naimes and the Mandalorian accompanying him would continue to press forward through the heavy snowfall leaving footprints behind them that would soon vanish completely. Once they'd reached a certain point Naimes would turn to his companion and take a knee as though he were assessing the area quietly before remarking..."No response. Maybe they're dead and rubble."...it wouldn't have been an unthinkable outcome..."We're not here on a salvage mission. We'll give them until our transport arrives."...by now the third Mandalorian should have been done in the village meaning he should be on his way back to their Light Freighter...

...accessing his comms channel Naimes would have made contact...
"Home base we're several kilometers out from the crash site now. No response. Requesting pick up."...there was a confirmation that came over the comms in the helm of Naimes Aliit'gam and then he got back to his feet. Tipping his head backwards as he came back to his feet Naimes would have seen a brief flash in the overcast skies laden with snowfall causing him to muse..."Another ship."...that seemed the most probably but he'd also consider..."Or debris from above."...space rock, an asteroid or something else but this seemed less likely considering the position of the planet in the Companion Esk galaxy...

...during his time in the village, learning the history of the ribe he had made contact with Naimes had learned of an immense tower on the world as well which he surmised was the skeleton of an ancient starship however he and the others hadn't ventured towards it. Assuming the villagers had been forthright in their history and considering its age the ship would have been picked clean generations ago. Still there was a hint of curiosity when he thought about it...

The Aurora would burn a crimson streak across the sky, the bright red hull managing to melt away the snow and ice to provide a measure of vision clarity. Granted, this was still in the midst of thick ice and snow clouds. Instincts in the Force to pilot through the elements honed over years would bloom in the Warden, and it wasn't long before she burst through the cloud cover.

Sensors would reach out, trying to map out as much as they could of her immediate surroundings. So far so good. Nothing out of the ordinary yet -- but there could be more. A slight frown would grow over her brow at odd static and readings up ahead.

Could that be the tower?

She wasn't sure -- but most importantly, she needed to find a safe place to land first and foremost.

"There!" came her declamation, well satisfied with the nice flat valley that would appear through a clearing in the mist. That is when she saw it. A black steep edifice cutting the sea of white stood the 'tower.' Weathered and crusted with ice and snow, it made an imposing sight.

Eyes widening, she would take one loop around, trying to get some data from her sensors. Oh yeah, definitely not just a regular tower. Hmm...

Landing a few hundred yards from its presence, Chloe would wind down the engines, but made sure to keep them running. She couldn't take a chance in this frigid weather. DOT could handle the security. She would give herself one hour, then if everything looked good, she'd set camp.
