For You Starpilots Out There

Would you rather DICE try to do too much and have broken things as a result, or would you rather a decently made game? Adding space battles in at this point? I can't imagine a worse move.

Want space battles? Go play the umpteen space sims already out there, get a mod that has xwings, be happy elsewhere. This game will never have space battles, and I'm ok with that, as long as everything else they put in it is fun.

I would rather have a good well-rounded game than a half-assed game. A game can be as pretty, immersive, and have all the nifty features that you want, but if it is supposed to be a flagship game that only caters to a narrow spectrum of players, then it's going to have people complaining and dissatisfied.

And we've talked about the progress of space sims out there right now. It's paltry at the moment, and is going to take another few years to get there. Space battles are just as much as Battlefront 2 had, and this is supposedly a hardship for the folks at DICE to make?

That's like the Ubisoft folks claiming they couldn't have a female assassin because it takes too long. Womp, womp, go cry me a river, either spend the development time or be prepared for people upset by your half-assed attempts.

That depends on what you think of as half assed. DICE has never done anything remotely space sim oriented before. But they do have shooters under their belt. And those shooters are generally regarded as being pretty darn good. On top of that, this is their first Star Wars game. We have no idea whether it will be good or not. You're perceiving this game as being half a game because there are no space battles?

So what you're really saying is, it isn't Star Wars unless I can pilot a ship. Isn't that like saying: it isn't Star Wars if there aren't Jedi?

And oh guess what... you can play as a Jedi.

There is nothing half-assed about leaving space battles out. I will only admit that to be so if the game ships with less content and less replayability than Battlefront 1 (which, by the way, I play more often than 2, because the ground combat was WAY stronger in my opinion). But from what I've seen thus far, DICE has given us no reason to believe that this game needs space battles.

If you're not going to get it because there aren't space battles in it? Fine, to each their own in terms of taste. Saying that this will be a bad game because it doesn't have space battles? Pretty short sighted, my friend. :)

I didn't. I never said that. I was always pretty clear that I don't personally like that, but I never called the game bad.

And in my mind, this is like if Homeworld 3 came out and changed the 3D plane of battle to 2D for simplicity's sake. Having a sequel that doesn't live up to its predecessor's standards is, yes, a poor compromise in my opinion. Maybe the game will be good, but it'll never be as good as the older version.
