DESCRIPTION
This specific locking mechanism seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with ancient mystique. A small, inconspicuous metallic orb rests unassumingly on one side of the door frame, while a discreetly carved mechanism is embedded along the wall, connecting to the opposing side. This antiquated yet intriguing system provides an unconventional approach to unlocking and opening doors.
This locking mechanism can be traced back to the Narkis Anchorites, a group of anchorites that operated on the moon Jedha in 9 BBY. Led by Jedi Master Cere Junda, they had the job of protecting the Jedi-sympathizer group known as the Hidden Path from the Empire. The Archive, also known as Cere's base, was built out of an old Narkis Anchorite monastery located in the Narkis Highlands region of the Narkis Desert. The underground compound, which was expanded to over ten times its original size, and several other sanctuaries throughout the Jedha desert, utilized this type of locking mechanism as an inconspicuous and archaic-presenting method to draw and keep imperial attention away.
By the 900s ABY, a similar concept had been employed in the restoration of the Jakku Jedi Enclave.
