Force sensitives in the senate ?

So, force sensitives are not allowed in the senate. My stand on this is that this is good in general.
It makes the Republic stand out as a non-force user faction fore most among the other major factions where many "top characters" are force sensitives.

Several senators are however force sensitive but keeps it an IC secret.

I like to think that the Republic keeps the force sensitive short so to speak and that makes sense since just as [member="Jack Sparrow"] stated, how can we be sure no hand waving controls senate votes etc.
I would also like to point to the fact that the recent PM that caused the devestating Red Dawn plot was force sensitive. She held it secret but I think a few people know about it and I am not sure if its been spread since then. It would be an IC motivator to keep this in check even more in the future. Some Paranoia is always nice. ;)

But then this happened:

Hey [member=Mantic Dorn], I was wanting to establish a political character and had to ask about Katarr. It hosts a Force Sensitive species, so I'm not sure how that would work with the rules against FU's in the Senate. I'm just curious if anyone's considered that.

The planet I wanted to apply for was Umbara, character name being [member=Geral Varta].

I have no answer here. So I figured we could toss up the ball in the air and discuss some.
Or rather, you discuss and I'l go on my vaccation. Its food for thought at least.

For the time being I added [member="Geral Varta"] from Umbara to the roster.
Maybe this should be handled more clearly in a new bill discussion IC-way. Right now a member of the senate cant be member of a known force order. But maybe thats not enough?

I'm a bit biased, but I was under the impression that the letter of the law was banning practitioners (Jedi, Sith et al) from holding office due to possible conflict of interest. Is there a specific law in place that prohibits such a character?

Being sensitive to the force, and being trained in the force are two different things. But I have not seen a Jedi/Sith be allowed to be Senator because of the whole mind trick/influence hand waves.

My two cents

We have countermeasures for blocking the use of the Force. Stuff the Senate with Ysalamiri, and employ species as guards that are immune to the effects of telepathy, like the Yinchorri. Test government officals for their midochlorian count, and have them register with the government. if they refuse, then they are sent packing back to their system. Most importantly, have the Jedi do the job they were trained for, and root out malicious Force Users with their Shadows. Now then, FUs and NFUs would be on equal footing without having to discrminate anymore. Instead of promoting NFU supremacy, we should be seeking harmony.

I know [member="Elaine Thul"]. But do we become a police state to protect the Senate from infiltration of force users. Because again. Being trained to use the force and having midichlorians different. Everyone has midichlorians because we are all living. All connected by the force.

I just don't support this testing.

Testing only identifies a Force Sensitivity, which we all seem to agree should be allowed. It does not tell you if someone is trained, which means the testing would be superfluous and only serve to placate baseless fears.
Like the American's tightening of airport security measures, while ignoring the fact that their Transit Security Administration has a 96% failure rate.

So I would be against testing as well.

But the issue I brought up before had specifically to do with a race of Force Users, and FU's who train in the ways of the Force.
Is it fair of us to ask them to elect only representative with no training? I feel that doing so would be against the spirit of the Republic as it serves as a way to place sanctions on who they are able to elect of their own free will.

Perhaps merely exceptions should be made for FU races like the Miraluka.

Representative Democracy doesn't necessarily represent everyone exactly as demographics say they should, rather they are elected from what is available.

That said, I like the idea of using Ysalamir in the Senate building. It not only would allow FUs to be Senators and what not, but would act as a passive defensive system against assault by force users.

If people would like, I can throw up a thread of Khyros calling a meeting to discuss this IC and take a vote on it.

Okay, keep me in the loop. I'm just trying to do a bit of catch up here while the little one is napping.

I like the idea as it's being presented. The new language could state that Force-sensitives are not barred from holding office, only those who belong to a specific order. Servant of two masters and all that.
