SETTING INFORMATION

[*]Accessibility: Fort Aldmer is a remote location. Due to its size, it is not readily concealed from those who explore the planet. It is still a restricted area, however, and those attempting unauthorized access are frequently shot down or detained.
DESCRIPTION

Aside from its religious sects, Devon Four is not a terribly interesting planet. Very little attention is paid to the planet these days, the religious sect that rules the majority of the planet’s sparse civilized enclaves keeping quietly to itself. Given the general obscurity of the planet and the lack of a planetary government, the Helix Syndicate picked over the ruins of an abandoned droid factory and decided to bring it back into operation.

Largely automated, Fort Aldmer is overseen by a staff of some 600. This includes workers, managers, administrators, janitors, maintenance officials, and other various support roles. All personnel are housed on-site.

Physical manufacturing of droids and droid brains take place in the surface structures, but the research and development of programming suites and targeting systems takes place in several subterranean levels beneath the surface structures. Vast arrays of supercomputers, flash-memory scanning centers, and detention cells can be found here. Keycards are required to access the majority of the areas in and around Fort Aldmer. Areas of critical importance, require retinal scans to gain access to. These retinal scanners can often detect whether or not the individual being scanned is deceased.

POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Manufacturing Areas (Surface Level)
Section A: This section handles the production and programming of the Epicurus-Class Droid Brain.
  • Section B: This section handles the production and programming of the Sallust-Class Service Droid.
  • Section D: This section handles the production and programming of the Mk. I Trajan-Class War Droids.
  • Section E: This section handles the production and programming of the Mk. II Trajan-Class War Droids.
  • Section F: This section handles the production and programming of the Mk. III Trajan-Class War Droids.
  • Section G: This section handles the production of miscellaneous Helix Syndicate equipment. Things like stun batons, spy droids, and so on.
  • Section J: The leisure wing. This area contains the living areas for non-security personnel as well as recreational areas.

[*]Other Areas (Subterranean Level)
  • Section H: The programming center. New modules for the Epicurus-Class Droid Brain are developed, while old ones are updated and expanded upon. This section also contains amenities for flash-memory scanning
  • Section I: The security wing. This area contains several barracks for security personnel, a detainment area, two armories, as well as the command and control center for Fort Aldmer.
  • Section K: The research and development wing. Mainly laboratories as well as a few large storage areas.
  • Section L: A storage area for the Fort’s automated personnel. Droids are repaired here when damaged, stored when not in use, and placed on charging racks when their energy supply is depleted.

DEFENSES

A wide perimeter of anti-starfighter emplacements surround Fort Aldmer and dot the tops of some of the buildings to dissuade possible air invasions. A shield generator is also present to shield from cursory orbital bombardment and any bombing runs. Close to the structures, two electric fences ring the facility as a redundant security measure. Dotting the outside of the facility are a series of anti-personnel auto-turrets meant to harry assaults by enemy infantry. Because Fort Aldmer can be accessed via road, a handful of anti-vehicle turrets are also located in this same area.

Inside, Fort Aldmer’s defenses are predictably mundane. There are security checkpoints at most major junctures. Keycards are needed for access to most areas. Retinal scans are mandatory for access to more important areas, like the control room. Be advised that the retinal scanners can detect whether or not the retina they are scanning belongs to a live person.

A network of security cameras keeps close watch over the employees at all times and auto-turrets monitor the hallways. These auto-turrets remain deactivated unless a lockdown is initiated. When active, they will open fire on any individual not carrying a clearance keycard or not logged in their facial recognition system.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Fort Aldmer was originally built under another name, but none remain alive to recall it. The structure served as a factory manned by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. At some point during the War, it was abandoned rather than destroyed. The structure was picked over by scavengers over the course of several centuries before a criminal group known as the Waylon Syndicate adopted it as their hideout.

The Waylon Syndicate was later hunted to extinction by the Helix Syndicate. Sensing something profitable brewing, the Helix Syndicate decided to refurbish the structure rather than destroy it. The result became known as Fort Aldmer.
