Forum Reorganization

FA%20LOGO_zpsw9cyvek9.png

Greetings Friends!

As your Faction Moderator, I am pleased to announce that the Faction Leadership, as a part of their plan to reinvigorate and revitalize the GR, has decided it is time to reorganize and clean-up our faction forums.

I have been asked by the Faction Administrators to coordinate what will likely be a rather grueling few days as we begin to see the changes applied to our faction. To give you an idea of the changes you will be seeing to make your lives easier, I have posted the full changes below:

+Resources
The Resources forum will contain information crucial to effectively role playing as a member of GR. Here you will be able to find detailed information about the IC GR (including laws, history, our planets, hierarchy, etc..) as well as the OOC GR (including ooc laws, how tos, an FAQ, an FA team page, etc..)

+Shatterstar's Speakeasy (OOC Discussion)
++New Members
Shatterstar's speakeasy will be reserved exclusively for OOC discussion for the faction members. Here you can find groups, ask for role plays, discuss new ideas, etc. This is also where Faction Leadership will pose poll questions to the membership and make general announcements.

+Galactic Republic Mission Control
This new forum is being added to exclusively house faction-wide planning. We will have forums keeping track of our current, past, and future dominions/invasions. This is also where regular faction members can post about skirmishes and dominions they are planning.

+The Workshop
++Pre-Codex Submissions
++Pre-Factory Submissions
This new forum is being added to coordinate submission efforts within the GR Faction. It serves several purposes for the Faction:
1) when Faction members want to make a new submission for the GR we can double check to make sure that thing doesn't already exist
2) this way the entire faction can see and participate in the development of new GR specific submissionn
3) it will lesson the work that SWRP Staff have to do by working out any kinks here in private.
This is not a requirement, but we ask that all members of the faction utilize this wonderful new resource!

+The Galactic Republic Senate
This forum will continue to serve as the primary vehicle for new laws to be proposed. It will be overseen by the Prime Minister who shall act as OOC moderator.

+The Galactic Republic Defense Force
++G.R.I.M.
This forum will continue to serve as the primary vehicle for military coordination. It will be overseen by the Supreme Commander who shall act as OOC moderator.

Please note that G.R.I.M. has been moved here as a sub-forum. G.R.I.M. is part military part Senate in nature, but by moving it to this forum we hope to raise their profile and allow for more coordination between or intelligence and military forces! GRIM will continue to be overseen by its appointed members.

+The Jedi Order
++Jedi Holocron
This forum will continue to serve as the hub for the Jedi Order, where padawans can track their progress and the High Council will convene to discuss important matters. It will continue to be oversee by the Grand Master who shall act as OOC moderator.

Please note that the Jedi Holocron will be relocated here as a sub-forum. This is because the Jedi Holocron, while available to the entire faction, holds special relevance to the Order.

+The Archives
++General Archive
++Senate Archive
++Military Archive
++Jedi Archive
The archives will be greatly expanded and reorganized to allow for simpler navigation. Each main area of the faction will receive their own archive where their moderator can sort their old topics. Topics that are archived from the 'general' areas such as resources, speakeasy, mission control, and the workshop will go in the general archive.

A lot of exciting changes here right? :D Along with changes I know there may be some questions regarding the changes. We invite members to post here to let us know your thoughts.

As always, keep your comments polite, constructive, and on topic, lest you be sent to Gen for punishment. Oh and those rude, not constructive, spammy posts will be flagged for removal. Cause who has time for that?

Always Yours,

Hopefully none of the new forums being made will encourage Faction Forum role play. In fact, we are hoping to encourage the opposite!

We have a lot of forums in the GR primarily because we have what amounts to 3 sub-factions (4 if you count GRIM) that arent treated as sub-factions. So each of them has their own main forum instead of a sub-forum. But that's what makes the GR unique.

I think it would be nice to open up our forums for viewing by outsiders though! I'll bring the suggestion to the Admins!

UPDATE:

The Workshop is UPDATED
Galactic Republic Mission Control is BEING UPDATED
Resources and Information is BEING UPDATED

Please be sure to check and double check my work and let me know if I miss anything!

Umm, you missed the Colonies region for your planet listing. Commenor, Hok, Nak Shimor, Carida, Arkania and Kiribi are in the Colonies.

Really, this is ill advised. All these planets listed are on the Chaos map, but there are SO MANY MORE planets in actual existence that we could draw from. Putting out a naive list like this is going to dissuade people into looking for more obscure planets that aren't on the map, and make them believe this is all that there is. Both RP threads (missions, et al) and Senators can use just about any canon planet within the Republic territory, we only need to stick to the map for invasions and doms.

The map is a carry-over from the previous Faction Administration, I merely added additional planets. The list did not include the Colonies Regions so I relegated those planets to the Core. I will go back and add a Colonies Region.

As for the list itself, I am aware of other planets existing in our sphere of influence in the Canon/EU however the planets on the SITE map within our territory are the only official planets we control (eg. the only planets that have representation in our Senate etc.) unless the site administration directs us otherwise. If you want more planets added to the site map, you can contact the Site Administrators with that inquiry.

The list is a reference for members, it should not discourage anyone from doing anything period. It will, however, remain in the Resources area because it is one of the important features of our faction.

The advice when I joined as a Senator was "no, we don't have a list because there are so many canon planets not on our map that you could represent."

Perhaps [member="Geneviève Lasedri"] could clear this up?

Also, regarding the mention I made in Skype, here are two threads that belong in Mission Control: Link 1 Link 2.

This was my understanding as well. [member="Cecily de Demici"], please clarify this with the staff so we are all on the same page.

[member="Jerek Zenduu"] [member="Aurelia Volcata"]

If i might clarify for her, assuming i understand how it sounds.

They only add a planet to the list when someone makes a senator for the planet, this is to keep things clean and not have a hundred random other planets that there is no senator for cluttering it up. Am i correct [member="Cecily de Demici"]

[member="Solan Charr"]

I'm not just worried about Senators.

This is presented as if it's a complete listing of all Republic planets. It's not. If someone wants to dev a location on a world, write an RP post set on a world, or represent a world in the Senate that's not on this list, the naive answer would be: you can't. There's nothing that encourages further investigation or opens the opportunity for more planets.

No, this isn't common sense. Wookieepedia is a resource, but since this site has so many of its own, we should make use of it. If we're going to publish a list of planets, it has to be clear in some fashion that there are more canon planets in our territory than we can represent.

Not trying to argue or dismiss [member="Cecily de Demici"]'s work, simply that I think it could be improved to avoid giving new members (and old) the wrong impression.

[member="Jerek Zenduu"]

Well, take into effect that our site map does not detail every world there is in the republic, and even some of the closest maps to our own are not the same as ours. It would be logistically a bit hard for anyone to truly know what planets were exactly in our ever changing cloud of influence. I know such a list would be awesome but we cant trily know what it is that is in our space at every given time. Its easier and less confusing for everyone to simply look into the map and maybe do a list of only the map planets.

I will consult with the Faction Administrators on this as I don't have a clear answer. I will edit the planet forum accordingly when I have their word.

Thank you Aurelia, Jerek, and Solan for pointing these things out.

Hmm. While I'm sure it looks nice for organization, I'm not sure we really need three forums for Factory/Codex things, nor separate Q&A topics. Questions are best left to the actual Codex/Factory judges in their respective Q&A topic in the actual Codex/Factory. And The Workshop should be sufficient for our pre-submission needs. Let's remove the Pre-Codex/Pre-Factory boards.

[member="Jerek Zenduu"]
I understand where you are coming from here and would like to help address the situation. However, for now, because we dont want to make too many jarring changes all at once, let's wait about a week or two and see if you come to like the way the forums are set up now.

After those few trial weeks, I'll ask to send out a feedback survey and then we can make changes based on what the members say to the survey.

After about two weeks of the current Forum Order, I will probably ask the FA if they will allow me to do a short Feedback Survey to the members. Based on the feedback we get from the members, we will be able to make changes accordingly.

Also, I have a few answers to some questions that were posed earlier:

  1. The reason I did not move Link 1 Link 2 from their current location is because they are sub-area specific mission boards. If [member="Corvus Raaf"] or [member="Gir Quee"] decide they want to place their mission boards in Mission Control, they can, but that decision is up to them.
  2. The Planet List will only contain the planets on the SWRP map, however, there will be a special note reminding everyone that ALL planets within Republic territory exist and are available for writers to use.
Thanks again for the suggestions, everyone! Keep them coming!
