Elysium Eternal

Elysium Empire Narrative
Ooc note: According to Ingrid, we are allowed to do this, we just can't alter the planet sub.

Slavery was outlawed by Heath Valhoun in The Elysium Imperial Constitution, and The Empire has been a more or less strict enforcer of its' policy within planets it has claimed...including the most autonomous of its' territories. However a recent claim, The Planet Lionus, has resisted The Empire's decrees and demands to free all slaves. Following pressure from The Imperial Bloc of The Senate, and some of the younger members of The Military, King Rex Valhoun has decided to make a statement to The Galaxy and those that wish The Empire Harm. He has ordered a massive assault on the planet, in space, and on land.

Objective One: The Assault
Leonmar, the capital of Lionus, is under a direct assault by Imperial troops from all directions. Provide support in any way possible!
Div.jpg

Objective Two: The Arena
Raion Arena was built by slaves, for slaves to fight other slaves. A small force has been sent to clear the arena of any prisoners, and set charges to blow it away.

Objective Three: Refugees.
Refugees from the capital have made their way to The Tigris Plateau. Protect them on their trip.

Rex had studied war when he could. It always caught his attention and held it. Battle fascinated him, particularly ones where one side defeated unbearable odds, such as The Rebels on Endor, or the Gungans on Naboo. So long ago, but so little seemed to have changed. Sure, new weapons had been developed, and hundreds of nations, small and large had risen and fallen, but the basic rules in combat seemed to be the same now as they were before.

It wouldn't be Rex's first time seeing combat. He had commanded liberator forces in a
Civil War, and he had nearly been fatally struck by an explosion that day. But his leadership had led to a victory, a close one, but a win, and since then he had wanted more, but administrative duties forced him to stay out of most military issues. But not today. Today he would be commanding the siege on the capital city of Lionus.

This battle would be a necessity, with The Mandalorian Enclave steadily claiming territory nearer and nearer to The Empire, rather than pushing East, into the Scar Worlds, and with a resurgent Confederacy calling itself The Ascendency rising in The West, a statement was needed. He had been reluctant, assuming it was just warmongering from The Imperial Bloc, until he took council from multiple military men. They had pushed so strongly for a true show of force that he had no choice but to accept...and what better target than a planet refusing to give up their evil practice of slavery? It was perfect.

Objective: 2

Lori's mom was freeing slaves at her age from the Hutt Cartel. She had used many different approaches ranging from attacking the slave camps, to disrupting the auctions, to going after the Hutt Cartel itself. And then came the liberation of the Commenori; not just once but twice from Sith occupation and slavery.

This time it was Lori's turn to continue the legacy.

However she was certain that Rex Valhoun Rex Valhoun wouldn't allow her to put herself into danger. So she went in disguise. Arla was with her of course, and had helped her to get them into the team that was to attack the arena. Lori's task was simple; locate where the slaves were being held underneath and get them out before the arena was imploded.

It all seemed simple enough. But sometimes simplicity couldn't be trusted.

The city was surrounded, and most of The Empire's forces were in position for an assault. However the city had significant defenses. Aerial support was out of the question thanks to several anti-air defenses that had been set up. Artillery was unavailable, because many civilians had refused to leave the city. Without air support and artillery, a frontal assault was too risky, even with the massive armored brigade commanded by Sanji Hoss Sanji Hoss taking the lead, an assault here would be expensive and embarrassing.

The young King thought for a moment, then remembered just how accurate
The Makashi Light Cruiser could be.

He pulled his commlink out, and contacted Grand Shepherd Burtch Grand Shepherd Burtch

"Grand Admiral, do you think your fleet could bombard the Anti-air emplacements, without causing too much collateral? We need to take them out before we assault the city." He didn't explain why, he knew Burtch would figure out such a simple tactical decision....

The Empress had a soft spot, a very temperamental one, when it came to slavery. Her years of torture at the hands of her "owners" had left several scars on her heart and mind. She had come leaps and bounds from her past life, finding friends, acquaintances, and even love along the way.

Through it all, the collar around her neck remained, a constant piece of her past that would forever stay.
Kimiko sighed, this was a massive deployment across an entire sovereign planet. But it was a necessary one. The current government had rebuffed Rex's decree against slavery and had openly took up arms against the Elysium Empire, and by association, the Sakuran Empire.

She had troops assisting in the siege of the capital, the force needed to break through the defenses would be immense.

A small detachment of her crack commandos were accompanying Elysium special forces to inflict a moral blow towards the locals.

But her place was with the people who had fled the coming storm.
She had offered to assist with the evacuation and sheltering of those displaced until they could return to their homes. But it was not going to be easy. She had set up a temporary landing zone for shuttles, medical and mess shelters, and even a recreational area for children. She had the SIN Cyaron and SIN Lily White pulling overhead and Marines and supporting personnel on the ground directing traffic and dealing with injuries. Everything was going smoothly for the moment, but she had pressed her small unit leaders to stay frosty out there.

Grand Inquisitor of the EOTL
Far above the besieged city, well out of range of the defender’s anti-air defenses, a squadron of Argus SAWACs craft carefully monitored the situation far below, handling a rather impressive amount of secure military communication and intelligence for the Elysium invasion force. Their multifaceted sensors acted like a thousand eyes, efficiently pinpointing the large enemy formations of infantry, armor, and anti-air defenses far below in the city. They provided a clear battlefield map to the upper echelons of the Elysium military-no large scale movements would happen without the Lion’s forces being aware of it, courtesy of the Empire’s military buildup and ever-evolving doctrine from a somewhat backwater Imperial remnant comprised of refugees and outcasts at the far ends of the galaxy into a competent and modern fighting force.

Aculia sighed softly to herself as she overheard the conversation between Rex Valhoun Rex Valhoun and Grand Shepherd Burtch Grand Shepherd Burtch as she flew with one of the War Hawk squadrons circling the city, carefully staying out of range at the moment. You would figure after staving off a potential assassin, bombarding those avians, blowing up an ion cannon, and helping to bury one of the more annoying and problematic Dobsons, she could at least get a mention from him on this operation! I mean, she was fine with the credits, of course, but she had been doing a lot of work! Just as much as Martin Dux had, and he got to smooze with the King and she didn't! It wasn't her fault she refused to wear those stupid outfits of the Lion's!

"Alas, maybe one day our young King will deign to recognize his humble servant", she thought sardonically, smiling a little as she did so, "until then, I think I will add a little surcharge to Burtch’s fees."

“ ‘Blueberry*, I’m going to take my squadron and conduct SEAD from afar, if you can get us a little bit of air dominance and keep their fighters from chasing us once we drop our payload. We’ll focus on their mobile and infantry based AA, since the guided missiles will still track them if they start moving as a result. You can take the fixed emplacements. Then ‘Kingpin’** will have an easier time with his ground assault."

She was really glad that she and Dorthea Dobson Dorthea Dobson had decided to put more of an emphasis on standoff weapons, contrary to the usual Imperial doctrine of simply swarming the enemy to death with weight of numbers. It was a bit more expensive up front, but when one considered the losses avoided in doing so, it actually ended up being an economic plus in the end. Plus, you know, dead pilots were hard to replace in a short period of time, and droids…well…there’s a reason not every ship in the galaxy was commanded by them.

Signaling to her squadron and one of the others who had been circling around, they grouped up on the far outskirts of Sanji Hoss Sanji Hoss 's forces, out of range of most of the enemy air defenses, sans their longer range missiles, which they were fairly well-equipped for. And then, with the targeting data being fed to them by the Argii squadron, began their attack run.

Scores of heavy and medium HARM missiles dedicated to hunting down enemy radar signals streamed across the sky, leaving brilliant plumes over the Elysium forces, as the War Hawks unleashed their full payload. They were soon answered by the long-range missiles of the defenders, which struck out from the city in the opposite direction in response, their trajectories tracked with precision by the SAWACs above. Enemy AA flak, laser, and shorter range missiles attempted to engage the HARM rockets, but their sheer speed and number, with over one hundred and twenty rockets fired from her squadron alone, meant that many would get through.

A fact that was soon confirmed as numerous small explosions slammed into the enemy air defenses with ruthless precision rippled throughout the city, black smoke and fire hurtling towards the heaven and waves of chill death permeating throughout the Force along with it. Many of the mobile AA vehicles and infantry squads soon learned a very painful final lesson in tactics that not every enemy would simply and easily fly into the range of their guns, that mobility really didn’t help all that much against missiles that could simply speed toward you at a far faster speed than you could move, having your radar on all the time was a very bad idea, and that maybe they should have invested in more of a space and air force over ground based defenses. She might have felt sorry for them...except they were slavers or in service of them, and she delighted in knowing they were going to die agonizing, painful deaths from above without so much as even seeing their enemy. A tremor of darkness emanated from her, if any were around and observing through the Force.

You bastards deserve every single missile that hits you. For what your kind did to them...and to me...

Aculia did not have time to admire the destruction, however, as the long range, heavier missiles flew towards her squadron. She had the advantage thanks to the SAWACs warning and tracking of them but they were still the biggest threat her squadron faced.

“Evasive maneuvers! Active ECM, Flares, chaff now! Like we practiced!”

If any of the ground forces were watching, a grand fireworks show soon erupted above them, as enemy SAMs met with flares, chaff, and electronic interference. Aculia hoped Burtch had sent the fighter escorts to intercept whatever kind of fighters they might encounter-they might be to make it out with minor losses to the SAMs if he had, but they were too slow to evade interceptors.

Corporal Bains Turro was honored to be part of the force sent to liberate any slaves held at the arena. Growing up in pirate camps, with a slave for a mother, Bains didn’t necessarily like slavery, but it was the norm for him. He didn’t come to the Elysium Empire on some campaign to avenge his young life, or save anyone from going through the same. He came to the Empire to make a difference. To be what many in the camps said he would never be. A stormtrooper for the Empire.

Bains looked around the ship at the rest of the strike force. He wondered what part he would have in the plan to evacuate the slaves. Subtlety was not his strong suit. He knew very well why he was part of this mission was the pack of explosives on his back. If the mission was a complete success those bombs would be placed properly and the heinous arena would be brought to the ground.

In the meantime he wondered how much good his Lynx Mk1 Guided Rocket Launcher was going to be in getting the arena under control and the slaves out before the building falls. Whatever the plan was he would follow it to a T and hoped he would have a good view of his work.

Objective: 2

Lori sat quietly, which had started to be more common for her as of late than what was her usual. But given that she was in hiding, it was the right thing to do. Her helmet hid her face and it was fortunate that the helmet came equipped with a voice modulator.

Arla didn't have to be quiet. She didn't need to hide. She brought up a small holoprojector and turned it on bringing up a 3D image of the arena in front of herself and the other members of the team that were strapped in their seats as the Dropship continued it's decent.

"As you all are aware, this arena is our destination. Our intel is scattered in regards to where the slaves are being held, so for the moment we have to plan for it to be unreliable. Those designated for search and rescue are also the decoys while the demolitions unit secure the explosives. For ample effect, the explosives must be set at load bearing walls and support beams. We are on a time limit. There is the risk that they will kill the slaves before we can free them. However I am confident that we will rescue some of them. Any questions?"

Before The Grand Admiral could respond, Aculia's squadron swooped in, sending rockets and flares flying in all directions. Explosions rocked the city, and according to Rex's tactical map of the battlefield, provided by the fleet above, anti-air encampments were getting wiped out like mosquitos on Dagobah. The girl was full of surprises. He had heard that she snuffed out a would-be assassin on Bimisaary, just the most recent of her services to The Empire. He'd have to award her with...then it occurred to him that The Empire didn't have any awards. They had honored their heroes in the past by naming ships and weapons after them, but there was never an offical metal or title. Surprised, The King filed this away in his mind. If he could remember, he'd come up with some awards.

"Uh, nevermind Admiral. It looks like Aculia has this under control."

"Alright, I want all of our bombers to fly through. Drop the warning pamphlets." The pamphlets were cheap paper warnings, with the words "Get out!" written in three different languages. This was the final step before a massive artillery bombardment that would bring the city to the ground. This would be a show of force, and a brutish one, but one that didn't involve civilian casualties. Only collateral damage, which could be repaired.

It had become increasingly common for Martin to be involved in this kind of scene. Flanked by two Knights, Martin watched over the refugee camp from the slight rocky hill. He had to give it to Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou , she was good at her job. Just as he began to smile, a frown came instead. He pulled the hood of his robe down a little more, he had to apologize to the Empress, he made quite a fool of himself during that court case.

"Do you sense anything?" Said one of the knights, pulling Martin's attention from camp.

Martin sighed, shaking his head. "Nothing I can sense, although, that doesn't mean either of you should relax."

The two knights looked at one another and nodded. Quickly, like they were never there in the first place, the knights descended from the hill. In moments, they were among the refugees, watching, waiting.

Martin chuckled, putting a hand on his face. They thought themselves better than most, they weren't, many of the Lions had a long way to go. Aside from that, they definitely needed to learn to show compassion. They were supposed to be a symbol of order and peace, yet the refugees were obviously unnerved by them.

Martin sank deeper into the robe. Slavery. This planet was, by his standards, awful. Martin remembered training a force-sensitive slave once, he also remembered buying him. The girl was malnourished, could barely stand, but she became a strong and powerful force-user. Martin bowed his head, he wished he remembered that girl's name.

Until something occurred, Martin would remain on that hill, watching, waiting, just like his knights. After all, they were only taking after him.

Corporal Turro listened to the woman give out instructions. His concerns about having to find a way through the arena’s security with hand weapons, while searching out stray slaves was aleveated. He would have only one mission, find critical supports for the structure and apply his explosives efficiently. He eyed the 3D image of the arena, but as expected it was not a complete schematic. He and the rest of the team would need to make decisions of where to place the charges once they were inside. It was less than ideal for Bains, he preferred a nice checklist for a mission. But he was quickly becoming aware that the galaxy seldom dealt in straightforward checklists.

Still the plan was quite good two teams, two sets of goals. The explosives team might not know exactly where their targets were, but they all had enough training to know what they were looking for, and enough ordinance to make sure the job got done. This was what he fled the pirate life for. To make a difference in an Empire that was making a difference in the galaxy. This arena would fall if he had to set all the charges himself.

“No questions Ma’am,” he yelled out from his position readying to leap to the ground as soon as he was sure he’d not injure himself in the jump. “Itching at the chance to force these infidels to their knees. Ma’am!”

The Empress picked up a young girl and attempted to comfort her as she seemed to have been separated from her parents in their flight and rubbed some tears from the girl's cheeks,"Now now sweetheart, let's see if we can find mommy okay? She's gotta be here somewhere."

This shuttle had been filled to the brim, likely a group from further back in the train that had just left the city. She traversed the staging area, keeping the little girl aloft on her shoulders and echoing the girl's calls.

Just then, a shrill scream caught her ears as a anti-air missile shot through the sky above and impacted harmlessly on the Cyaron's shields. Shouts from her Marines were heard as the response force began equipping to respond and a Hashidate Gunboat followed the path of the rocket to attempt to quell any further trouble. She raised her voice as she lowered the girl to her own arms,"Everyone, please remain calm! Marines, get the point of origin for that ordnance and destroy the launcher, we can't have them shooting at our transports. Attempt to capture the forces to the best of your ability, please." she ordered the responding Marines.

The little girl started crying once again, and Ki immediately went maternal, rocking the child and shushing her while planting a soft kiss on her forehead.

As a slight wind would gently sweep the area near the refugee camp, as a few of them would chatter amongst themselves. Serving rationed food and supplies to keep everyone that had made it that far...fed and warm for what could be potentially days before this outcome would be revealed. From across the hilltop, the opposite end of Martin Dux a black-cloaked figure would stand there. Dressed in ancient Jedi master robes given to graduates of several fighting forms from the Jedi academy ..color-coded in dark grey and black lining, with black combat boots..Visors in hand surveying the area below..Then suddenly his focus would glare across the way towards the group of Jedi. The right hand would swoop behind his back, attaching the binoculars to his utility belt, and with the direction of the wind, he would move swiftly with grace. Heading down towards the camp, he thought of one thing...Finding her....

Arla nodded as Bains Turro made his affirmation. She eyed the others on board, including Lori to see if they had anything to add.

They didn't.

"You'll all have one hour from the point of the drop to get in and get out. Keep radio silent if at all possible. Air support will be available if needed. Good luck and long live the Empire." Arla put on her helmet after shutting off the holoprojector and readied her weapons.

Lori was already prepped and ready to go. She wasn't entirely sure of what they'd come up against, but she had always been a resourceful one. Her Mandalorian mentors helped her to develop that skill. And she had instincts. Her brother would say it was the Force that guided her, but she wasn't trained in it like he was. And she much prefered to chart her own destiny than have some super energy beam do it.

The dropship's repulsors kicked in as the ship slowed down. The ramp lowered and within seconds the two teams were running out of it. Luckily they had the darkness of night on their side.

Rex watched as a fresh wave of fighters flew by overhead, reaching their target and dropping the pamphlets shortly after. He waited a few minutes, hoping any remaining citizens would evacuate or get to shelter, then raised his commlink again.

"Artillery, you know what to do."

On cue, no fewer than one-hundred and twenty-one artillery pieces, made mostly of "Tyrant"-Class Light Artillery, but supported by heavier cannons, including several Retribution Assault Artillery Walkers, and a significant number of Warstrike Heavy Strike Vehicles designed by The Court of Blades, and provided via mass-purchase.

The artillery barrage was brutal. Even from such a distance, Rex felt the shots in his chest, followed by the explosions, and soon it was impossible to tell the difference between the shots and the explosions from their ordinance. Moments later the massive artillery line was invisible, covered by the amount of dirt they had kicked up. The city, too, was covered in a cloud of debris. The only untouched area was the arena, where a task force was freeing any slaves in the area. Soon, it too would be destroyed, but from inside via explosive devices.

The barrage continued for about three minutes before coming to a sudden stop following an order from the King. This brutal show of force had costed The Empire about 400 million credits...a painful sum for their treasury to endure, especially given other projects. However, good handling of the economy in the previous six months, and a recent drop in corruption and piracy made the bombardment possible. But the battle was far from over.

The refugees entering the Tigris Plateau were relieved as they saw other familiar faces. Children that came running to thier parents and loved ones were relieved to be together again. The sounds of chatter grew louder. Suddenly a rumbling tremor was felt under thier feet as the ground shook and small pebbles seemed to dance around the feet of those that noticed. As everyone began to succumb to a state of confusion...It was subdued as many of them figured out soon enough that the siege of Leonmar had begun.

Suddenly from the hillside forest region, approximately twenty feet from the safe haven the heavy sounds of black boots began to impact the ground, compressing the loose gravel underneath with every step. With his face clearly visible to all, Kornelius marched towards the group with a clear purpose. As several children and others began to hide and back away from the approaching Jedi, Kornelius' eyes began scanning the area. Gazing upon the individuals and noticing no one really around to protect them. But he was not here for bloodshed..Although that could change as the direction of the wind often does.

"Fellow citizens of Leonmar.....I am not here for what you may think...I am here for one reason and one reason only! My sources say that amongst you there is a woman....A particular woman who some of you may know as KARA.....or an alibi that she is known by....The Red Sun.....She had red hair...Blue eyes..And she is like me......She also bears an insignia on her right hand..If ANYONE knows of this woman NOW would be the time to speak up!" Kornelius demanded as the crowd began to chatter lowly amongst themselves. A particular, nimble older gentleman, hunched over slightly and clearly lived a life of exhaustion would step forward and spit on the ground before addressing the Lord.

"There ain't nothin to be afraid of here folks....We wont be intimidated by you Sith! You and your self righteous ideals and unholy emotions...You all never know left from right..And you come here...A place where you can clearly see none of us have the means or knowledge of who your referring to..And you make demands like your the Emperor or something...Were protected..And we won't be intimidated!!" He yells aloud bravely, not knowing if the words that he released would be his last. Kornelius would squint at him slightly and nod, before looking lowly to the ground and then to the crowd again while clenching his jaw.

Before the landing ramp even hit ground Bains was launching himself to the earth of planet Lionus. He took a second to stabilize himself before he led the demolitions team towards the arena’s entrance. “Doesn’t seem like anyone is here to meet us,” he announced to the team. “Fan out. You know what we’re looking for. At the ground level the support beams probably aren’t hidden in walls or anything.”

After a quick check that his explosives pack was secure on his back and rocket launcher on his shoulder before he reached to his hip to unsheath his vibro-blade prior to advancing on the target. “Remember to keep it quiet. If you find any resistance no blasters! The other team is calling attention to themselves so we can get our job done.”

He rushed inside the arena ducking behind the first wall he found to give himself cover as he decided what route he should take. He was the first one in because he was bound for the far side of the arena. He waved the other members of his team in and then made out on his own mission. “We come in silent,” he chuckled to himself, “but when we leave they always know we’ve been there.”

Grand Inquisitor of the EOTL
Luckily for Aculia and her squadron, the standoff missiles of their craft allowed them to neutralize the enemy’s air defenses without much, or actually, any loss aside from some easily replaceable missile countermeasures and some fuel for evasive maneuvers. As she and her squadron pulled up out of the range of the last few long-range missiles, she received a private communique from the Grand Admiral, authorizing her to take over more assets to assist with the air support.

Just before the bombers Rex called in flew over the city, the Makashi Light Cruisers above opened fire on her command, taking out the rest of the heavy air defense structures, albeit with a fair bit more collateral damage and much less precision as several civilian structures near them suffered collateral damage ranging from shattered windows to glancing blows from turbolaser fire that collapsed the side of buildings. She would have highly preferred to simply call in more precision bombers to avoid that, given but they seemed to be on a quick timetable for dropping the pamphlets as the King seemed to really want to try out his artillery pieces and had called the bombers to drop the pamphlets before consulting her. She could only do the best she could do.

Hopefully he'll give the remaining civilians adequate time to get to bomb shelters or flee with those pamphlets...

Aculia and her squadron simply continued circling around the city as the King waited for a few minutes, then opened fire with a large artillery barrage that pummeled the city. She winced, and wondered if he had really thought this through. She did not think he had given them enough time-after all, he had given them what, maybe five, ten minutes before unleashing that barrage? If there were any civilians or slaves still left, did they even have the time to read the pamphlets with such little time? Let alone get to the bomb shelters? What about those in hospitals, who could not be moved so easily? Her stomach, usually iron, twisted in knots. She had known what it was like to be a civilian in a city under siege, helpless to do anything.

Of course, I doubt Rex gave it much more than a cursory thought, advised by his commanders. He should have given them at least an hour, or let more War Hawks or bombers handle it since the air defenses were down to strike things with far more precision. Maybe he couldn’t wait that long to show off the lightsaber in between his legs and play with his toys, though.

Her lips curled downward with disgust.

He was lucky she was attributing this to inexperience rather than malice and that a large portion of the civilians had already evacuated and were being handled by other Elysium forces, otherwise she might’ve flung a few missiles at him to give him the sense of what it feels like to have shells and bombs going off next to you with little to no warning. Still, when he went into the city proper, maybe he’ll see the consequences of his actions, and if the man still has a soul, will realize the actual cost of such an artillery bombardment with inadequate warning.

At least Burtch is in command of the real big guns most of the time, thank the Force.

"On me, Gold Squadron. If any of them survived that blast, we'll hit them with our bombs and missiles. Shouldn't have to worry about more than an errant surviving soldier with a MANPAD. If any civilians didn't manage to get to shelter in time and are still alive, don't use the cluster or incendiary bombs, use the AGMs and main cannon."

Arla held Lori back just long enough to go down the ramp before her. If there were any landmines or the like, she didn't want her charge to get blown up first.

And then they were down, moving along with Bains Turro and the explosives unit before branching off on their own direction once they got to the building. The dark of the night gave them a good cover and given the lateness of the hour, the amount of guards was minimal. Moreso they were meant to keep people inside instead of preventing people from going in. So their backs were fully exposed.

Keeping as silent as possible, the blaster rifles were not used. Instead vibroknives cut into the guards. Their bodies were caught as they dropped and dragged away to the side and set up as though they had fallen asleep on their watch.

All the while Lori kept to the schematics in her head and moved further down to where she figured the slaves were being held. It was easy, maybe too easy. And that was never really a good sign...

The distraction unit rushed by Bains’ squad of bombers as soon as they entered the arena. Cutting down guards with their blades, Bains was a bit jealous. Though his target was so far into the arena that he bet his blade would know blood before the end of the mission. After the recovery team got a ways into the arena the explosives squad started their work.

Trooper 4 immediately began searching the area for support beams. Bains was not working with his normal squadmates so he didn’t bother to learn names. He was Trooper 1 of course, the rest were 2 through 4. 4 was the one Bains felt least capable of keeping his cool and not shooting the place up if he came upon resistance, so he was given this end of the area.

Troopers 2 and 3 split off in opposite directions; they would take the East and West “corners” of the arena. Bains took off in the same direction as Trooper 3, but quickly overtook him. Bains was going to go twice as far and face the same task of finding the correct placement for the charges as everyone else. “Remember Troopers. No timed destinations. We don’t know how much time we have. These charges need to blow when we want them to, no earlier, no later.”

As he kept rushing towards his goal Bains cursed under his breath. He’d spoken too loud and a guard had noticed him. Corporal Turro may have been best at blowing things up, but no one better tell him he doesn’t know how to slit a throat when the mission calls for it. He rushed the guard before a chance was taken to call an alarm. The first move was to dodge out of the way of the guard’s attempt to elbow him in the face. That was followed by a quick armored knee to the midsection of the guard and Bains’ vibroblade through the guard’s exposed throat.

Bains slowly lowered the dead weight of the guard to the ground, retrieved his blade and was back on mission without a second thought. Trooper 3 passed by and gave a salute to Turro as he started assessing the visible beams and quickly pulled charges from his bag. Bains didn’t have time to supervise. He was lightly jogging through the arena now to make up for lost time.
