Viru Lentus
Character
This will be a collection of some of Viru's training under the holocron of Darth Krayt.
Still kneeling before the avatar of Darth Krayt, Viru raised his head. The ancient Sith Lord had said he’d take Viru under his wing. Viru could feel his muscles twitching in excitement, and like any other scientist he hungered for the knowledge that the holocron’s avatar would provide him. He could only imagine what secrets it held, what he would be like upon completing his training. How he’d make all those that once left him to die kneel. He would break people upon his will. All would come to either fear or respect him, he promised himself that. Only when he was trained would he reveal himself to the galaxy in force. “What’s the first lesson?” Viru asked eager to learn.
“Calm thyself young one. Before you can use the force or I can teach you, you must come into contact with it. You must feel its power flow into you, and learn to draw on it.” Darth Krayt said the gatekeeper as it motioned for Viru to rise. “Along with this you must come to understand the trappings of the jedi, and the Sith of old so as to not fall into the same traps.”
Rising to his feet Viru dusted off his pants. “How will I learn to do such a thing?” Viru asked. As far as he remembered he’d never used the force in anyway. At least not consciously, even then he could not think of any times. The jedi had denied to take him when he was a child due to his sickness which left Viru completely untrained and unable to use his abilities.
A smile touched the Avatar’s lips as it looked upon Viru. “Don’t worry my young apprentice, you will learn soon enough, and when you do you will learn just what it means to hate.” Krayt said.
Landing on the planet Tatooine Viru looked over to the holocron avatar that hovered next to him. He had to take the holocron just about everywhere with him when it came to doing what it wanted. The only time he deactivated it was when he needed to sleep or was in the middle of travel. Not that they were on the planet Viru wanted to know why he had been commanded to come here. “Why have we come to this place? I retrieved your holocron from here already? What other use is this dustball.”
“You shall not speak of my home in such a way.” Krayt said a deepening of his voice with a hint of danger behind it. Viru visibly flinched away as the avatar raised a hand in his direction. He had no clue what these holocrons were truly capable of and had no plans on angering the gatekeeper of it. If it was anything like the Sith he’d heard about he wasn’t too sure he’d survive. Nodding his approval, the ancient sith lowered his hand. “We come to this planet because it was my home at one point… Before I was reborn as a Sith. Before I knew of the power the darkside could provide me with. Before I ascended to rule the Sith. It was also the home of my father.”
“Was your father a Sith as well?” Viru asked the avatar as he grabbed the pack of supplies he’d brought with him for the trip to the planet. The heat alone would make it easy for one to become dehydrated and the nights were sure to be freezing.
“Regretfully no. My father was a great jedi knight. One of the greatest to ever grace the order of old.” Krayt said his eyes following Viru. “Leave the pack.” He commanded.
“Wait what?” Viru asked his jaw dropping. “You’re karking crazy if you think I’m going to leave this behind. I’ll die out there without this.” He said hooking his finger over his back and pointing to the supplies.
“My father survived this planet on his willpower alone. I do not expect you to be able to match him, however you will know the struggle that one faces in the desserts of Tatooine. It will break you down, take you to the edge of death, and finally when the darkside comes to you, when it offers you its help. You will accept it and be reborn. Molded by the desserts and the darkside of the force.” Krayt said his hands spreading as though a pariah delivering a religious message, and as I said leave the pack behind. I am all you need.” The avatar said his body shimmering as the light particles began to disperse. “Next time I shall not open by your voice, I will only answer to you using the force to awaken me.” The avatar said as it’s luminescent body vanished.
Are they all this dang insane? Viru thought as he struggled with whether to listen to the avatar or to take the pack regardless. He had no want to die, however if the pack would ruin the point of the quest it would be nothing but a waste of time. The gatekeeper even made it abundantly clear it would no longer answer to Viru when he called. He’d have to summon it with the force. Sighing he dropped the pack and snatched up the holocron tossing it up in the air once before catching it. Hitting the button Viru watched as the landing ramp extended. Final chance to turn back. To put all this sith stuff behind you.
Viru heard a voice in his head say causing him to pause at the top of the ramp. Looking at the holocron in his hand Viru was weighing his options, here he was being offered powered greater than he ever imagined, while on the other hand he could possibly lose everything he had already worked for. Then he remembered his days of living in the shadows, confined to a chair. Where he had to stave death off every day. “I can do this.” He said as he took the steps out into Tatooine’s wild wastes.
It was only a few hours into the journey and Viru was already cursing himself for not bringing his pack with him. He could feel the twin suns beating down on him as the heat took what energy he had. Draining the young man, even wearing the loose clothing and the turban to keep himself protected from the heat Viru could feel his legs tiring. An hour of marching through thick sand had begun to take its effects. The air was dry and he wanted nothing more than to be back on his ship where he could eat and sleep. The only thing he had brought with him had been canteens of water due to the probable rarity of water on the planet.
Looking back to where he had come from Viru looked to see a large cloud of sand building up on the horizon. It seemed to be rolling across the landscape picking up more and more speed. Being a scientist Viru knew exactly what it was without having to be told by anyone. Sandstorm! He thought as he turned dredging up what energy he could. While there were large boulders everywhere, there were no cracks or crevices to hide in. The nearest mountain was at least a mile in the distance. He’d never make it in time.
The storm was beginning to pick up speed and the wind alone threatened to send Viru flying. Making a mad dash for the nearest boulder Viru did the worst thing one could do. He looked back, it had only been seconds and the storm was upon him. He leapt with all his strength and went flying over the boulder where he hit the thick sand. Using his hands to cover himself Viru scooted near the boulder using it as cover. In the blink of an eye the storm fell upon him, the wind whipped at his loose clothes threatening to strip him of them. The sand flew by and it felt as though he was being cut all over where flesh was exposed to the environment. The pain was something he could deal with, but that didn’t make it hurt less, and that did not alleviate his fears as sand began building up all around him. HE couldn’t run out into the storm as he’d be snatched away or at least that’s what he thought. The sand at first had covered his feet, but a few seconds later he was buried up to his knees. Fighting against the sand Viru feared he would be buried to death, forgotten in this dessert. “NO!” Viru screamed out as the sand continued to bury him.
Finally, the storm passed and all that remained of where Viru had been was sand, nothing could be seen besides a slight shifting in the sand. Suddenly a hand shot out of the sand grasping what little bit of the boulder remained. Followed by another. Exploding from the sand breathing heavily Viru climbed out of his makeshift grave. The dessert had tried to kill and bury him. If it hadn’t been for his quick thinking, he probably would’ve died. Using the turban as a mask Viru kept himself from suffocating while he climbed to the surface. IT had been his will to live that had helped him survive. Laying on the baking boulder Viru tried to rest before feeling around to ensure he hadn’t lost the holocron.
The holocron was still safely tucked in the clothing. Releasing a sigh of relief Viru looked in all directions, the sun was beginning to fall and soon enough it would be night. He had to find some place to stay before then, if he didn’t he’d surely die in the dessert. He’d have to at least make it to one of the nearby mountians. However, he did not have the energy to run to the mountain, his arms and legs were sore from the effort it had taken to climb out of the grave. You’ll never make it. The voice in Viru’s head said trying to warn its owner. “We still have to try.” He said growling not willing to give up. Despite the cries of his muscles Viru fought on intending to survive.
Sometimes though your willpower won’t matter, Viru did not make it in time and as the suns set the temperature of the planet had dropped drastically. Huddled near yet another boulder Viru laid on his side. His tan skin had begun to pale and his body shivered. He had no strength left to draw on, he was hungry, he was weak, and worst of all he was scared. Everything he had worked for in life would be gone, left for others to fight over. No one would come looking for him, and even if they did they wouldn’t search Tatooine. His body would be buried and Viru wouldn’t be remembered.
Though as the darkness swam at the corners of his vision Viru could hear a new voice, a dark voice at the back of his mind. “Use me… You do not have to die here. You’re stronger than this. Let me help you.” The dark voice spoke its honeyed words trying to draw Viru in… And it was working, Viru didn’t want to fight anymore, he didn’t want to die. He wanted to live. “Then live!” The voice said as a new strength welled up deep from within Viru. “You do not need others. You survived over a hundred years off your will alone! Will you let this planet break you?! Will you die with a whimper like some mongrel pup?!” The voice asked chastising Viru.
“No.” Viru said his voice weak and frail.
“That is not how the strong speak! You sound weak! You will be lost in this dessert! You will die on your own! Alone! No one shall miss you. You are nothing!” The voice said.
“NO!” This time Viru said it with more power, his voice grew deep as his rage at the voice in his mind reached its boiling point. “I am Viru Lentus! Heir to the Lentus family, student of the Dark Lord Darth Krayt! I will not die here!” The rage fueled him, his body felt as though it were on fire as a new strength filled him. Reaching into his clothes Viru freed the holocron. He knew what he now had to do. He could feel the dark energy coursing through his veins his eyes now a golden hue. “I call on you Darth Krayt!” His voice filled with strength as the dark energy he now felt traveled through him and into the holocron.
“Yes!” the gatekeeper said as the Avatar of Darth Krayt came to life. “Now the true training can begin!”
