- City Name: Freeport
- Classification: Small Port Town
- Location: Naboo
- Affiliation: Royal Naboo Republic
- Population: Moderate to Heavy
- Demographics: The town of Freeport is made up of refugees from many aquatic worlds. Some are making a rest stop before their final push to the Outer Rim and the freedom and anonymity that the Rim brings, others are remaining on Naboo, a wonderful paradise world.
- 45% Assorted Naboo and Gungans
- 15% Displaced Mon Calamari
- 10% Blubreens and Hybrids
- 10% Selkath
- 5% Herglics
- 5% Nautolans
- 10% Various other species and migrants
- Wealth: Medium. Freeport is a trading village, where most of the credits are already spoken for to keep people afloat, and goods purchased to create more trinkets.
- Stability: Medium-High. Freeport is a city of refugees for refugees. While there are many native Naboo and Gungans, they make up less than half of the total population, and the village really maintains its status quo, with some crafters coming, and others leaving.
- Freedom & Oppression: As free as any one village with an elected monarch is. The village maintains its own laws, and enforcement. A small marshall and deputy system has been established by members of the Order of Shiraya, to maintain order through services and mediation.
- Description: Freeport was a small fishing village that grew seemingly overnight with the arrival of Brooke Waters, the Warm Glade witch clan, and their humanitarian moves. Prefabricated metal structures were delivered to help with the burst in population. These structures created the village hall, a small hospital, a school, and the rudimentary starport structures. Many vessels that arrive were landing on the outskirts, as so many refugees, if they had a ship, were more apt to call that home.
After the arrival, the village was also seen as a location to provide space for a small research contingent of Starchaser Enterprises, specializing in aquatic exploration, this arrived after more of the scientific minded refugees arrived.
POINTS OF INTEREST
- Old Town is the region named as it is the older part of Freeport, from before it was called such. This includes the broadwalk, where merchants have stalls most days of the week, and traveling entertainers show their skills. The fishing ports are located in this area as it is the water front. Older wooden and stone structures house the majority of the full time residents, and this is where you will find nearly all Naboo and Gungans, along with other of the beings who call this village home.
- New Town is the area where the town hall, school, hospital, and temporary housing units are. This area has several small markets and shops, and is very mixed use. For Naboo, it is almost seen as shoddy even if it is up-and-coming, with the technology further being increased and replaced.
- The Starport is exactly what it says on the label, a few landing zones for larger refugee vessels or cargo vessels. Not exactly a fast paced port, as most people who arrive in personal vessels stay on the Outskirts.
- The Sub Pen was created as part of an undersea lab that employs many of the full time residents, including a primarily heavy Gungan population. The research appears to be more in undersea propulsion, as well as surface propulsion, keeping in line with the Starchaser Enterprises focus on engine upgrades for starships.
- Witch Quarter is a relatively unique four-block area of the city where the Warm Glade witches and other Force user organizations congregate. Lit by mostly archaic fire torches, but sharing a glow of blue from the Dathomiri blue corals, there is not much known about this part of the village.
Low outside of the Sub Pen, this area tends to have Medium security, focusing on a rumor mill of clandestine dealings and the secretive nature of its work.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Founded by Gungan originally as a fishing village to trade with a local Naboo village, Freeport began to grow as collaboration between the two aforementioned races began to grow. With refugees making their pushes for out of the Core, and away from the major wars, they found the small area welcoming. Connected to the Abyss, and the greater Naboo riverine networks, it provided not only a location that was out of the way, but one that was intrinsically connected to the world.
During her travels of the galaxy looking for worlds that could sustain the rare Blue Coral, Brooke Waters stumbled upon the world and helped relocate another Witch Clan who became known as the Warm Glade clan.
With a friend’s connection to Naboo, Coren Starchaser tasked a small thinktank team of Starchaser Enterprises’s newest subsidiary ‘Depthfinder,’ to work on submersible technology for small-scale use. Hiring many local Gungans and displaced Mon Cala, the company began work on at least two small personal submersibles, and the makings of an underwater research lab.
