It had been done, her body needing some much needed rest after the battle above. Who had won? It didn't matter right now, what mattered was just finding a nice place to relax.
She grimaces as she practically slid down onto the cold floor, using the wall as support. Fighting was done, and as such she could allow herself to just feel. The current feeling being horrid pain as even her back was shattered, a wonder the occultist could even walk as far as she did..
Everything will be fine, she can pull through.. Always did.. Just need to close your eyes and drift into a slumber for a bit.
Almost drifting into a deep sleep, the vampire was swiftly awoken by the sounds of small boots.
Deep in her blackened heart she prayed it was not what she thought it could be, not him... Don't let it be so. To be dragged back into such an abyss, there was no worse of a fate.
What she saw instead triggered such a wave of confusion that it froze her in place, akin to a statue.
A little girl, skin blue, eyes red.
She seemed so familiar, was it..? Yes.. It was.
The sight of this child wandering around made Adeline frown, unamused by this trick.
"What manner of devilry is this? Am I not haunted enough? Pestered and hunted by your brood, now you try and trick me with this?"
The end of her words spiked with anger, gazing at her past self with eyes glazed with apathy.
Seeing herself from such a long time ago, her eyes started to water as the chiss child explored archives with a sense of childish wonder. Oohing and awing at what all she could find.
"Is this where heros are?"
Adeline said nothing in response to the image of her past self, tears starting to gently escape down her cheeks.
"Are you ok?"
The child asks, approaching Adeline. She couldn't bear to answer such a question, what did it look like? Such a stupid question, did she look ok? It was just so- so childish to ask...
"No."
The occultist gets out, a stressed expression adorning her face.
"Do we need-"
"Never again."
She cuts the child off mid sentence, not out of malice, but of truth.
"Ya called?"
Now appeared the old Jackal, the crimson clad gal eyeing up Adeline.
"I thought my contract was all done and dusted? What's the grim face for huh? Jokes aside I- Well... The first problem I am seeing here is you being all alone, why?"
Adeline sighs.
"I don't need to bother with others, it is a waste of time."
"The thing ya got plenty of?"
The woman squints at the other version of her old self.
"Eyy? See I got ya there! I had friends, maybe you just need to learn how to put some life into yourself."
This was no trick, but her... Interesting mind making the woman seem like she was talking to herself, when in reality her mind was indeed shared in a sense.
Her self thoughts were put on hold however, as her senses detected a noise.
For now she sat, leaned against the bloodied wall... Watching to see what, or who, lurked.
