After Darth Odam completed his Sith trials by slaying a Greater Krayt Dragon, he took the pearl from the beast and used it to create his own lightsaber. He carries it as a sense of pride, seeing himself above all others. No one else has killed a Greater Krayt Dragon and used its pearl for a lightsaber, so he has no one to tolerate.
The hilt design is based off the the dragon he killed. It is a constant reminder to others of his superiority and his power while he wields the saber.
