DESCRIPTION |
The largest of the Chiss Man-of-War classes and seemingly the most deadly of the three has awoken from its slumber and clawed its way out of its den. With the destruction of Csilla and a promise that no such tragedy will befall the Chiss people again, the GADF Nightdragon-class was born and unleashed upon the galaxy to lead the Chiss in their recovery. These warships were designed with the focus of providing Fleet Commanders the capability to easily direct and maneuver larger fleet formations whilst also providing them with a sweeping view of a conflict. This was accomplished in the design of its command bridge, located atop a large superstructure similar to Imperial era Star Destroyers. However, this added the unfortunate drawback of placing the command bridge in a precarious location to be more easily damaged, potentially crippling the vessel and preventing its continued operation. As a means to attempt to counteract this, additional defensive systems and heavier armor platting were installed throughout the Capital Ship, resulting in a heavier defense rating at the cost of speed and maneuverability. Though more than capable of withstanding a withering salvo of weapon fire from an enemy, it is known to move slowly as if lumbering through space. Likewise, it was not designed with maneuverability in mind, and even the simplest of maneuvers take time and distance to fully execute properly. A further attempt to mitigate some of the issues that the GADF Nightdragon-class is known to experience comes from its vast hangar bays and the large capacity of squadrons it can ferry and deploy into a conflict. As such, it is capable of deploying eight full Starfighter Wings - each organized with three squadrons per wing - as well as five full squadrons of Support Craft. Its secondary role is that of Planetary Assault Carrier, and the Nightdragon-class is known to be able to carry a full Division as well as multiple modular garrisons. Unfortunately, this added capability to ferry multiple squadrons has resulted in an unattended drawback focused on its hangar bays, which are so numerous, that even though they are defended heavily, they are still easily accessible. This can result in enemy vessels boarding, or internal damage being rendered to the vessel with a lucky shot or daring pilot entering the hangar bay. Drawbacks aside, the beast that is the GADF Nightdragon-class is more than capable of showing the Galaxy that the Chiss are still just as strong as they were prior to the destruction of Csilla, or at the very least, they will not willingly go silently into the night. |
