Intent: Armor for Alliance Marine SpaceOps
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: SoroSuub
Model: GADF SOMA-1
Affiliation: Galactic Alliance Space Ops
Modularity: Yes - internal armor systems
Production: Limited
Material: Duraplast | Armorweave Underlay| Thinsuit | Reflec Coating| K-65 Targeting System | Bloodtrace Scanpack| http://starwarsrp.net/topic/65608-solarium-glasteel/]Solarium Glasteel | Biostamp
Classification: Body Armor
Weight: 10 Kilograms
Quality: 8
Special Features:
- Sensor Warping: the reflec coating distorts sensor readings and light waves, making those wearing the armor difficult to detect.
- Thermal, NV, and UV Vision
- Anti-Flash Automatic Polarizing Visor
- Vacuum Sealed
- Thinsuit: Even if the external hard armor is compromised, the thinsuit could still provide protection from radiation and extreme temperatures.
- Atmospheric Filters: helmet nozzles filter out chemical and biological agents from the air, along with smoke.
- K-65 Targeting System: Allows the HUD to track a variety of targets with ease and efficiency.
- Forearm Encrypted Datapad.
- A/C System
- Duraplast Gorget: A thicker gorget protects the neck, since GADF scientists have noted that many Sith prefer a decapitating blow. A gorget helps to ensure survivability and better seal the suit against vacuum.
- Mag Boots: Magnetic soles can be engaged to help stabilize the wearer in Null G conditions.
- Bloodtrace Scanpack: Can detect Force Users.
- Visor is made from Solarium Glasteel. Very strong, blaster absorbing.
- Biostamp: feeds telemetry data on soldier's vital signs and emotional state directly to a squad linked HUD system.
Strengths:
- Limited Lightsaber Resistance: A glancing strike will not cut through the duraplast and armorweave, but a direct blow will.
- Energy: The duraplast is capable of stopping a blaster bolt. If it does not, then the armorweave should.
- Kinetic: Shrapnel and slugs are not likely to pierce the armor.
- Neural Band: a neural band built into the SOMA-1 helmet provides resistance to mental manipulation by rerouting synapses. A soldier wearing the helmet will not be able to mind controlled, though illusions will still work.
- Kinetic: However, the kinetic force from a frag grenade - for instance - is capable of rupturing the organs beneath the armor. The armor seeks to lessen this, but cannot prevent it.
- Energy: While the chest and back are very well protected, a direct hit from an E-web - or other similarly heavy energy weapon - could burn straight through, injuring or killing the wearer. Even a regular blaster rifle could injure the wearer if the bolt hits a structural weak point, such as the elbows, armpit, or hamstrings.
- Stiff: Although the SOMA-1 is not as encumbering as power armor, it still prevents full range of motion.
- Heavy: Those who have not trained every day in the combat armor will soon find out why marines do train every day in combat armor. It is heavy and cumbersome even with internal A/C.
Description:
GADF Scientists were tasked with production of a simple, durable design for Special Forces whose primary role was ship-to-ship engagement, where heavier armor or power armor would be a liability in CQB.
The end result was the GADF SOMA-1, a shell of duraplast over an underlay of armorweave worn over a thinsuit. Simple, but practical. The armor is black due to the sensor and light stopping coating of reflec. The red tincture of the visor is due to the solarium glasteel from which it is made.
