So... I had a beautifull written post that explained a lot and then my computer ate. As a result, this one is much more brief...but listed below are some very simple, basic descriptions of unit sizes to help guide understanding. Keep in mind that no Fleet, Line, Regiment, Battalion, whatever is the same. Numbers can and will realistically fluctuate based on location, mission, and funding :)

For our purposes, all PCs will be assigned to Assault Groups. THOSE units will have very specific resources and such will be clearly listed out for all members to see.

Regional Command: Any number of sectors in a given region will be supervised by a Regional Command staff commanded by both a Navy and Army officer. This staff will report to both the Navy and Army Chief of Staff offices for operational and administrative purposes.

Navy

Sector Group: Commanded by a Grand Admiral. A Sector Group can contain anywhere from two to three thousand capital ships and all necessary support craft.

System Fleet: Commanded by an Admiral. A System Fleet can contain up to roughly two hundred capital ships depending upon the size and importance of the system.

Squadron: Commanded by a Commodore or an Admiral. A Squadron can contain anywhere from sixty to seventy capital ships.

Line: Commanded by a Captain. A Line can contain anywhere from four to fifteen capital ships.

Task Group: Commanded by a Commander. A Task Group is a temporary unit put in place by a Line Captain to execute a specific mission with more than one capital ship.

Task Unit: Typically one capital ship operating independently as tasked by a Task Group Commander or Line Captain.

Starfighter pilots are members of the Navy. As a result, they do not have a separate command structure. They can, however, rise to command ships at the discretion of the pilot and with additional training. The typical levels of starfighter commander are:

Air Group: Commanded by a Commodore. Contains several Air Wings. In the event more than one Air Group Commander is present on an operation, the senior officer will have overall command of starfighter asset employment. The Air Group Commander typically reports to the Squadron Commander.

Air Wing: Commanded by a Captain. Contains several squadrons. Air Wing Commander reports to both the Air Group Commander and Line Captain.

Squadron: Commanded by a Commander. Contains twelve starfighters and various pilots/support personnel. The Squadron Commander reports to both the Air Wing Commander and the Commanding Officer of the vessel they are assigned to.

Army

Sector Army: Commanded by a General. Contains anywhere from 300,000 to well over a million troops and necessary support equipment.

System Army: Commanded by a General. Contains anywhere from 100,000 to 300,000 troops and necessary support equipment.

Corps: Commanded by a Brigadier General. Contains anywhere from 30,000 to 100,000 troops and necessary support equipment.

Regiment: All Regiments in the Galactic Republic Military are considered Augmented Regiments. Commanded by either a Lt. Colonel or a Colonel. Contains anywhere from 2,000 to 30,000 troops and necessary support equipment.

Battaltion: Commanded by a Major or Lt. Colonel. Contains anywhere from 500 to 2,000 troops and necessary support equipment.

Company: Commanded by a Captain. Contains roughly 130 troops and necessary support equipment.
