- "Darkening" effect
- Shrouded in Darkness: When used as a focusing crystal in a lightsaber or similar weapon, nightstone has a "darkening" effect similar to the light absorbing cell invented by the Kerestians. This effect extends to an approximately three meter radius.
- I Am Also Quite Blind: The wielder of the weapon is also left in the dark. To get around this handicap, they would have to wear infrared or ultraviolet scanners into battle, or rely on the Force to see.
