STRENGTHS
- Imense cargo capacity: Galaxy class merchant vessels are designed with four massive cargo bays, each a thousand meters long. These cargo bays can carry the same cargo capacity as a dozen large freighters or dozens of smaller ones. This allows for the vessel to bring more supplies to an area with less round trips.
- Armed and armored: This big behemoth needs it own set of hefty armament to defend against pirates and the like. Most Galaxy classes can stand up against small freighters and hold off even small cruisers long enough to jump to safety or until backup arrives.
- Drones and freighters: A ship this size requires its own fleet of drones and small one person freighters I order to unload its massive cargo.
- Slow: One thing cam be said about the Galaxy Class merchant vessel, they are slow in both speed, maneuverability and hyperdrive class. This can make them easy targets for pirates.
- Support vessels: A ship this size requires its own support crew. From small freighters and drones, to escort cruisers and occasional fueling ships. A behemoth this big never travels alone.
- No ground landing: Due to their size, these vessels never attempt ground landings. Instead they rely on drones and one person freighters to unload cargo. Most stops are made in orbit or close to space stations.
DESCRIPTION
Moving cargo from one side of the galaxy to the other has always been an interesting challenge for many. From bulk freighters traveling well used hyperspace lanes, to small craft following hardly used paths in the outer rim, all seeking the purpose of delivering as much cargo as possible. The Galaxy Class Merchant Vessels have taken that need to deliver cargo one step further, by creating a freighter so large it almost doubles as a station. With four separate cargo bays measuring one thousand meters long and nearly as wide and tall, these vessels were designed to carry staggering amounts of cargo. Galaxy freighters have reached a size where they are to large to make planetary landings, rather they rely on drones and small single person freighters to unload. These vessels also rely on a crew of hundreds, from mechanics, pilots, flight and bridge crew, all the way to their own security force and cooking staff. Combine that with all the necessary support vessels in tow to keep it safe and functional. Apart from the hangar bays, there are separate docking areas for the drones in compact sections on the hull the vessel. This also goes from the small freighters that are stacked together in cramped sections near the aft of the vessel. There are two separate crew areas on the Galaxy freighters, one near the bridge and the other near the stern. Each one of these crew areas has their own amenities. The distance between these two is covered by a small monorail that transports workers. Down the central spine of the ship is an elaborate system of cranes and rails that carry cargo containers around. The last storage module near the stern can be sealed and used to carry cargo that doesn't require containers, such as liquids, ore and grain.
