- Manufacturer: Lucerne Biological Systems
- Affiliation: Directorate, Silver Jedi Concord, Lucerne Biological Systems customers
- Market Status: Closed-Market
- Model: Galen-series MediSensor
- Modularity: different software, medical tools and related attachments
- Production: Mass-Produced
- Material: Duraplas case and attachment hardware, polyweave carrying strap, typical medisensor components
- Pop-up Doppraymagnoscanner: This allows Galen to get an almost full-spectrum diagnostic reading on specific body parts or regions. Some practical results from this scan might include finding cancerous tumors, broken bones, or muscle/tendon tears.
- Medtox Detector: This allows the Galen to detect toxins and poisons in the immediate environment. It can also analyze fluid samples (ex. Blood, drinks, etc) given to the unit for poisons.
- Diagnostics Sensor: This sensor and computer system provides the Galen with most of its ability to diagnose patients and provide advice on which medical treatments to pursue. Because of Galen's relatively small size (and thus small memory capacity), by default, Galen's memory banks only contain the most ailments or diseases that are expected to be encountered for common species. However, the diagnostic sensor's banks can be altered to cover different species or particular medical concerns. A data uplink to other computer systems can expand its abilities.
- Wireless Data Uplink: This allows the Galen to link up to larger computing infrastructure (base, city, starship computers, etc). This allows Galen to draw upon potentially more extensive databases to draw medical analysis from and to upload its own findings to that computer system.
- Micro-sonic Vibrator Injector Syringe: Allows contrast media and other diagnostic chemicals to be injected into the patient. Can also be reversed to draw in fluids from a patient or environment for analysis.
- Compact: The Galen is a fairly compact device (about the size of a datapad), which allows it to easily be clipped onto belts or stuffed into packs or luggage without a whole lot of effort.
- Compressive Diagnostic Tool: The Galen can perform the vast majority of basic medical tests in a compact, portable package.
- Short Range: Unlike some medisensors, the Galen can only scan patients within a couple dozen meters of itself, and resolution on most of its imaging is usually much better the closer the unit is to the patient.
- Limited Diagnostic Ability: Because of its small size (and memory), the Galen cannot diagnose some ailments nor does it always have the sensitivity needed for some proper interpretations of test results. While it is an excellent field tool, it does not replace the abilities of a hospital or medical facility with expertly trained medical staff.
A fairly compact MediSensor, the Galen is designed to provide medics and other healthcare providers in the field with a portable means of providing basic diagnostic tests, whether it's simple x-rays for broken bones or blood pathogen and toxicology reports. Once it has obtained this information, galen can automatically interpret this data to provide results to the user or provide access to raw data for a knowledgeable user to manually interpret. Users with a Galen Medisensor can run multiple tests at a time to narrow down potential problems with the help from the unit's computer, narrow down signs and symptoms to come up with the most likely diagnoses for a patient. Galen can even provide basic treatment protocols for the layman or semi-skilled user to pursue in emergencies. Despite the advances of Galen, it is still only a tool, and does not take the place of skilled medical practicioner or the diagnostic services of a full service medical facility.
