The Galleon-class Armored Transport is a mid-sized frigate designed to deliver cargo, commodities, or assault forces where ever needed. Based on centuries-old designs utilized by various governments the Galleon is a direct descendent of the Super Transport VIII-class bulk freight which was also used as the base for the old Imperial Star Galleon.
The massive internal storage area has three massive loading ramps that descend allowing the landed vessel to rapidly load and unload cargo. One ramp positioned in the aft hull between the engine exhaust cones and two ramps positioned on the port and starboard hull respectively are triple reinforced and armored and are self armored and protected the cargo pods equipped. These pods can be ejected if needed. The Galleon-class can fulfill many mission profiles and roles by changing out the cargo pod attached to it. Generally, these pods are designed to carry various types of cargo ranging from commodities and freight. special pods can be loaded to transport chemicals and liquids when needed as well as pods for livestock and living cargo.
Various Assault Pods can be equipped when needed to transport troops and vehicles needed for defense or assault missions.
A standard suite of sensors and targeting systems track and identify targets and feed them to the vessels targeting computers. Standard communications systems keep the ship in touch with its allies and can communicate at long ranges with holographic, visual and audio communications. A proton 8 reactor is positioned amidships which supply power to the weapons, systems, shielding, and engines of the vessel.
The Galleon-class Armored Transport has a large hanger amidships which opened to both port and starboard sides of the vessel. This hanger houses a single support squadron consisting of shuttles, cargo loaders and assault ships depending on the loadout and mission.
The Galleon-class is lightly armed for a frigate allowing the internal area to be optimized for cargo capacity. FIve dual turbolaser cannon turrets are positioned to give the Galleon-class a full forward arc while allowing three of the turrets to cover the aft arc. Two fast-tracking dual heavy laser turrets are positioned on the forward hull acting as the only defensive weapon system equipped. 2 quad missile launcher turrets located on the forward ventral hull. These launchers can deploy and retract from armored cases sunken into the hull for protection when not in use.
