Location: Tattooine, Jabba the Hutts Palace
Time: Early Morning
Rules: No blasters
Canon: No

Tumbling down the rabbit hole, you find yourself in a dark cave. Or, what appears to be a cave. Across from you, from another hole within a rock outcropping, you see your opponent flung to the damp surface below. Behind you, the hole shuts with a metal door clap against stone. Above you against the roof, you see a large metal grate, unmovable, that shows a crowd of spectators viewing the duel about to take place. With every hit, or the promise of a hit, they holler in excitement reminiscent of the gladiatorial arena. The room is rather large and upon your person, you find that all equipment remains with the exception of any blasters. Seems the guards had a rudimentary concept of weapons.

To the very east, you see a small door, big enough for a standardized sentient to pass through. Blaster door thickness, it's sealed shut with the exception of a view hole. From the other side, two gamorrean guards fire blaster shots upon the fighters should they get too close. To the west, a giant door remains sealed. Behind it, death looms. All along the floor, bones of the dead riddle the nooks and crannies. Some are broken, some are in decomposed unbroken condition.

Special considerations: On the 20th post, the door to the west opens to reveal a bull rancor. And he hasn't been fed in over a month. And he's angry.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. How the hell did he let himself get nabbed by these idiots? He was smarter then this. Letting himself get jumped and knocked out. Rookie mistake. Punks had gone and taken his gun. Idiots. Did they know how much the damn thing cost? He'd have to make sure he got it back once he got out of here. But right now he had bigger worry's. Someone else was thrown down the hole on the other end of the room. Chaff looked around, seeing the spectators. Clearly this was some sorta fight arena. Typical of these brainless pigs. Not that Chaff hadn't been in em before, but usually he had signed up for some sorta prize. He was fairly sure he would not be getting anything this time. Luckily, he wasn't defenseless. They'd taken his gun, but he still had other options. His armor appeared to be intact, and all the weapons installed in it. Missiles were loaded in one arm, a flamethrower in the other, and both wrists had his signature wrist blades.

Next, he looked over the area. Some sorta cave, it looked like. the entrance holes were on both ends, one he'd came in and the other one on the other end. He looked for other doors. Saw one to the east with a couple of guards in front of it. They were there to make sure no one got out before the fight was over, no doubt. He could probably take em. Might have reinforcements waiting, however. No need to anger a whole base of dudes if all they wanted was for them to fight. Also on the other side was a big door with a bunch of bones in front of it. Never a good sign. Something told Chaff there would be interference coming at some point during the fight, if other fight's he'd watched before were any indication. Chaff would crack his neck and look over at his opponent to see what they were doing.

Skylar took a second to get up, rubbing her head and looking up at her captors. She could just barely remember walking into the palace only to be caught by the guards and knocked out. Thankfully, they had left her vibroknife and short vibrosword in their place, but she knew why just by looking at the being across the cave thing. He was armed head to toe in dangerous looking armor, and all she had for was a small chest piece covered by her usual gray tank top and black hoodie. She would have to use her surroundings and her advantage of being the shorter one, she picked out hiding places and outcroppings in the cave, swallowing her claustrophobia and fear of imprisonment.

Skylar made the first move by walking slowly and cautiously to the armored being and holding out her hand, causing many of the observers boo. "May the best being be victorious. I just have one last request," she was trying not to shake to much as she knew she was probably going to be the loser, "If you kill me, make it quick. I'd rather not give these vermin," she indicated the jeering crowd, "total satisfaction, if you know what I mean."

Chaff shrugged. Fair enough request. Considering he wasn't even gonna be getting anything outta this fight, he wasn't inclined to drag it out. He still had a job to complete once he was done here, after all, and the longer he messed around in this arena, the further away the target would get.

"Sure, no problem. Let's get this over with." He'd say as he shook. Once they let go, he would step back a couple of steps and deploy his armor's built in wristblades. The left hand one he would put up in a guard position near chest level while he kept the right one down at his side, ready to move it for an attack when that time came. For now, however, he would wait for her to draw her weapon. Get a nice feel for her stance, how she handled her blade and such.

In one second, Skylar's knife was in her left hand and her short sword in her right, both activated and ready to strike. She moved her feet so that they were in a self defense stance, right foot just a little bit more forward then her left, and knees slightly bent, ready to jump into the nearest crevice at a moments notice, or jump forward at her opponent. Skylar's knife hand was down by her side but not idly, and her short sword's blade was protecting her weak chest armor. White strands of hair hung loose from her ponytail, and a ready look in her gray eyes to tell her opponent she was ready.

Skylar made the first move by leaping at her opponent, using her short sword to block the wristblades and jabbing her knife at the space between the chest armor and the helmet.

Chaff could see she was using a blade and knife combo for her weapons. Allowed for direct clashes with the blade while the knife went by defenses to kill the target. Smart. Blocking the large blade required both of Chaff's blades, held in an X position with the blade caught in the middle. This, of course, left him without something to intercept the knife. Luckily, the target area she was swinging for wasn't all that easy to hit. Chaff jerked up his shoulder so that the knife would impact with the hard metal of the armor, rather then cut through the mesh underlays of the armor and hit the throat. With his blades still occupied with the other blade, Chaff needed to get the upper hand. Usually, this would be where he moved to headbutt the opponent, but the blade clash was kinda getting in the way of that. So, he went for a more dirty move. He would take his left leg and try to kick it out, aiming directly at the lady's sensitive parts below the belt. It was a common misconception that groin kicks were not as painful for chicks as they were for dudes. One he had taken advantage of many times in the past to incapacitate an opponent before he moved for the kill. At the least, he was hopping to disorient her a little so he could go on the offensive here.

Skylar flipped backwards, her knife flying from her grip to imbed in the rock above her opponents' shoulder, and as she recovered from the fall, she took the full force of the kick in the stomach instead of where he had been intending, and went flying back against the cave wall. The observers screamed with delight as she fell to the ground on her knees and coughed up blood, staining the tips of her once white hair bright red. Skylar realized she needed to use her failsafe, and rolled into one of the crevices of the cave like pit, breathing hard as she gathered her thoughts together.

Chaff chuckled as he saw the opponent running.

"Hey, where ya going? Fight's over here."

Chaff wasn't stupid. He figured she was gonna be prepping a trap of some kind. Unlucky for her, he had ways of flushing out people who tried to pull that kinda thing on him. He would lift his left arm and turn on the flamethrower. A small flame would come out of it, signaling it was ready to be fired.

"I wouldn't go trying to hide if I was you. If you make me flush ya out of there, it ain't gonna be fun for ya."

While he didn't mention the flamethrower, it was possible that she might see the flame from it and figure out what he was planning. Meanwhile, he would stand in place, ready to react to whatever her next move was, whenever that involved dodging or use of the flamethrower.

Skylar took a few deep breaths knowing this was going to hurt her more than her opponent, since he was the one with the flamethrower. She scrambled out of the crevice, ran straight at him, and ducked under his flamethrower arm, using her strength reserve to twist it towards his face.

[member="Meanken"]

Now, of course, Chaff's armor absorbed the flames to an extent. He sure as heck didn't wanna hurt himself with collateral damage from the flames when he used em, and so it wasn't like the fire was hitting unprotected flesh. But, of course, he hadn't planned on shooting himself in the face with it. He had fired the second he saw movement, and so he probably got a couple of seconds of uptime on her using the flames. Hard to be sure, what with her moving fast and the flames firing in his face. The neck area, the bit she had been trying to skewer him in earlier, took the most damage. That mesh underlay was probably seriously damaged now. Skin showing and whatnot. After the second it would take for him to react, he would shut the thing off before more damage was done. With a savage yell, he would swing horizontally with his right hand blade at the woman's arm, the one holding onto him, trying to get her to let go of his other arm.

Skylar screamed as the knife sank into her left arm, coming out just in time for her let go of the flamethrower arm and roll away, leaving a stream of her blood on the ground. She backed away, watching her opponent waryly and holding her injured arm, then jumped upwards with all of her might, grasping at the hilt of her vibroknife until it came loose and into her right hand, her left now staining her tank top deep red. She was losing a lot of blood, and moved a bit more slower than she would have liked.

Chaff could see that he had the upper hand here. Lady was loosing a lotta blood, and she was clearly in worse shape then he was. Chaff cracked his neck casually. Or at least, he started too, before a sudden burst of pain made him stop and yell again. Ok, maybe neck was more injured then he gave it first credit for. Would be difficult to impossible to tell till he got in front of a mirror. But, he could still draw breath and move the head, painfully thow it may be. So, he wasn't horribly worried yet. He glanced at the opponent, who had been slowed by the blood loss, or so it seemed. With the new neck wound, Chaff wasn't eager to leap right back into melee combat. So he would casually left the left arm, the one loaded with missiles, and fire one directly at the woman. Maybe a bit overkill, sure, but they'd gone and taken his gun, so he'd have to make do with what he still had.

Skylar's eyes widened and she jumped out of the way before the mini missile could blow her to bits and leaped back onto the man, barely able to hold on with her bad arm and trying desperately to stab his neck with her knife as fear adrenaline over took her mind. She had left her short sword in the little crevice, but had forgotten about it completely, the fear of death and pain overwhelming. Skylar did not want to die yet, but if she was, she would die fighting to the last of her reserves.

Chaff had been expecting a few different reactions to the missile. The woman running at him and jumping on him wasn't one of them.

"Hey, hey, get the hell off me!"

This was his first reaction. Then the woman started jabbing for his throat again. One of the jabs came dangerously close to hitting, and he was fairly sure there was some blood coming from the wound from that strike. Nothing horribly deep, since he wasn't grabbing the thing and gushing blood like someone with a slit throat tended to do, but now she had succeeded in making him really angry. More rational thought went out the window as the man reverted to his base instincts. As he had always considered himself a predator, this mostly meant killing. With another savage yell, the man would try to grab the woman's arm with both hands before she could stab again, and if he grabbed it, he would try to bend it and break, or at least fracture it, by bending the middle joint of the arm in the opposite direction from the one it was intended to bend.

The opponent's yell was followed by an inhuman scream as his armored hand grabbed Skylar's thin one and snapped it like a twig. She fell to the floor, paralyzed in shock and loss of blood. She grasped for her knife as she coughed up blood, her face chalk white and on the brink of death, and her once pure white hair stained red from blood. Skylar saw her knife through her fogged eyes just out of her reach, but she couldn't move towards it.

Skylar looked up with pleading eyes at the armored helmet gazing down at her and pointed to her knife, barely able to choke out the words, "Please. Knife. Death coming. No strength left." She struggled to live, and she kept grasping at the knife, the only other thing she had from her past.

[Member="Meanken"]

It was fairly obvious what she wanted. She had said earlier she wanted it to be quick. With his opponent rendered completely defenseless, Chaff's rage subsided. She wasn't gonna be doing anything now. He would walk over to the knife and pick it up, twirling it as he walked back to her.

"Got any last words before I do it?"

She grabbed the knife and put it against her chest with her broken arm, and with her last breaths said her wish, "Find Templar and tell her that I'm sorry I didn't make it long enough to change." She held up her better arm, which clutched something inside of it, the pendant she had had since she was found. Then she fell asleep.

[member="Meanken"]

While he knew she had been dying, it would have been nice if she told him more then a name to go off of. Finding one dude, or possibly lady, named Templar would be horribly difficult without more information. And he didn't even know who the hell this lady was dead in front of him. He shrugged. He'd keep an ear out for word about em in the off chance he bumped into em, but he had jobs to do, he couldn't go off looking for em.

But fight was done now. He could hear the cheers of the crowd above as the fight ended. With a final shrug, he moved for the exit with the pig guards, who now let him past. Next step, he was gonna have to deal with the punks that threw him down into here. At the least, he was getting his damn gun back.

I have reviewed this fight and the winner is...
Meanken
So, there were a number of reasons that Meanken claimed victory in this fight. First and foremost, he owned the pace of this duel. Being more armored, more equipped, and physically larger, that's to be expected (maybe next time we should have fairer terms >.>). Along with that, he was consistent with his use of descriptors for hands, though I was given nothing else for elaboration (body placement, fighting style and methodology, etc etc.) I like the spirit you all put into this fight and towards the end, I felt that Skylar really showed the gravity of the situation in writing. I felt nervous for the character so that sort of speedy writing did the situation service. However, I have specific comments for each of you for improvement sake.

Meanken: So, armor. The image you have for your armor implies the natural form of the pectoralis. Now, despite common perception of armor, it's actually most vulnerable when being stabbed. The reason for this is that as a blade hits the armor, assuming it's not segmented, it will follow the curvature of the armor. It's actually one of the reason that most bastard swords or half-swording techniques used a mostly blunted edge with only the sharp bit at the end. In this specific instance, because you lifted up, I think the blade would have actually taken that inertia and followed through to the neck. May have not gotten a solid bite, but I think your defense really wasn't realistic for the attack. Also, I didn't like the use of missiles in a no blasters fight. I know the rules were unspecific in terms of projectiles, but I think that went against the spirit of the fight. We will be more specific next time around.

Skylar: Some of the damage you accepted seemed somewhat...far fetched. Not that you accepted the damage, but more that you took the damage too far. Example, post 7, a kick to the stomach isn't going to cause coughing up of blood unless we have some underlying reason (ruptured diaphragm). So unless you want to accept internal organ damage, this seemed...dramatic. I'd like to see a bit more specifics on your movement, hand usage, etc. Post 9, what hand where you grabbing with or was it both? And in this case, where did your weapons go? They sort of just popped back up in post 11, which was another instance of not knowing which arm was getting injured. You just kind of said good arm and bad arm, but I'd like to seem more description in these situations.

Spell check my friends, there is nothing more jarring then reading a duel and seeing misspelled words. I wont go into anymore details. Despite my critiques, I enjoyed the duel and the pace of it and your characters interaction. It seemed natural and holistic. I look forward to reading more from both of you.
