GBA: Scarlet Ghost vs Kaela Jaryn

Our two fighters find themselves in the middle of an octagonal arena, 30 meters wide. The outside is lined by three meter high walls of rough stone. Because of a recent incident involving a psychotic Sith chick, the crowd is protected by shields to prevent energy, projectiles, and combatants from entering the stands. You can all thank [member="Vrag"] for that one.

The floor of the arena is rough ferrocrete. It's grippy enough to provide plenty of traction, level so as not to make finding footing a chore, and colored red, in order to hide the bloodstains. While it'll be great for running and jumping and all that, it is rather abrasive, so the combatants should probably try to avoid polishing it with their faces.

Scattered randomly throughout the arena are a series of durasteel cubes, each one exactly 1 cubic meter in volume. They're not anchored, but they are extremely heavy. No cube is closer than three meters to its nearest neighbor, and no more than 7 meters away from its furthest.

The combatants will enter from opposite sides of the arena.

OOC: I feel I should point out that you're not fighting over the position of instructor. Though I expect both of you to give it your best, I'm not worried about who wins. What I'm looking for is whether or not you folks can demonstrate that you know what you're doing well enough to instruct others.

Good luck, and have fun.

Ghost had a reputation to up hold. As a sniper, a killer, merciless, quick thinking, supernatural and so completely above the mundanity of standard battlefield combat. She did not have a reputation as a duelist, but that would soon chance. Her standard rifle, the crimson rain, would server her ill in the arena that had been selected, which was why she had declined to use it. Instead she bore only her saber, and her combat claws, this fight would be decided by personal skill and valor at arms, not who was unlucky enough to be spotted first.

Scarlet strode forward, her body hidden in her form fitting, lightweight and most importantly flexible bodysuit. She observed her opponent, far to the other side of the arena. A miraluka, dressed modestly and ready for a battle. The day would prove interesting yet

The octagon. Nothing more than a vaguely disguised killing floor. Durasteel cubes littered the ground in a random formation, providing no singular straight line from a to b. Good. Too often combat like this was merely the art of moving from one side to the other and decimating the unfortunate being on the other side. This arena, though simple, required a being to be aware of their surroundings - and for a miraluka, awareness was a natural talent.

Yet they were not here to enjoy the view, or lack of as the case may be. They were here to display combat. Melee combat. The space was too tight for a true blaster showdown, although she didn't doubt that were it a mandalorian on the other side she would be sorely put to the test as far as deflecting was concerned. Instead, she saw a woman. A woman baring a lightsaber, some form of claws, and a connection to the force.

Kaela allowed herself to smirk, and began to slowly but purposely make her way towards the centre of the arena, where there seemed to be mildly more space than the rest of the octagon. However rather than meeting her foe in the dead center of the arena, she deliberately positioned her body so that there were cubes to the left and right of her, thus forcing her opponent to engage her in a linear motion and ultimately to the advantage of her form of choice - Makashi.

Only when she felt that her positioning was correct did she unclip her lightsaber, and with the ever iconic snap-hiss of the blades ignition her already crimson apparel was rapidly bathed in a deep red glow. She flourished her lightsaber in a salute with her left hand, finally allowing her posture took on the classic one handed stance of Form II.

Soon it would begin, and she was ready.

So many ways to approach this situation there were. She could rush in blindly and be cut down. She could wait patiently until her opponent lost patience, and come charging at her. She could play the harassment game and wear her down over time, or, as scarlet was now doing, she could draw upon the force.

"Kaei vire helfis etu kajis borwk e sen likt pust" With these words the spell was brought into reality. Each syllable reinforcing and direction the power of the force, bending it to Scarlet's will. The spell in question summoned strands of dark side energy that wrapped around the Witch's target, ensnaring her in mesh of brilliant dark sight energy. The lattice of energy would sever the connection between the individual and the force, and beginn to slowly sap their strength the longer the spell wore on.

After her casting she stayed silent, curling her lips into a predatory smile she beckoned her opponent closer. She now faced the option, to come out and facer, or stand her ground, weakening further with every moment she delayed.

The battle had well and truly begun. In other circumstances Scarlet would have preferred chance to properly meditate and center herself, but one had to manage with the situation one was given. She saw the Miraluka, saw how she moved, and to the Assassin's trained eyes, there was never a single question on how she would defeat her.

@Eralam @Scarlet Ghost

She saw it coming. Literally. A Miralukas sight was tied inexorably to the force, allowing her the deep euphoria of being able to see the force and it's infinite interactions with the galaxy. She saw how it was woven together, and she saw the spell for what it was. Deadly. Kaela was at a loss as to how her opponent had summoned such a thing into existence, yet this didn't gall her as it may have done to lesser Miraluka. She was a Sith. Fear had no place in her mind. Only cold calculating logic.

Her opponents opening gambit was no simple feat, but such feats came at a price. Concentration, focus and a deep use of one's immediate reserved of energy were needed to maintain them. Logically, the latter was not something Kaela could count on at any moment. She could only rely on the actions she knew she could take herself.

And action she took.

She stepped forwards, bringing her lightsaber up and through part of the webbing- the regular pulses of energy in the blade, bound into existence by science and the force itself acted as a temporary buffer, a way to momentarily release herself from the initial incapacitating effects for a brief moment, before the darkness of life without the Force could take her. And in that brief moment, during the ebb in the tide of the webs effect, she lashed out with her right hand, summoning the force into a wave of kinetic energy aimed singularly at the witches chest.

It was a force push, with the singular intention of knocking the witch to the floor in order to break her concentration and focus on the spell, in order to free Kaela from its lethal effects. Certainly, it was a less draining and more pragmatic approach to putting an end to her opponents costly use of the force so early on.

She was not sure how the Miraluka had broken the web. Theoretically it should have been impossible. This was no direction attack, no lashing out. Everything nearby would have been ensnared, however, it would seem this Miraluka had somehow managed to escape the incantation that had killed countless dueliest and fighters far above her station and power. It wasn't as if Scarlet had chosen it for just the reason that it was unavoidable, unless one knew the proper counter incantation, which were known only to other witches of Dathomir, such as her.

But what could one do? She had no way to explain it now. Perhaps later she could discover why? A warding spell? Doubtful her opponent was not a dathomiri witch. A rare lightsaber crystal? Doubtful, there was no known crystal capable of doing this. A fluke simply is what it must have been, and how Scarlet would explain it to herself later, critiquing her own actions in the battle.

For now though she was hurled back. She had had enough time to throw up her own warding spell, but to do so would have tapped further into her reserves of power, and The Ghost was not that willing to commit yet. Scarlet was blown back several meters, comming to a skidding halt roughly 30 paces from the Miraluka. She did not growl, taunt or threaten her. She simply flourished her saber and began to stalk toward her

@Eralam @Scarlet Ghost

She gasped. She rolled her shoulders. She advanced.

To be able to see without restriction again was a joy that she could barely suppress. Had she eyes she would have wept with joy. Instead she stepped forwards with an unfathomable hatred. This being. This duelist. This witch. She had seen fit to abuse the most precious gift a Miraluka has. The penalty would be given without remorse.

Her foe hadn't paused, other than to flourish her saber and begin to advance. It was all the encouragement Kaela needed. She shifted her body forwards, closing the gap between them both with lethal intent - each step bringing her closer and closer to her striking zone, which she counted as being a lightsaber blade and a half away from her foe.

It didn't take them long to reach each other.

Now determined to equal the score, Kaela pressed the attack. Her left foot stamped onto the floor in an overplayed motion, designed to catch the eye and cause her foe to pay attention to it. Then, as she did so her left arm unfurled, snaking up towards the right arm of her opponent - however at the final possible moment, her wrist flicked, changing the direction of the attack in a more diagonal manner and adding a little more dexterity to her swordplay.

Although despite all of this, truthfully Kaela intended to have her strike parried successfully, so that she could make the most of the kinetic energy created by her opponent in a savagely planned riposte involving a jung ma...

Pitiful. It was like reading a manual, such predictable tactics.

The witch rolled under the telegraphed slice and slashed backwards at her oppnent's leg as she passed her. She didn't stay still though, launching out of her roll she jumped up, landing on one of the durasteel blocks. She turned to face her opponent, not with the advantage of the high ground. She dropped her saber lower, going from a duelists's stance to a fencer's stance, her own style of fighting. Why adhere to strictly defined forms, when creating one's own could be so much more practical, as one grew used to it faster, and it could catch your opponent off guard.

This was not her first dance, as the saying went. Scarlet had killed enough men and women, of enough varied fighting styles for this to have been an unfair battle from the get go. What she did wonder however is why she continued to toy with her opponent, giving her the illusion that she could win. No, such was not befitting of her, she would end this, soon

Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and call this one. Normally judging duels with less than 10 posts is tricky, because it's rare that anyone can get an upper hand in such a short amount of time. However, we've got a clear result here, and I am not happy about it.

[member="Kaela Jaryn"] wins due to her opponent's disqualification.

This move right here is the reason why. [member="Scarlet Ghost"] not only called a hit, which is grounds for reprimand at best, but your attitude after was poor. You not only snarked at your opponent in character, which is again grounds for reprimand, but you then went on to send me an indignant PM about it. Calling a hit can lose you a duel. Being a jackass to your opponent can lose you a duel. Sending asinine PMs to the judge can lose you the duel. All three together are grounds for disqualification.

The root of the issue comes back to calling a hit. That is when you, in your post, proclaim that you have directly affected your opponent. This is verboten, and not calling a hit is one of the founding principles of RP dueling. You may ATTEMPT to strike your opponent. You may TRY to shoot them in the face. You may not actually write that you shot them in the face, unless they acknowledge the hit in their post. You can't even remark on the color of their clothing until they've established it first, which, by the way, Scarlet did.

That was bad enough, but then there was the snark. I get it. Sometimes an opponent will do something that pisses us off, and the inclination is to be a smartass. We've all done it. I've done it quite recently, as a matter of fact. That does not make it right, and it will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with a move your opponent makes, PM them. Or PM a judge, but do not be an ass about it.

Speaking of segues, when you communicate with a judge or opponent regarding a move with which you are dissatisfied with, be respectful. Be polite. Do not make demands. State your case in a calm and controlled manner. If you cannot do so, then don't be surprised when things blow up in your face. Because, rest assured, they will. As a judge, it's my job to sift through the ashes to figure out what started the explosion, but in this case, it was pretty easy.

Scarlet, take some time to cool down, review proper technique, and you will be welcome to duel in the GBA at a later date.

Kaela, I hope this experience hasn't soured the GBA for you, and I look forward to seeing you participate in future duels.
