PERSONALITY AND BELIEFS
Gem-in-Trash has seen much of the Galaxy throughout her life, and has brought back as many frustrating habits as she could along the way. Squirmy, curious, and much more intelligent than she first seems, Gem-in-Trash enjoys learning by doing and getting involved in whatever events seem to cross her path. It seems that no two Jedi have the same impression of her. Their encounters with Gem-in-Trash seem to be intense but brief. Generally she is seem to be very playful, competitive, and intelligent.
STRENGTHS
- Quick and dexterous, with a penchant for climbing
- Smart and attentive to the things around her
WEAKNESSES
- Where she has in speed, she lacks in raw strength
- Gem struggles to sit still and allow things to move on without her, and so she has a tendency to jump in without thinking.
Digs-In-Sands lived with a galactic nomad tribe of Cathar who wandered the stars collecting artifacts. However, she had been captured and meant to be sold into slavery on Nar Shadaa, but her captors failed to keep the girl contained when they weren't looking, and she began living on the planet as one of its many lost children, living hand to mouth as a thief, con artist, and occasional street performer. Eventually, Digs became pregnant while a teenager, and went about trying to provide for herself and her daughter, Gem, so named for being born perfectly healthy in a garbage bin.
When Gem was very young, Digs found herself helping a Jedi Knight on their mission, while the Jedi also helped Digs take care of her kitten. What the Jedi did not realize was that Digs had taken their kindness to mean that they were now part of the Jedi's pack, and, when the Jedi left Nar Shadaa, she had taken the liberty of joining them on their ship. It wasn't until they'd already returned to the Jedi Temple that they realized they'd had a stowaway.
The Jedi quickly realized that both Digs and Gem each had a strong connection with the Force, and they couldn't exactly send Digs elsewhere if they wanted to. Digs learned a few things but was already a traumatized, lonely teenager at the time, but Gem-in-Trash had great potential, and so Gem was accepted as a Jedi youngling. Digs was given a job with the Education Corps, and allowed to help raise her kitten. Digs would often bring her daughter on excavations throughout the Galaxy, and as a result, Gem was exposed to much of the Galaxy.
Gem was a playful and competitive youngling, always being the first to volunteer for a challenge. Many Knights would suddenly find that she had volunteered herself to help them with some task, be impressed with her work, only to find that she had moved into the next thing the moment she was done. Most understand that Gem-in-Trash is one that follows a path only she seems to be able to see, and keeping her on one track is a difficult exercise.
