Strengths
  • AR-0B Damage Reduction Armor Component - With a constant ablative current coursing through its hull, this system assists in mitigating the damage to the hull by the removal of harmful substances and debris. This also ensures the longevity of the hull, allowing for the vessel to be operational for longer durations prior to needing repairs or refitting.
  • GalaxyGuard Mark VII - Providing greater endurance and range to the vessel's Deflector Shield, this system has become a common fair and regular addition to many vessels designed and manufactured by Von Sorenn Industries. Though it should be noted that this system is not as powerful as those often seen on larger Capital ship vessels.
  • R-PB6 Repair System - A unique starfighter repair system that launches short-range probe droids. These probe droids are then capable of repairing the hulls of nearby vessels, as well as the hull of the vessel that launched them.
  • L-41c Weapon Power Converter - Originally designed during the Galactic War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire; this system allows the pilot of the bomber to transfer power from the ship's engine to its weapon reserves. In turn, this allows the bomber's weapons to be fired for a longer sustained period.
  • WhisperThrust Engine - Utilizing supercooled gases and engine components to scatter escaping gas, the WhisperThrust Engine is designed for the specific purpose of leaving behind as little sensor wake as possible. This allows a vessel - no larger than a freighter - to remain virtually undetectable while maintaining a cruising speed.
  • Atmospheric Flight Capable - Much like its predecessor series, the Gidim II takes cues from the older TIE Bomber; with the vessel being capable of entering and exiting a planet's atmosphere - allowing the Bomber to provide additional ground support when needed.

Weaknesses
  • Slow - Incredibly slow-moving, this bomber can be easily overtaken by faster more maneuverable fighters, often requiring that it be escorted by Starfighters or Interceptors for additional protection.
  • Bomb Magazine Vulnerability - When deploying its proton-bomb payload; the bomber is highly vulnerable. This is due in part to the large bomb-bay doors having to open in order to properly deploy the weapons. A direct hit to this section while delivering its payload would result in the hull being ruptured and could cause a chain reaction resulting in a cascading explosion as the proton-bombs detonate. This resulting explosion would tear apart the bomber, and has the potential to damage nearby vessels.
  • Limited Weapon Coverage - With the vast majority of its weapon systems forward-facing, coupled with only one turret based weapon - the weapon coverage of the bomber is highly limited. Even then, due in part to the raised storage section to the rear of the bomber just above the engine; the turret has difficulty covering the aft of the bomber.
  • SLAM Passout - An unintended side-effect of using the SubLight Accelerator Motor is that it has a tendency to cause members of the crew to pass out. This can often leave the vessel vulnerable in a number of ways; such as silencing its weaponry due to the gunners having passed out - or - causing the vessel to fly off course or crash because the pilot is unconscious.
  • Fin Destabilization - A pair of large fins extend from the sides of the vessel towards the rear near the engine. These fins are predominately utilized to assist the vessel during an atmospheric flight more so than space travel. However, if the fins were destroyed, or otherwise shorn off the bomber, it would force the starship into a spiraling dive which could ultimately lead to it crashing - either into the ground of a planet, another vessel, or stellar debris - whichever it strikes first.
  • WhisperThrust Engine - Consisting of sensor baffling material, this sublight drive was designed to leave as little sensor wake as possible; achieving this via the use of supercooled gases and engine components designed to scatter escaping gases to allow a vessel - no larger than a freighter - to become virtually undetectable while at cruising speeds. However, this system does not render the vessel stealth or invisible to the naked eye; and high speeds or sudden bursts from the engines - such as the vessel deploying its SubLight Acceleration Motor, cause the vessel to be immediately detectable by sensors.

Description
Inspired by the MG-100 Starfortress that was utilized by the Resistance in their conflict against the First Order; the Gidim II-class Bomber succeeds its predecessor in the primary focus of providing the Hellknight Corps with a dedicated bomber. While slightly faster than the predecessor version, the Gidim II is still a large vessel, resulting in fewer of their number being deployed in a single squadron. Likewise, it retains the original design - albeit it a bit more heavily defended and armed than the previous model - of a modular bombing magazine, however, it also retains the vulnerability that was first noted with this system in the first generation Gidim Bomber. In order to deploy the weapon, the bomber's bomb-bay doors must be opened; resulting in the vessel becoming vulnerable - as all it would take would be a direct hit to this section to rupture the hull and potentially set off its ordinance in an explosion that could damage nearby vessels. Even with the addition of a turret weapon, its coverage is limited due in part to the bomb-magazine and storage area that rests above the engine, blocking its arch to the aft of the bomber. Due to this glaring weakness, coupled with its slow-moving speed, it is rather easy to overtake and strike these vessels from the rear - resulting in its need to be escorted by Interceptors or Starfighters to ensure its safety.

In an attempt to mitigate some of the damage that these vessels are expected to take; the vessel was designed with a WhisperThrust Engine - which utilizing supercooled gases and components to scatter escaping gases - allows the vessel to become virtually undetectable to sensors while at cruising speeds. This is often used in tandem with the R-PB6 Repair System, which launches short-range probe droids that are capable of repairing the hulls of nearby vessels - including the vessel that originally launched them. It should be noted, however, some of the other features of the vessel have their own problems; and while it is capable of flying in both space and the atmosphere, any damage to the stabilizing fins that jut out from the sides has the potential of sending the vessel into a spiraling dive. Often this results in the bomber crashing, be it into the ground, the side of a mountain, or some stellar debris or another vessel is purely dependant upon its location at the time.

Though the vessel is slow and retains its original design flaw, the Hellknights still deploy the Gidim II in large numbers, due to it being durable and reliable in its capacity as a dedicated bomber.
