GIF display picture?

Hey everyone! A noob question but I've seen various people have a GIF display picture. I tried to upload one of my own I've found, but it remains on the first frame and doesn't move. Is there a special way/setting you have to do, to achieve a GIF Display pic?

Just make sure it's 150x150 or less, and within the allowed filesize.

I just crop it in GIMP and then export as GIF, making sure 'as animation' and 'loop forever' are checked.
