Title says it all! Not really good at introducing myself, so I'll ask a few questions instead:

• Is this all one big story? It seems like a lot to catch up on, is it necessary to read through all of it? And if it is, is there any place I can get a summary from?
• Is there any RP that is in need of new players? Or should I post my character file and decide where to go from there?
• Is there a general consensus on how long people should take between posts? I'm currently at school, so sometimes I might not have as much time as I'd like to write.
• I noticed that Santa Claus is a banned character, is there a story behind this?

I'm 100% sure that I'm missing questions, so I'll probably add a few more later. Thanks ahead of time, and I look forward to joining the chaos!

First welcome to Chaos.

1. We have events every now and then but no huge story arc.

2. Pretty much anything with a Public tag at the beginning of the thread title you could jump in..............unless the end of it say PM for invite. I would definitely throw up a bio as they tend to bring writers to you.

3. Always check with the person you are writing with. Some have a strict one a day rule others do not.

4. Just the usual somebody made one and the powers that be said something on the lines of are you kidding and made them change it.

Welcome! I'll answer as best I can.

1. Yes and no. The Major factions are somewhat a major cohesive storyline in terms of who likes/hates who and the major galactic conflicts, but you can learn as you go along. If you read it all...you'd be reading for a while! The major story of the board so far can be found here but otherwise you'll pick up the story as you write!

2. There are tons of open roleplays on the Open Role-Play section of the forums, but I would recommend posting your Character Sheet up and then exploring a little. When I first started here, a very friendly player asked if I was looking for a Master for my Jedi Padawan and that was how I got my start. Maybe you'll find something out of character, or maybe you'll find your place by joining an open thread, or maybe you'll find a faction you like and join up! But posting your character is the best place to start.

3. It really depends on who you're writing with. For example, I'm in your boat - I'm extremely busy with school and sometimes it can take me more than a few days to get back to someone. This may not work in Invasion/big war threads, but it shouldn't matter for private threads with your new friends. The key is to communicate! If it's taking a while, shoot them a private message and make sure they know you haven't forgotten them - for most writers, that's all that's required. Others around here post so fast it gives me whiplash. But as long as you keep the lines of communication open, all paces are accepted here.

4. If there's a story, I don't know it. Someone else may be able to answer!

• We have a timeline in our HOLONET dropdown at the top of the window (if you're on a PC or browsing via desktop mode on mobile). We have an overarching story, and it is something that would be good to keep in mind, but it isn't something that heavily influences day-to-day RP except during events (which we will be doing one of in 3 days). Just click on any one of the "Read Story --->" buttons to read a summary of past events on the site. The 835 ABY: A Galaxy At War is probably the most important to be familiar with, followed by the most recent Netherworld event of 844 ABY.
• I would post a character biography/profile first in the Character Creation forum, then from there you can join any Public thread in the Open Role-Playing forum or you can start a Looking for Group (LFG) thread to look for people to write with.
• Just send the other person you're writing with a PM and 9 times out of 10 they'll understand. If they don't then they're mean and don't deserve your writing anyways :/
• Santa Claus is a banned character because .. reasons. I don't know the whole reason behind it (I joined the forum after that point).

Thanks for the responses! I do have some questions about the whole character creation thing. Sorry if these have been answered before.

Is the profile I'm using now separate from my character profile? I'm a bit confused on how all of that works. I see that the characters are subaccounts, so do I post with them and not this one (Patar)? How do I do that? And when I go to my character's profile, I can't do anything to edit it. I'm probably missing something really important, I'm just kind of confused by it all. And when it says I need an avatar for my character, do I have to make my own, or can I just upload a picture from the internet that looks like my character?

If you're using your own picture I recommend uploading it to imgur then copy and pasting the picture wherever you want it (I taught that to myself so I don't know if there is an easier way to go about this. You can post Out Of Character stuff or (OOC) with either your writer account or character account, but In Character (IC) stuff or role plays should be done in a character account. To switch accounts first you have to make your character account (obviously) which I assume you've already done then you go to the top of the web page there should be a little grey bar on top next to a bell and an envelope (I use iPhone so I don't know if it's different on computers) then you click on either your character or your writer account. Also some other helpful tips:

-to tag a character or writer up @ in front of their name without spaces ex @ Patar (I know there is a space) [member="Patar"]
-to post an image instead of a link to an image to a topic put in front of the link behind it ex. insertlinkhere
-IC means In Character
-OOC means Out Of Character
-LFG means Looking For Group
-DON'T join PRIVATE role plays unless invited

You *can* use your writer account to RP from (I do, and so do a number of other people) so long as the name on your writer account matches your character name. And then you can use the subaccounts to write more than one character if you wish (many do, but only playing one character isn't uncommon).

You can find folks to RP with in a bunch of ways- posting in the Looking For Group Forum, joining a Faction, posting to other people's LFG threads/bios, getting up your own bio for people to see, or PMing folks who you think you'd like to write with! There's also a big, board wide event starting in two days- you can head on down to the Omega forum for more information on that. It'll be big, fast paced and *rowdy*, but there's always room for more folks!
