Public Gone Fishin'

Sesid

The empty black sands of the beach must have stretched for a kilometer on both sides of the nestled cove. The sound of the ocean waves made a person think cooling thoughts in the tropical heat. With verdant jungle to his back and brandishing a stuffed tote in one arm and hauling an oversized primitive ice chest Elgyn made his way to a chosen spot just six meters from the waters edge. There he had staked his claim with blanket and a large parasol that had been jammed into the ground. It was time for simple relaxation. Bare chested and his nose white with some type of sunblock El dug into the tote bag pulling out a retractable fishing pole.

With a pop the pole extended and it only took a moment to adjust the line and hook in a glop of stinking bait. Casting the line with a little nudge from the Force he flopped down on the blanket he and rested the pole on a propped up piece of driftwood. Retrieving a boxed drink from the cooler he spoke to the air: “Let’s catch some lunch” he said with a melody and a smile.

He took in the quiet of the beach and the salt of the air.

You couldn't have asked for a better day.

The sun shone down perfectly on the nice cold water. Today was a day for a vacation. Some much needed downtime. Enjoying his swim in the ocean was his way of spending his time off.

Many magnificent sea creatures swam with him today. From large whales to itty bitty fish, he had seen it all. Gracefully he swam by their side while trying not to disturb their company. Frowning up in the ocean always gave him a special appreciation of marine life.

After a nice swim with a pod of whales he began to swim back to the shore. Suddenly a sharp pain went into his arm.

"Owwwww!!!"

Looking down he noticed a hook protruding out of his arm. Nerfing fisherman. Can a Mon Calamari just enjoy a nice swim? The hook was very sharp and dug deep into his arm. He fiddled with the hook, yet no luck. He tried tugging on the fishing line to release it. Maybe that will work.

Elgyn sipped the small box drink from a long-twisted straw, the winds of the beach caused his hair to drift a bit. His right big toe rested on the base of his fishing pole; it was dirtied with black sand. Stretching his arms, the hybrid was at a happy ease until he saw the tip of the pole bend three times.

Dropping his beverage container, the straw clenched in his teeth, Elgyn snatched the pole as he jumped to his feet. “Let’s do this!” He shouted aloud and he jerked the line hard as he began to reel his catch in. “Look out galaxy…I am about to invent fish tacos!”

As he pulled and reeled El could not help but feel this catch was much bigger than he anticipated. Perhaps it was some native shark or billfish? The thought of such a large beastie made his mouth water. He would need to gather some dry wood before cooking and yet he had all the seasonings necessary in his tote and cheese in the cooler to boot!

Dang this hook went deep. There would be no way to remove it without proper tools. Giving up he started to swim back to shore.

A tug from the hook caught him off guard. He was pulled forward, being dragged through the ocean. Whoever was fishing was very strong.

It would do him no good to pull against the line. No need for his arm to get ripped out of socket. So he just swam with the line, giving up the pressure from tugging. Even he got close enough to the shore where he could almost stand. Looking out of the top of the water he saw the excited fisherman on shore.

His guess was the man wouldn’t be too happy.
