Good Morning (Dawn)

"Will she be alright?" Saran asked the med droid. Looking over the sleeping girl in the next room, she was worried. [member="Dawn"] had not been in good shape when the Knight had found her. The girl had been near death, and without the help of some of the locals, would have died in the Shadowlands. The poor thing.

She is beginning to recover. She will awaken soon. The droid replied, mulling through the various medical supplies. The makeshift medbay would need to be updated, but until Saran could move here, they were stuck. As the med droid began to complain about the need to use the wicker homes of the Wookiees, she moved away, telling the droid that they couldn't afford more. As she moved, a wookiee moved to stand next to her, growling something. While she wasn't as good as some, the frequency of the species in the GLC had necessitated Saran at least understanding Shrii'wook.

"No, I don't think so. I'll meet you soon enough." The taller one nodded and moved away as Saran entered the room, sitting down by the padawan's side.

[member="Dawn"]

The first thing I felt was the pain all over my body. All I could hear was a murmur of someone talking nearby, then the shuffle of footsteps coming in my direction. I tried to open my eyes slightly, but my vision was blurry and the world was spinning. I squeezed my eyes shut, making the spinning feeling stop. The pain I was in was unbearable. I tried to remember what happened.

My master and I were in the Shadowlands. Creatures attacked us. My master collapsed. A Kinrath spider attacked me from behind. A terentatek attacked me with it's claw. Fighting for my life. I fell to the ground. Footsteps. A shadow over me of something over me.

I opened my eyes to see a blurred shadowy figure still over me. Instinct told me the pain I was in would be worse if I didn't run away from this thing. I screamed as I tried to get up. I screamed even louder from the excruciating pain of my movements.

[member="Saran Drast"]

As [member="Dawn"] began to struggle to sit up, Saran's hand shot out, resting on the padawan's shoulder. "Easy there, Dawn." The small area was undamaged, which was more than could be said for most of the rest of her. The gashes across her chest were deep, and the impact had left her with four broken ribs, a multiple fracture in her forearm, and perhaps worse. She wasn't sure. Even if all those wounds healed, the girl may never be the same again. "You're lucky the Wookies keep tabs on that thing's movements. I never would have found you otherwise."

I was forced to lie back down as my name rang in my ear. It knew my name. How did it know my name. My head hurt too much to try to figure out who it was who said my name. I started to panic. "How... how do you know my name? Who are you? Where am I? What's going..." I trailed off as my head began to spin again.
[member="Saran Drast"]

"Calm down. You're hurt pretty bad." She winced as she looked over what [member="Dawn"]'s attempt to sit up had reopened. A trio of gashes across her chest were beginning to ooze something. "Name's Saran. You took a pretty bad blow to the head, so you probably don't remember me." She wished she had learned healing. It was something she had to learn soon. Reaching up her sleeve, she pulled the bracelet that sat up her arm off. Her Force aura now blazed out unhindered.

The pain from my injuries flared up as I realized [member="Saran Drast"] was giving off a force aura. The aura seemed familiar. "You didn't answer all of my questions." I paused trying to ignore the pain. "My name. How do you know my name?"

The Medical Droid rushed in before the knight had a chance to speak. It began fussing over [member="Dawn"]'s wounds, scolding the Miraluka as it did. I swear, Master Saran, you really shouldn't do that to someone in her condition! The Miraluka smiled at that. "You sound like my mother." She muttered at the droid, which didn't respond if it heard her. Turning back to the girl, she smiled. "We were padawans together before I left for Ossus. You stayed behind on the invasion."

"We trained together? At the Jedi temple?" I asked trying to remember. My memories blurred together as my head whirled. "Saran...." I whispered trying to grasp a memory. [member="Saran Drast"]'s name echoed in my head.

Saran looked at the girl for another moment before responding. "You would always follow me around the temple, and we'd trade lessons and tricks we'd learned. Salan was always amused, but it annoyed your master to no end." Almost as soon as she said that, she regretted it. [member="Dawn"]'s master was dead, the body on her ship. She shouldn't have brought it up. Too late now. Turning to the droid, she asked, " When will she be ready to move?" May be a while, she thought as the droid did another scan.

She is weak. Moving her at this time would be detrimental to her health. Nodding, the knight sighed. However, there is reason to consider the possibility of damaged limbs. Turning to the young Zeltron, it continued. Can you move your fingers on your right hand?

I tried to move my fingers. My whole arm was numb. I thought about what [member="Saran Drast"] said, and I remembered something.

I was following someone through the temple halls. We stopped when we heard my master's voice behind me. "Saran, Dawn, where are you going?" Saran turned and I did the same, putting on the most innocent face I could. I looked up at my master and smiled

My master. Where was he? I remember he fell unconscious but he had to of made it back ok. I looked to Saran and asked, "Where is my master?"

Saran looked down to the ground as [member="Dawn"] asked that question. She didn't want to answer that, but someone had to do it, and it seemed like she was the most qualified. "He's... He didn't make it." She sighed, her shoulders sagging, as she continued. She could still remember Master Salan's life flicking out, disappearing entirely forever. Another loss of life. "We tried to save him, but his wounds were to severe. He died before we got tha two of you up."

I looked up at [member="Saran Drast"]. My eyes searched hers hoping it wasn't true. "He.... he's..... dead?" I said. I looked away from Saran. "How... how could.... he was so much stronger than me. He.... he should of made it. How could I... and he not?" My words continued to trail off as I struggled to grasp the truth. My master was gone, but I had to move forward. I turned away from Saran. I was near tears. I tried to calm myself by taking a deep breath. But still tears rolled down my face.

Saran could feel something tugged my at her. She didn't know what it was, but she could tell it was affecting her. Shrugging it off, she turned to the padawan. "I think..." She paused for a moment, unsure. "I think he may have been protecting you. It would explain how you survived the blow to the chest. And why it ignored you." Standing up, she walked over to where the girl lay, resting a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I'm sorry. I should have been there sooner."

[member="Dawn"]

He was protecting me. My master always had my back in battle. We looked out for each other. But who would now? I was still a padawan. What would become of me? I felt her hand on my shoulder as [member="Saran Drast"] spoke. But something bothered me, so I asked her, "How did you know where to find us?"

"I got lucky." she said, forcing herself to not sigh, or try and comfort [member="Dawn"] in the Force. "I was dropping off a friend on planet and they mentioned that the beast was on the move. I decided to stay and check it out." she knelt, forcing back the memories as best as she could. "You were already out when I goth there. Your master wasn't, but the beast left then. It seemed it found better targets." His face flashed in front of her, and the Miraluka would have wept if she had tearducts. "He seemed... happy when he saw me. Asked me to care for you as we got the two of you to the lift. He..." her voice broke, and it took her a few moments to finish. "He died as we were heading up."

"Thank you," I said trying to keep my voice steady. I laid there silently, still turned away from [member="Saran Drast"]. I tried not to cry. I knew that me crying made other people cry. But I couldn't stop. My master was gone.... forever. But I had to stop being sad, at least for Saran's sake. But how? How could I stop such a strong raw emotion? I took a deep breath, and tried to calm down, and let go.

Saran sighed. "It's alright to cry. Not all tears are evil." She let out a breath, tensing for a second when she heard someone enter. The Wookiee, Zanantra, stood there. Standing, she told [member="Dawn"], "I'll be right back." The pair walked out, leaving the padawan alone with the medical droid. You should rest. Your body needs time to heal. Try not to move the droid said, watching the girl as it cleaned tools off.

"Thank you both. You have no idea just how much this means to me." Saran said. As the others nodded, Zan growled something, and Saran nodded. "In all but blood." The knight seemed to pause, seeming to remember something. "Oh! When she's healthy enough to move, we were going to head to Sancutary. You could come, if you wish." As the rejecting growls commenced, she lowered her head. She had expected as much.

The tears stung my face. I tried to wipe them away, but my arm was too numb to move. I looked towards the medical droid. "About how long until I can get up again?" I asked.

[member="Saran Drast"]

At least two weeks, assuming Master Saran doesn't do something stupid like move you before you're ready. the droid replied.

"And what makes you think I would do such a thing?" the Miraluka said from the doorway she was leaning on, apparently finished with whatever business had drawn her out in the first place. "I'm not a complete idiot."

You do it to yourself all the time. the droid retorted. How am I to keep you alive if you keep trying to open new wounds?

"Aw, but it's fun!" Saran joking replied, adding; "Besides, I know when I can take it. I can't tell when that is for her." Pushing off the frame and crossing to [member="Dawn"], she smiled. "We'll have you beck up on your feet in no time."

I smiled up at [member="Saran Drast"] as my eyelids began to feel heavy. I heaved a sigh of relief, trusting Saran would take care of me. My eyes slowly drifted shut as I fell asleep.
