Intent: Tired of being unable to traverse difficult terrain such as gravel driveways or gently sloping grass, [member="Goran"] commission a mobility kit for its astromech body
Development Thread: If necessary
Manufacturer: Rusty's Custom Firearms and Cutlery
Model: N/A
Affiliation: [member="Goran"]
Modularity:No
Production: Unique
Material: Durasteel, alusteel, servomotors, gyroscopes, microprocessor, hydraulic components
Strengths:
- Allows the previously mobility challenged Shard to traverse any terrain that can be walked upon.
- Gives him proper arms too, which will come in handy for duels.
- Not an easy retrofit. Installing the kit takes a few hours, as does removing it.
- Though it lets Goran walk, run, and even jump a little, it's not suited for full on Ataru-style acrobatics
- Kinda hard to blend in as an astromech when you have legs.
Description: The kit is essentially the lower half of an assassin droid that's been cut in half and modified to interface with a typical R2-style body. Powered by a series of servos and a hydraulic system, the legs allow Goran to walk, run, and even jump to a certain degree, though they're ill suited for full on acrobatics. The arms are optimized for dueling, allowing the Shard to make full use of its skills with a lightsaber.
Though being an astromech certainly has its advantages, mobility over difficult terrain isn't one of them, which was why the Mobility Kit was developed. In order to be installed, the droid's "legs" are removed. The kit's lets mate up with the machinery and control systems that power its third legs, while the arms mate up to where its primary legs are normally attached to its body.
In order to stay balanced, the legs incorporate a sophisticated array of gyroscopes and other stabilizing aides, controlled by a microprocessor. This allows the Shard to move normally, despite the frankly weird things that happen to physics when you plop a droid body onto a pair of legs.
