The Goro droid was developed with one purpose in mind—to aid civilians of the less developed and vulnerable Outer Rim territories.
Standing at nearly eight feet at their full height, the Goro droid may look intimidating to some. However, this droid’s true nature is ultimately passive; they are quiet, observant and helpful. Their superior strength allows them to ferry building materials, crops, supplies and people by pushing, pulling or carrying. After taking a new world under their protection, the ORC will leave anywhere from one to a dozen of these droids with the natives, teaching them how to work with the Goro droids and helping the bots find their place into local society. Yula based this droid’s design is loosely based on the Beorni of Midvinter, a race of large, bear-like people known for their patience and quiet strength.
As this droid is non-violent towards most organics, they have no armaments for which to defend themselves and their charges. However, each droid is equipped with a deflector shield that can cover ~200m at its maximum. Should the natives come under attack, the droid will primarily play a defensive role in shielding civilians and activate it’s homing beacon to alert nearby ORC vessels of the attack. Generally, the Goro droid is intelligent enough to observe a problem and try to fix it, including leading civilians away from strife and barricading them in with nearby materials if necessary.
If absolutely pressed, the Goro droid can fight by swinging its large limbs, which generate enough force to crack boulders and shatter the earth beneath it. Though it’s punch may be deadly, the Goro droid is still slow and can be easily dodged by a faster opponent. Above all, the Goro droid is programmed to be friendly and cooperative, assisting with tasks involving transport, building, agriculture and other every day errands.
