The Empire of the Lost has shelled the Diarchy capital of Bastion in what Dantooine authorities are calling a diplomatic session gone wrong.
A firefight broke out yesterday between Lost and Diarchy forces, requiring all diplomats from Dantooine to be evacuated.
Governor Ova Ziss stands accused of shooting a critical diplomatic messenger, believed to be Moff Oritani, a minor figure who represented the Lost-occupied Tian system. Holopad footage obtained by The Dantooine Chronicle shows Ziss hip-firing his weapon over seven times at the Moff, before being evacuated via swoop bike.
Governor Ziss denies that the wanted vigilante swoop bike group The Space Wolves were involved in the assassination, affirming the following: "No. No. I shot him myself."
Because Dantooine does not extradite its prisoners to The Lost's capital of Lianna, Governor Ziss has been placed under indefinite house arrest. Ziss must remain on Dantooine indefinitely and, if caught smuggling himself out of the Dantooine System, he will be executed.
If Dantooine joins the Diarchy's influence, Dantooine authorities are concerned about the future of Ova Ziss. Some Dantari citizens fear that Diarchs Rellik and Reign are conspiring with the Fifth Wing to turn Ova Ziss over to newly-coronated Empress Kanni Ugaiya Kilran. Others fear that Dantooine's prior independence will be crushed under the new Diarchy government. The Dantooine Parliament has moved to put a stop to the planetary population of Dantooine's system by the Diarchy, suspecting the Fifth Wing may have infiltrated the Diarchy in Bastion, too.
Experts say that there is little the Dantooine Parliament can do to stop the Diarchy from occupying the Dantooine System, and potentially fielding military troops from the planet.
From his private condo on Dantooine Space Station, Governor Ziss met with the press - including The Dantooine Chronicle - and he released this statement.
"Dantooine is at war, and the Braxant Run is a powerkeg". The Governor started his speech simply and plainly.
The Governor rigorously defended his decision to shoot Moff Oritani, stating that mere moments before, the Lost began to shell the City of Ravelin during a diplomatic summit.
"I acted entirely in self defense, and I ask all citizens of Dantooine to do the same. Henceforth, I won't be Governor Ziss. That is the name of an empire that is now in ruins, with the shelling of Bastion. Now, I will evolve into something better. I will be - Lord Ziss."
The Governor declared that a significant civil defense recruitment and bolstering drive was already underway as a result of the Ravelin Incident.
"Today, I - Lord Ziss - shall enact Dantooine Parliamentary Order 11531: the Dantooine Civil Defense Initiative. We're going to impress these invaders with our planetary defenses. We're going to find and restore Dantooine Base. We will hire more military and navy recruits than we ever have in our planet's history. We're going to bring the galaxy's R&D experts to Dantooine so we can fight the Dark Empire, the Lost, and the Fifth Wing out of our system!"
A member of the press asked about the Dantooine Open, which will see its championship swoop races begin during the first week of March. Many are worried about the possibility of a terrorist attack at the "Open". Governor Ziss refuted this claim as unlikely.
"The Space Station's swoop races, they will continue as usual. We have Diarchs, Grandmaster Jedi, Sith Lords, and Master Witches present all over the grandstands. The Fifth Wing is real, and if they foolishly interrupt our swoop races, we will find them."
A member of the press asked Ova Ziss about the Fifth Wing, and Ziss believes that there could be additional enemies inside of the Diarchy.
"It would seem that this Fifth Wing has infiltrated the Diarchy, too. The Parliament has called off our deal until we can have some certainty. We are still considering integration into the Diarchy - but with special stipulations about Dantooine's safety."
When asked how far he would take this fight, Governor Ziss enthusiastically responded that he would take the fight straight to the Fifth Wing.
"Oh, the gloves are off. If they want a fight, we'll give them one."
