The GR Series Transport designed by Gallofree Yards was developed sometime after the end of the Gulag Plague. While the legacy of the GR series was a strong one, the association with rag-tag anti-establishment rebels was one that had grown tiring for the medium-sized shipbuilding company. In a Post-Gulag galaxy where the Galactic Federation Triumvirate was a thing of the past and a new Core-based Republic established the GR-Series needed to re-brand itself as a reliable transport option. The stripped-down and exposed design choice meant to play off of nostalgia for a lost age was dropped for a new sleek and finished design.
By the onset of the Second Great Hyperspace War, the new GR-95 was taking center stage for Gallofree. Larger than its "medium" sized cousins but not quite large enough to be considered a true bulk freighter, the GR-95 was dubbed a "Fleet Transport". Extensive cargo space and spartan barrack-like living quarters along with the robust shielding and armor made the GR-95 an amazing war-time transport. The transports could carry up to 200 passengers with a full cargo haul. External fire impression systems and hardpoints for external fuel tanks meant the GR-95 could also serve as a fleet tender or fire rescue boat making them popular with rescue organizations as well. A powerful engine block and sparsely armed with automated point-defense laser cannons deterred many pirates, though a true ambush spelled death for the vessels.
They were integrated into the Galactic Alliance fleet en masse as troop transports between controlled space and as fleet support ships ferrying supplies to and from various theatres of war. Fleets of the transports flew in relief supplies to the Chiss Ascendancy and flew many daring missions to bring relief and supplies to Maw-Controlled worlds in daring blockade runs. The sight of a GR-95 flying the red stripe of the Galactic Alliance's Crimson Lance would become a symbol. It said: "Give me your tired, your hungry, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. The Starbird of the Core hears you and delivers you from this hell."
