Gray Force-Users & Force Progression

This is really just for future reference but while I'm up with nothing better to do I figured I would go ahead and ask.

So I've looked around a bit, albeit not very hard, and I cannot seem to find a thread that details how Force Training and Progression works. Do you have to train under a Force-User of a higher caliber to progress or are their ways or are their ways for Force-Users of a lower level to learn new abilities and progress one their on or working with another of equal standing?

Also, are their currently any Gray Force-User factions out their that aren't a Sub-Faction to someone else? If all goes as planned Mangus' second Story Arc will have him searching for a way to increase his potency with the Force, even if it takes a while, and I would love for a Faction out there to help do so.

Sorry if I am being a newb about all this, but It's always better to ask for help than walk around in the dark I've found.

You don't have to, you can. some masters have not done training as the master or under a master. Just doing things out in the galaxy. Have fun with it and if you are not part of a major faction or a minor one then an rpj will usually notice and promote you.

Thanks for the quick reply lol, but what about learning new Force skills and abilities? Do you just RP learning them as well over time?

When gets the RULES page back up and running, I'll point you to the promotion information.

The most encouraging way to get a FU to Master is to: Join a Faction - Get a Mentor - Thread together - Have your Mentor promote you. Easy as pie. Even for independents.

Technically, no "Training" is required for your abilities either. When you're a Padawan, you can do anything a Padawan can do. When you're a Knight, you can do anything a Knight can do. When you're a Master, you can do anything a Master can do. Very simple. However, most writers prefer to keep a rhythm of development that both builds their character's personality and story; as well as raising their comfort level about writing new techniques.

In your time on this site you will observe a million different ways to train, learn, present, and record such information. Anything goes. Kinda cool huh?

Enjoy. :D

[member="Mangus Abraxius"] yeah that is how I do it. Just have fun with it. I have a thread with a padawan on my master where he is learning but 70 posts in they are having an adventure. My one apprentice has been traveling for ooc six months now with her master in their thread learning new abilities but having fun with it. You don't have to learn everything but you can and if you ever want to thread I am around.

I see, so skill is relative to rank then. I've always RPed everything out, such as learning skills and progressing in rank, even acquiring new equipment and whatnot, so this all will be a bit different for me. Thank you both for the quick answers!

[member="Mangus Abraxius"] no wrong answer or way. We're here for fun just work to make it fun for everyone and when in doubt dev thread and submit. The judges/rpj's will tell you if you need to.

Or or or and this is also a fun thing to do. pester [member="Jay Scott Clark"] to thread with you because he is fun and makes it interesting.

Well every thread I do is Dev in some way, if only small character stuff at times. Like I said in an earlier post I try to avoid the random YOLO threads people just start when they are bored. I like to form stories when I RP, even if they are bad at times xD.

As far as submitting a thread to a judge, once you finish an intense Char Dev thread you just PM a judge and tell them to check it out?

[member="Mangus Abraxius"] Roleplaying Judges can promote a character yeah. You PM them and they'll tell you what they are looking for. Usually it's a good mix of threads, development, english language skills, activity, and positive character from the writer. S'all good. :D

Cool, thanks again. I think that is all the question I have about this at the moment anyway lol. It sounds like a good system at least, I can actually do my own thing without having to kiss the butt of any High-Ranking faction member to progress later on xD.

[member="Mangus Abraxius"] Exactly. Work at your own pace and do your own thing. When you want Knight Rank? Hit up your Mentor, or an RPJ if you ain't grouped by then. Very mellow. Very easy. You'll get the hang of it. :D

[member="Sheila"] You're such a bad girl. Nom nom nom. :p

Have only done 1 training thread ever (newly updated bio does not list threads prior to bringing back the character, I still have a thread tracker in the One Sith faction for that sort of referencing), and I can assure you that you probably don't even need to do that. Just be active in doing things that show your responsibility as a writer, ability to perform, and character progression. Invasions come to mind (if you're in a faction), as do all public threads and private threads. I suggest being aggressive in grabbing people's attention, as you need to take advantage of being relatively unknown - this isn't like middle (or to a lesser extent High school) where people ignore the new people, you will be looked at closely by people who wonder if they want to thread with you, which means the better you are and the more you show off as quickly as possible the faster word travels by way of mouth. Er, fingers?

There's no real formula to getting a promotion, but if you're willing to spend time with a writing partner, and that partner happens to be your master/teacher/mentor, then that is by far one of the fastest ways to advance.

Just be reasonable about it bro, don't go slinging around force lightning as a rookie or ripping moons a part as a knight etc. No one is going to bash you in the head to much, you might get an angry pm telling you your being a bit over zealous but other then that no one here bites, except for maybe Tefka and Sarge.

Dunno if this helps you, but if you pick a specific type of Force Power you wanna develop and use to branch out into more complicated versions of it, that's kind of fun... Like focusing on Lightning and developing through Chain Lightning or something, and then learning Force Storm later...
