Hello and welcome!
To start writing, I'd recommenced you write your first character in the character creation forum. From there, decide which faction you want to join. Their is the Sith Empire, the First Order, The Republic Remnant, The Outer Rim Coalition, The Confederacy of Independent Systems and countless others to join, just click on the factions tab at the top of the page to see which faction you're most interested in. From there, well just start rping! I'd suggest joining your faction's Discord to find rp's to get into with your fellow writers.
If you want to start rping with someone, I'd be happy to rp with you! You can send me a PM on here or on Discord if you're interested.

I'd start by browsing our Top Banner to get a look at the Rules, Timeline, Galaxy Map, and Factions Directory. From there why not explore the forums a bit. Get a feel for the stories in the Public RP. Take a look at who's available in the LFG. That sort of thing.
Otherwise? Please verily enjoy your stay. Oh! And ask questions. Lots, of questions.

So many questions. I’m glad everyone seems to be nice so far thanks for that. I’m mostly interested in joining a faction and am wondering how that kinda works. Also on a side note are there any rules or limits on how long it takes to kinda hop around the galaxy?

Seems very fast paced. I’m glad there are so many possibilities and options. Do the major factions change s lot on this site?

We have two kinds of factions here - major factions and minor factions.
Major factions get to play the map game, have bigger resources, and have a bunch of perks and tech access that individuals/minor factions don't.
While these factions do change, the changes in which faction comes to be and which is making its way out, it a relatively slow process most of the time. With how things are now though, I wouldn't worry about any of the current major factions disappearing soon
