Most people find character art on the internet. Anything is fair game as long as it's appropriate. I also suggest that you check out the getting started tutorial for any other general questions you may have. And, if you still have lingering questions, I'd recommend leaving them in RP discussion. There are plenty of folks more than willing to assist.
