- Sensor dampening
- Sensor dampening: The shape of the Grey Ghost provides a degree of stealth to the craft in regards to the Full Spectrum Transceivers, radars, and most common military-grade Targeting Sensors of enemy starships. The angular construction of the hull prevents long ranged detection by these sensors from the front and sides of the fighter. However from the top, rear, and underside of the craft, and at close range (from any angle) the ship can be just as easily detected as the common X-wing. This does not impede visual detection or detection by force based abilities, or by specialized anti-stealth sensors even at long range.
- Dedicated energy receptors: DER sensors can detect this craft within a certain range if the general bearing and location of the fighter are known.
- Semi-stealth maneuverability: When attempting to avoid detection the Grey Ghost’s maneuverability is highly limited, otherwise it risks exposing its top or underside on a banking turn.
- Hull shape: Any damage, no matter how small, to the hull of the ship will disrupt the specially designed shape and nullify its sensor dampening ability. This is especially a risk to the fighter as even a small amount of glancing flak can do enough superficial damage to achieve this effect. The opening of the internal weapons bay will also temporarily render the sensor dampening ineffective.
- No armour: If the already weak shields of the ship are disabled it will be vulnerable to anything from micrometeorites to small arms fire.
The first starship designed and manufactured fully by Upshot for its subsidiary and clients, the Grey Ghost is an attempt to squeeze enough sensor dampening tech into a fighter as possible while still remaining economically feasible for at least limited production. The Grey Ghost relies almost completely on its sensor dampening tech to protect itself from both point defense weapons and other starfighters. The hull is coated with dampening material and is shaped so at long range it is difficult to detect from the front, allowing it to close to combat ranges before engaging.
This capability is not to be confused with true stealth. At close range and from multiple angles sensors can see it easily, and the fighter is visible from any angle by the naked eye just as much as an X-Wing or other conventional starfighter.
