Grounding Signup Thread

Introduction
The Contingency must be stopped! Using information gleaned from the battlefield, you have identified the location of the enemy in the Rishi Maze. Ground forces must be landed to strike at important objectives to allow your fleets and strike forces to go further.
Your objectives are simple: Destroy the Contingency forces, capture objectives and then break through their lines. Victory points will be given for those who destroy enemy units, capture and hold objectives and move off the map on the Contingency side.

Notes
Whilst this battle will be mostly fighting against NPCs, it’s certainly possible to attack other factions. Be prepared for that possibility, especially if you’re holding objectives.

There are virtually no rules about how one controls their army or takes casualties. That is down to the writer. The GMs reserve the right to ask for edits in clearly absurd situations such as walkers crossing the map in one bound, or a unit taking no damage to a heavy bombardment.

Due to the larger scale of this thread, the emphasis is on strategy and command, though personal actions can have an impact.

Selection Rules
Any writer can signup for the thread. The only conditions are that you:
  • Cannot use more than one character in the thread.
  • The character cannot be used in any other of the four main event threads. They are all happening simultaneously in the story, so your character cannot be in more than one place.

You can command a faction, company or individual’s forces.

Each writer may choose a number of NPC Unit Slots equal to the below amount, limited by their availability.

Group NPC Unit Slots Per Writer
Major Faction 10
Minor Faction 5
Individual 1
Company (As Tier + 1)

This is modified by the following. Rare availability units use up more of your slots as they are more powerful.

Availability Cost
Common 1
Uncommon 2
Rare 3
Unique 4

Therefore a major faction could bring 3 rare units and a common, or 4 uncommon and 1 common or any other combination.
Each writer will always be able to have one unit.

If you wish to use Factory submissions which do not have an NPC submission, the rarest production level of the unit applies.

The Factory production levels relate as follows:

Factory NPC
Mass Common
Minor Uncommon
Limited Rare
Semi-Unique Unique
Unique Unique (Only one can be taken total)

For instance, if you wish to include a force of limited production tanks, they would count as rare – 3 slots.

Thread Rules

There are no rules concerning how damage is taken, that is up to the writer. Common sense and fairness at all times will be rewarded and appreciated.

Movement speed likewise has no specific rules. Bear in mind that lighter units are faster than heavy and repulsor vehicles travel much faster than tracked or wheeled vehicles. A quickly moving unit is more likely to avoid enemy fire but is equally unlikely to hit anything whilst moving.

Each hex is equal to about 100m. Gauge ranges and speeds based on this and the factory submissions you have.

Some general suggestions regarding damage and movement:
  • Infantry in cover are hard to evict without artillery, massed infantry or specialised vehicles.
  • Vehicles find it hard to move through non-open terrain unless it can crush its way through.
  • Air units are strong bombing and strafing unless the enemy had anti-air defences or vehicles.
  • Vehicle armour is almost always weaker on the sides, rear and top.

Signup

Please use the following form to signup:

Character Name: (Which character is going to participate?)
Representing: (Which faction or company is the character with? For individuals put ‘Self’.)
Army: (What are you bringing? This can be filled in later, but must be complete before you post in the event thread. Your unit list should include hyperlinks to the NPC or Factory sub and the cost.)

As I mentioned in the chat, I think it touches on everything it needs to touch and explains things well. It's probably going to turn people off though because of its size. Just not sure how to make this actually... smaller without losing necessary info.

People will just need to deal with it I'm afraid. There needs to be a discussion of the rules before the thread starts, and I don't want two threads.

I could spoiler each section though. Thoughts?
