Description: The GT-42 Geothermal Energy Unit produces power using a small binary cycle to power the miniature turbine located inside the unit. Binary cycling uses a production well and injection well dug into the earth much like a well. These wells contain pipes full of a liquid such as isobutane. As hot water is passed through the heat exchanger, the lower boiling point of isobutane causes the water to be turned into steam that powers the miniature turbine. To use the GT-42 Geothermal Energy Unit, the user must have available groundwater at their location and a constant and stable ground temperature in order for the system to work properly. The underground portion of the system can be installed by any standard water well driller/borer.
The unit is designed for residential and small agriculture use. Depending on conditions, the GT-42 Geothermal Energy Unit can fully power a home under 1800 square feet and an outbuilding or two (depends on size). For high energy uses such as a heated greenhouse or a mill, Salacia Consolidated recommends a separate, dedicated unit be installed for those uses.
