DESCRIPTION

On a world like Coruscant, maintaining Law and Order becomes something of a logistical impossibility. There were over a Trillion souls that called the Queen of the Core home, and they were spread across roughly Five-thousand levels. As one can imagine, utilizing organic officers to maintain the peace and enforce the law was incredibly difficult. That wasn’t even factoring in the difficulties those officers would face, rather the numerical situation they found themselves operating in. There simply would never be enough flesh-and-blood officers to maintain a semblance of order within the lower levels. ​

When Otto Shule took office as the Senator of Coruscant, the Replica Droid recognized the disparity between those who upheld the law and those that sought to break it. Without hesitation, the former Director of the Republic Engineering Corporation sought out his replacement and offered them a deal of a lifetime. Through the creation of a new breed of artificial police droids, the fight against crime could be waged anew. There was no way that the Galactic City Authority could deny the offer that was laid at their feet, especially if it helped boost their administrative approval ratings in the eyes of the public.​

Thus, the design teams within the Corporation set themselves to the task to create the epitome of artificial intelligence but fundamentally bound to the realm of law enforcement. It would be a difficult task, but one that would doubtlessly be rewarding in the end. While many organics were hesitant to deal with artificial lifeforms, due to their tumultuous past, the design team would seek to make this new security droid as approachable as possible, while still retaining the hallmark features that ascribed them to their purpose. To that end, the Coruscanti-based megacorp turned to Arakyd Industries for assistance.​

Utilizing the humanoid appearance of the ancient KX-series droid, with considerable aesthetic upgrades, the REC/SOD-01 "Guardian" - Series Security Droid was born. Unlike their spiritual predecessor, the Guardian Droids would be visually striking in their appearance, as their form was coated in the heraldry of the Coruscant Security Force. It would be extremely difficult to mistake these droids as anything other than police droids, especially once their unit markings and insignia were laser-etched into the brilliant blue armour plates. From there, the Guardians were accented in gleaming silver and the warm tones of flaxen yellow; all to ensure that the Droids look the part.​

As the artificial intelligence was crafted, the design team ensured to impart only the best-of-the-best when it came to the positronic structure of their synthetic mind. These constructs would house entire criminal databases, and be given a form of limited autonomy in how to achieve their mandates. This connection allowed for squads of synthetic officers to be deployed to the underworld, and act on their own volition - provided their deeds didn’t exceed their parameters; such as harming innocent bystanders. Collateral damage would also be kept at a minimum, as damaging someone’s property without just cause, would incite chaos amongst the population.​

There were several other additions to the Guardian’s toolkit, but all were geared towards the non-lethal pacification of possible suspects - including those that ran for their lives. While beneficial, as the Guardians sought to safeguard sentient life, there was something darker that lurked beneath the surface. Coruscant has undergone many horrible things since it was first founded. With many levels, often built atop one another, darkness engulfs the surface of the planet and seeks to spread their infectious tendrils upwards. Thus, the Guardians were outfitted with a secret set of subroutines that activated when the undesirable and hostile denizens of Coruscant’s underworld revealed themselves.​

These Guardians would violate their primary mandate of doing no-harm to sentient life. They would hunt down and eradicate the monsters that lurked in the depths, utilizing whatever tools they had at their disposal. ​

Law and order would be restored, and peace would be maintained.​
