Strengths & Weaknesses

(+) Strengths: First and foremost, the Sentinel was initially constructed around its Silkworm Hypertransit Package. This navigational setup, bolstered by additional data provided by Isley's own purchase from Baobab Astrography, allows the vessel an unparalleled amount of Hyperspace freedom. Whether it be by traditional Hyperlanes or the "back roads", the Sentinel can be quickly deployed practically anywhere in the known Galaxy. And did I mention that it's a 0.5 rating? It's a 0.5 rating.

On another note, as Arakyd is famed for being a corporation that fills specialized niches with militant excellence, the Sentinel can be classified as a multi-role Destroyer. Its armament permits it to take the fight directly to an enemy, or to supplement a joint-assault with swift shield droppage. Its complement is the definition of supplementary: consisting wholly of the company's famed Aquila starfighters. As a whole, the scope of the vessel is such that it can be easily plugged into any combat niche effectively.

Lastly, Arakyd's flagship product, Nightshadow, affords the Sentinel some degree of stealth capability. While there are numerous ways to track it at closer distances (i.e. engine emissions, etc.) some scanners will have greater difficulty detecting the vessel at range. Of course, Nightshadow is no dedicated cloaking device and only does so much...especially for a capital ship.

(-) Weaknesses: To begin, the numerous, advanced systems in place aboard the Sentinel have resulted in a significant demand for power. Most notably, the combination of a Silkworm Hypertransit Package and a Hellbore Cannon aboard the same vessel have resulted in almost ludicrous energy consumption. While this has resulted in the installation of secondary power generation systems aboard the Sentinel, power drain will always be a perpetual concern with this ship.

In addition, the Sentinel is painfully slow in terms of sublight speed and overall maneuverability. This is a direct result of the additional weight attributed to a.) literally building the ship around its Hypertransit Package b.) the reinforced nature of the hull plating and c.) additional reduction in speed due to firing the main Hellbore Cannon.

Lastly, the Sentinel is a one-of-a-kind amalgamation of several companies' masterpieces. As such, simply erecting the vessel was of tremendous expense to Arakyd Industries. In the event that pronounced damage is dealt to the Sentinel, it would require the expertise of literally three upper tier companies (ICE/ARIN/Silk) to make adequate repairs. Needless to say, that alone would be yet another enormous expense to the corporation. All in all, the Sentinel is one of the most expensive investments Arakyd has ever made...and let's not even get started on maintenance fees.

Description

In the wake of his former spouse's disappearance, a rather unfortunate void plagued the rising Arakyd Industries. Under her leadership did the ancient corporation manage to rise in the modern era; and as such, her departure had dealt the entity a crippling blow. Perhaps it was desperation. Perhaps it was quick thinking. But shortly thereafter, an offer was made to the one who knew Phoebe Draclau the most: her estranged husband. It was then that Isley Verd took the reigns of the corporation and steered it in an entirely new direction.

Under the Draclau regime, Arakyd had focused on being a supplementary corporation. Their products revolved around smaller starships and complementing the other vessels created by the corporation's allies. However, Isley boldly shoved Arakyd out of its comfort zone: demanding the creation of capital ships and engines of planetary defense. What's more, his leadership saw that the corporation became more than simply a means of assisting a militant force with product. Time after time did he erect corporate resources to directly push the agendas of those who supported Arakyd. At times, this meant simply sending out mining equipment and other benign vessels to work sites.

At others, Arakyd deployed literal military might.

As time moved ever forward, Isley began to desire a much more formal approach to the "direct assist" trend he had started. Instead of pulling assets together in response to each threat or call for aid, he would have it that a standing fleet be ready at all times. Through this, direct displays of force would be much easier to achieve...and more importantly, a touch less costly. Thus did Arakyd begin the first steps towards what would come to be known as the "Sentinel Project." This undertaking sought to commence the birth of the fleet with its most vital component: its "flagship."

Components were purchased from the finest distributors known to the Galaxy. No expense was spared. And above all else, the Project was a closely-guarded corporate secret. It was not until the completion of the Light Star Destroyer that the existence of the vessel became somewhat known to the supporters of the company. Aptly-named the Sentinel, the beating heart of the Arakyd Fleet now awaits its maiden deployment alongside the forces of her allies.
